So, I'm one of them folks that keeps reminding Devteams that it would be really neat to have a Linux port for your games. Normal response is "Go away!" but with a much nicer tone (at first, later the sobbing comes), but now finally there is hope for playing GalCiv II on linux via steam [e digicons]:D[/e] Tried it out with the new steam feature, Proton, and must say it was a really good 1:1 translation. I'm running on a low spec machine (NUC with a Pentium 5 and

To take a screenie, just hit Ctrl + Print Screen . The screen shot should be saved to Your user folder under the My Document -folder. Hope that helps. Rygel XVI - Dominar to over 600 billion (more or less) loyal subjects.

I'm currently running a TA-game where I'm about to negotiate with the Altarians at gunpoint, but the trouble is that there ships have more negotiating power then mine. Not a problem if I can take them on one on one, since my one is one fleet. In order to do this I sent Steven McBackstabber - my most trusted saboteur - to block their Orbital Fleet Manager. When I invade however, they still h

Hmm, I see your point. Did You remember to change the bayonets to can openers? [e digicons];)[/e] It does seems odd though, have you checked the technology level at the invasion screen? Tech factors in as well as I'm sure You know. In fact, that's how I normally win my battles [e digicons][/e] Rygel XVI - Dominar to over 600 billion (more or less) loyal subjects.<

Well, I never played that race before. Embarrassing - I know! As far as the unfairness in the early game goes, I don't see that as much of a problem since you cant use soldiering bonuses without enemy contact. In my experience (or maybe its just my play style) it takes quite a while before you make "first contact" with your "new-found friends" and start to "negotiat

Has it been two years already? [e digicons]8C[/e] Still a god game, though! [e digicons][/e] There are two ways that comes to mind but the details is something you have to figure out for yourself, sorry about that. Edit the files directly. The files you need to fiddle with is probably

Thanks for the clarification. Much appreciated. The game does not require the CD in the drive to play, even on the retail version. If you download the game, you never need the CD at all. And that’s why you rock, guys! Rygel XVI - Dominar to over 600 billion (more or less) loyal subjects.

Many thanks for the replies guys! Very useful indeed. Two additional questions came up though, I hope someone can help. 1. Do I absolutely positively HAVE to use Stardock Central for download? I’m trying to keep the tray as clean as possible. Having a “no autostart “-feature would work as well. 2. I don’t normally make backup copies of my games, I just use no-cd’s instead

I’m thinking of buying DA, so I guess this is really a support question. If so, sorry for posting in the wrong corner of the forum. What I like to know is what type of media will be shipped if I opt for the Download + CD alternative. I get the CD part, but will it be an ordinary blank CD like the type you buy for burning, or will it be a "proper" one? What kind of box and manuals ships with it? I must say that the box for the GalCiv II special edition was the coolest ever! A

Is the bling a part of every patch then, or do I have to install the blingpack every time? Also, I have the ColEd so isn't the bling already in the discs? There are no clear answers to this (that I can find, anyway) so maybe "someone", should enter it into the Wiki. Rygel XVI - Dominar to over 600 billion (more or less) loyal subjects.

I agree 100% with this. I wouldn't recommed a Dell even to an enemy. I would. It probably won't be cheaper, but it's likely to be better value. I agree. You can’t compete with the bulk of the big c

If I were getting a new PC and wanted to have it run Galactic Civ 2 with no problems, I would make sure it had ________________. ... a clean system. Most system could probably run GCII without hang-ups, although not chop-free if you have really old hardware or the settings set too high. In my experience a lot of problems derive from a bug

midlifecrisis: It can’t be the sensor range since I don’t have any. You are probably right about the sector though. That *does* clear a thing or two up. Is it the same thing on trade routs (only the routs in the same sector get taxed)? Rygel XVI - Dominar to over 600 billion (more or less) loyal subjects.

I noticed the starbase pertimeter issue in v1.1. I have not yet seen it in my first Metaverse game running v1.11. That’s odd, for me it’s the other way around. As long as the planet or trade rout touched the border you were ok pre 1.11. Rygel XVI - Dominar to over 600 billion (more or less) loyal subjects.

Is anyone on stardock supposed to confirm this? Rygel XVI - Dominar to over 600 billion (more or less) loyal subjects.

I have found two things that seem to be wrong in 1.11. There are probably other minor things as well, but this is what I found, Sorry if already reported. I did search for it (honestly, guv!) but didn’t find anything. Thingy 1, starbases: Look at this screenie: As you can see, all three planets are clearly within the "field of influence" of the starbase. Earth and Mars both get the starbase benefit

Ok, so how do I upgrade every ship of that class then? I often have everything in fleets and without any movements left I can’t even break up the fleet. Rygel XVI - Dominar to over 600 billion (more or less) loyal subjects.

Thought: Not much of a problem for me as it is. It would probably take me more time to fiddle with the checkboxes then to remove the components by hand. Here is a tip: You can use the delete-key to remove a component once it’s highlighted. Something I would find useful however would be to see what component it is I just pressed. Like the name and stats in lower left corner when You are about to place a component on the ship. I find it somewhat hard to determine what compon

Good point, crowprince. It’s just that I feel cheated somehow. Kind of like when you are letting a mighty battlecry out to strike fear into the black harts of the enemy, only to discover that your coward of generals just let some helium rip. I’m also a bit worried that this quasitech will be “given” multiple times. Pre 1.1, wasn’t you given those techs anyway? Never happened to me, but a friend told me about it. Works for me in 1.1, if that’s any help. This option is disabled by default in the options screen, however. Just press ESC and check the appropriate box (second tab from the left, as I recall it). Rygel XVI - Dominar to over 600 billion (more or less) loyal subjects.
