Hmm, well this was in the campaign, so the UP hadn't really come into it. Come to think of it, the ai-played races didn't have any freighters either.

Stanislaw Lem, who just died yesterday I concur totally with your unhappy yellow head.
*bump* because I would really like to know.
I second Iain M Banks, particularly: State of the Art, Against a Dark Background, and Feersum Endjinn. Ken MacLeod, the only man to use the word 'grep' in a non-computer context: Stone Canal, Cassini Division anything by Stanislaw Lem. Philip k Dick, and Ray Bradburys martian chronicles (which probably goes without saying). Jonathan Lethem: Gun with Occasional Music. Greg Bear: Forge of God, Anvil of Stars etc etc
I have had a few games where, torwards the end, I start getting a huge morale dent from the number of people on my homeworld. Then I figured out a strategy for it, that I am not very proud of. I started making ships that were nothing but a cargo hull and a bunch of colony modules. They built fast and cheap, and could take quite a few people (I had researched almost all my mini techs by then). So I set my homeplanet (and one of my overpopulated manufact
So I was replaying the campaign, and I noticed that my allies (particularly the altarians) kept putting economy starbases smack dab next to my planets, even though they didn't have nearby colonies. This kind of ticked me off at first but, as they weren't influence bases my influence didn't take a hit, and then I noticed that the computer was loading them up with the +production/social/research modules. I couldn't tell because I didn't notice the modul

You know what else bugs me? When I can't find the droids I'm looking for!
It makes me wonder if we are simply contributing in the effort for EA to format their cheat guide Personally, I was really hoping we would make a better class of cheat guide.
So, just out of curiosity, what would you do in the situation where a developer updates teh EULA in a successive patch? Alot of them have started doing so, not just MMORPGs (which are an extreme case of that). Obviously one couldn't hold whatever retailer you got it from responsible, as the objectionable material was not in the package that they sold to you, but you would be extremely hard pressed to recover your investment from the developers. Even if
Every-so-often an invasion will result in a trillion people suddenly appearing on the newly conquered world. Wonder how much *that* trade route would be worth.
I downloaded this game and tried it, then turned around and bought it. This was before I heard about the whole Starfarce fiasco (via Penny Arcade), I doubt I am the only one either. when people talk about piracy they rarely take into account how often the game purchaser gets swindled by developers. I don't think I can count how often I have bought a game that turns out to have been totally misrepresented by its ads and packaging, not to eve
So... *ahem* does anyone have an opinion on this forum software? Preferably one that wouldn't involve breaking any vulgar content guidelines if expressed.
I think the percentile based research bonuses are all a little screwy currently. For example, from what I understand the race/government research bonuses only do half of what they say etc etc.
Maybe they gained influence because everyone else looked like they were trying too hard. Sort of the "Fonzie" method of empire building in action.
Not to mention that I dont recall there being any PQ4 planets in the campaign?? Kwilas IV, in the 'achilles heel' mission
My main method for stopping (or rather slowing down) the colony rush was to give colony modules a negative range. I like this idea! But do you put a range modifier on the troop/adv troop module as well, since if you upgrade a transport to a colony ship those troops change to colonists, or do you leave it as is?
Well, if you make a point of expanding torwards the AI(s) initially, thus limiting their expansion from the get-go, you can wipe them up in less than a year if you have good production centers and have researched your engine techs. So given three years of initial expansion and consolodation, and a year or two for each opponent, you would be looking at 6 or 7 years depending on your style of play. Of course this is affected greatly by your starting po
firstly, I *thought* I posted this aleady, but it never appeared on the post list. If it does so now, I apologize for the messy forum etiquette. I have seen quite a few posts in which players are complaining about the colonial rush that characterizes the first part of many games. So I am putting up this thread for people to post their various workarounds and strategies (either in game options/sandbox game setup or in-ganme strategy). My original reasons for this particular setup was to try and emulate a more realistic space expansion. The incredibly vast distances involved, and the incred
Does anyone know if the number of trade good achievements (i.e. xinthium hull plating, frictionless clothing, etc etc) that you have affects your freighter income?
From what I have seen, minor races will not flip from influence. I am assuming that this is due to the fact that the computer tends to 'cheat' the minor races stats. I see alot of minor race planets that should be running so far in the red on their economies from the sheer number of factories on their home planets, but which still manage to pump out ships in one turn etc etc, and they always seem to have near (if not 100%) approval/morale. Which might
You can't magically create $200 extra dollars to buy three nice things, no matter how much fun free money would be. Free money, eh? That reminds me of eighties style Reaganomics.... maybe a 'stockmarket crash' type random event could be added to make it a gamble to run your empire with the industrial slide
Erhm.. Did I just see about 2500 military, and 9000 tech and social points?.... Is it just me or is that really really high? benefits of a nut and tuber based society, I would suspect.
They can't actually colonise planets, so I dont think that's the idea. Perhaps they can by conquest. this is true. it is, however, perfectly possible to give them planets of your own! On a whim I have given minor races all the planets of a defeated imperial foe. They still can't colonise, but th
