Playing with latest beta build. I was finally the recipiant of a nice ranger ship this game. Guess those luck points are working for me now. Unfortunatly, it gave me a ranger ship that looks exactly like the base colony ship and has only 2 movement points when most of my ships have 4-6. Surely this is not the normal behavior for this event? I was hoping for some advanced engines to go with those adavanced weapons and a nice intimidating look too. Any comments?

Playing latest beta build and noticed that the Talxerxians, my custom race I've been playing against, have started building escorts without weapons. They are parked out in space, perhaps as some sort of diversion; however it appears to me to be a bug. Also, when attacking said ships I flew a fleet over and destroyed their fleet. Then I broke my fleet down and attacked ship to ship for the unarmed and unfleeted escorts. Ater attacking a few times, I noticed that all 3 of my ships no l
I just don't think anyone is going to get their hopes up right away on that. That is a lot of coding changes and addtitions. Thats said, please , please can we have this feature?
I was playing latest beta release [1.7a3]. One of my ships was destroyed in enemy territory. Many game months later, there is still a revealed circle of space where it was destroyed. Will email in saved game and debug.err.
Thanks for the pointer. Somehow I missed that. Maybe I shouldn't play until 5AM before reading the forums?
Since the release of DA, I have not had as much time to play as usual. There have also been alot of updates released. I find that my space battles do not behave quite as I expect, which is a good thing. I have searched the forums, but not found what I am after. Can anyone link me to, or specify exactly what changes were made for battles in DA? A few points for clarification: -What are the chances of scoring no hit? -How is it determined how much damage will be done?<br/
I am wondering if anyone has had good success with only population growth, economy, and moral bonuses? In most strategy games I like to have options. I typically find the absolute fastest way to build a massive economy and then do whatever I want with all that infrastructure. I've been developing a number of new strategies for DA, and am wondering how others have failed with the above setup.
Well, since I'm mentioning these, there are two other items that just sting when I go to use them and they aren't there. -Greater color picker functionality for race creation. It should be able to copy colors from one slot to the next, and change the data on the color picker to match the color you just selected on left. That way you can click it and them make small changes to perfect things a bit. Please! -Text carat above text and the ability to mouse click into the
I really love this game. Thank you once again for all your hard work and great support! I have already pre ordered the new expansion. Out of all the companies I've ever dealt with, Stardock has got to be the most impressive game development company. And you guys make great software too! Keep up the great work! I know we've all said this before, but I just felt like saying it again.
My sub points are always more interesting than my main ones. With that in mind, the sub point is on topic. While I realize that I can hover my mouse to see my current rate of income or deficit, it would be really nice if that information could be obtained at a glace whenever I feel it needed. I have tried to just forget about it and hover. However, since I started playing the game (which I enjoy immensely) I have always expected the data to be right there.
I find that when I am running in the red, and that is often on game start, I have to check my finance screen each turn to be sure my income didn't take a nosedive deeper into the red. I would just love it if the HUD showed me how much I'm making (or loosing) per week. It would also be grand, though to a lesser extent, to have a reading of how much my population is growing per week as well. Any chance this feature is on its way and I just missed it? Does anyone else need this too? <br
@Alfonse: I think he was just referring to Windows in general as opposed to other operating systems. There is no doubt in most geek's minds that Windows does not handle memory clean up as well as the competition.
My game is running a good 200MB under the previous amounts. Great improvement. In fact, I havn't had a chacnce to play long enough to get it over the 2GB mark again. Of course, that doesn't tell me if it is still going to crash or not. Thanks for the great support! Cari - you da woman!
I also have this problem. Mine does not reset the volume to saved levels after running a turn though. I have also noticed that when clicking somewhere on the slider to adjust the volume that the level adjusted to is quite a distance down the slider from my mouse curser. I can drag the indicator up and down, but the slider indicator is not under my cursor.
While in your case this may not be the case, others could find that the sound problem they are having is due to a bad ground in their computer case. You may want to check that your power supply is rated for the amount of current you are pulling on the +12V rail. Most models on the cheaper end of the scale don't quite make it, and your PCI(E) or fans might be underpowered. Voltage issues can generate tonal vibrations.
I concur. Mcafee is the devil. Get Norton if you want paid AV, or go with one of the suggestions here. When you run it in windowed mode at the same res as your desktop it looks like it is full screen, but you can stil alt-tab. You can do this by adding a space and a 'w' (without quotes) to the end of the path (outside of any quotes that might be there).
I actually have seen some where the good option gave you a benefit, and the evil option gave you penalties. Two to be exact, though I can' t recall the exact details of the event. I just remember going, "Wow! An event with good stuff for good!"
Just ran a test with the latest test exe. Hope this information is helpful. I opened the same save game file (restored file from other location before each load) with latest official release and text exe. I then ran the game (gigantic map, all races, mid game) for 5 turns. I have duel screen setup with the game running windowed. I have task manager running on second screen at the same time. After loading, both games took within 20MB of each other in memory. I noticed
Hmm... That is where I get confused. If it is simply contiguous memory blocks that are unavailable, wouldn't the game be showing less than the maximum memory at time of error? I guess if the largest block of memory you are trying to lock is pretty small then it wouldn't cause an error until it is very close to the limit, thus producing what I am seeing. Do you know how large that would be during a save?
I have written my fair share of small apps. Being small, they rarely have any issues with memory fragmentation, though memory usage and leakage does (of course) come up. In my humble thought process, it seems to me that if memory fragmentation was at fault, my system memory usage would not be reporting near the limit when the crash occurs, but well under it. This would be because the problem is lack of contiguous blocks of memory within the lower 2GB hard limit area, not due to it actually be
You may also want to check those spending sliders folks have mentioned every few turns or so. As you build more buildings on yoru worlds, the balance there changes. As your overall population grows, you will need to adjust higher tax rates for more money, or lower for more moral. You get a nice boost to poplulation growth as you raise your moral above 75% on up to 100%. Really big bonuses at 100%.
I'm actually writing one in c# right now just for my use. I wasn't going to really flesh it out, but maybe I'll post it here when its done too.

A freind made these for me when I asked for some new race images. Feel free to use these in your games, they should be the right format.
