Yes, try coming up with a completely new idea yourself. It's hard to not be influenced by things like Star Wars and Star Trek. So why not just make mods in thsoe universes instead of making your own? i'd rather they spent their time modding and less time thinking up an original universe.

respawning anomalies would be nice.
you can trade tech too, i just find it annoying cause they always try to rip me off.
Online would be horrible. I'd be very surprised if anyoen managed to get through 10 turns in a 8 player map 10 player map Hot seat (real hot seat, not the complicated cheating thingy) would be a great addition though. But the games still GRRREAT!
i hope we'll be able to change the specialiation. And make sure you NEVER build any capitols on special tiles because you won't get the tile bonus. It sucks to waste a 700% prod. tile on a undestroyable capitol (i suppose you could give it to the ai, then tidal something it).
Try turning off any antivirusses, firewalls, etc. They can interfere with your game. You could also try turning off and background programs that you don't need (itunes, quicktime, etc.)
make them happy with you. Give/ trade tech, trade with them, give them things, etc.
I don't think it's a bug. It's just a random event. I've played about 4-5 games (all on small-medium about 3 hours apiece) and i've only seen rangers once (the ai got it). I always have the lucky attribute. Mind that i'm still on my first game in 1.1B so (about 1 hour into it) ...
there are really only 3 or 4 ai levels, depending on how many human strategies they know and wil counter (at least that's what the manual says) Everythign else is based on how their economy is modified (i believe normal is like 75% of the economy they would have normally).
i think there's a box around the resources. unmined resources are diamonds and mined resources have a box around them, the box being the color of the civilization who's mining it.
try setting it to a easier difficulty. Beginner is a nice challenge for a first gmae (i assume it's you first game), just keep turning down (or up) the difficulty until you like it

try going to the Galciv 2 irc channel (the address is on one of the stickies). someone may be able to help you there. Or try emailing stardock support (sorry i forgot the address, look around). i've never encountered teh problem though.
i had that ocne where for no reason my approval dropped to 1% (but i didn't lose any territories) . i ignored it and after about 10 turns or so it went back to normal. i did buy a few morale boosting improvements though.
Good idea! You can't beat AC (as long as the game doesnt CTD)! perhaps if your morale/approval/whatever thingy gets too low your vassal states would revolt?
eh... i have the same problem (especially late game saves). just go browse the forum or something while you wait.
actually, you can use some drivers that are older than 2004. I;m using an Radeon Igp 340m (or something like that) it's one of those onboard "mobile" video cards that steals memory from your RAM. i'm using a driver from May, 2004 and my game runs perfectly fine. But you should check your manufacturer's website for the driver for yoru card. If you can't find it, go to the COMPUTER's manufacturer's website (hp, ibm etc.) and get the latest update for you
i don't think there is a lock icon for the the tax rate, only for the spend rate ( research, military, social, etc.)
i haven't been able to get people to ally me (I'm greedy, i like my tech and bc), but going through the manual, it mentioned something about the foregin stats window (the one with the spying) Under the spy cost bar thing there sould be a check box that'll let you break and alliance.
Pfft of course they're great. Evil talking squirrels who want to take over the galaxy? ALRIGHT! It reminds me of the evil mice who wanted Arthur Dent's brain in one of the Hitchihiker's Guide to the Galaxy books.
Good idea. If it's a horrible planet, just sell it for tech or bc.
i bought it at circuit city. you could try looking around the stores for one, or ordering it online.
i'm pretty sure i read somewhere in a post by a Stardock employee (Brad maybe?) that there was NO max poly count. You can import ships that are a billion polys if you want (theoretically), it's just a question about whether your computer will blow up or not.
it's all about luck, you can't really tell if it's broken or not until you play hundreds of games or tens of thousands of turns before you can compare 'em.
