If I trade techs and receive other civs unique techs, can I use them and get all of their bonuses (inklusive new planetary improvements) although they don´t exists in my tech tree ? Also, what does the * sign mean before the technology in the negotiation sceen ? Thanks for any help
Well, I´ve now bought the two expansions. I also read that is mandatory if you want to get hold of GalCiv 2 patch 2.0 which will arrive in a few weeks (Beta).
Have anyone actually seen the AI use a ship name you have invented ? I have never seen it. I would be extremely nice to see the AI use those againt the player....
Excellent. Then I can look forward to new competition in the expansions. I am about the order the 2 expansions very soon.
Is the A.I. any better in the 2nd Expansion than in the 1st or even compared to the original GalCiv2 ? Have the A.I routines been tweaked or have we got all updates with the patch 1.5 for stock GalCiv 2 ?
I´ve read somewhere that the AI can reuse the players ship design but I have never, ever seen that happen. Does anyone know if it works ? I am talking about the original GalCiv 2 here....

I read somewhere that (patch 1.5 of the original GalCiv II) the AI could use your own ship designs in scenarios, but I have never seen the AI used one of mine and I have at least over 30 ship design and have played the whole campaign and also scenarios with them. When - or how - are the AI going to use them ? Thanks for any replies!
My policy is to never play against a cheating computer regardless of game. Why should I ? I don´t buy games which don´t have extraordinary AI. GalCiv2 is famous for its good AI but I am not sure yet how clever it is. I still see problems of not grouping ships into fleets and escort troop ships but that can be explained by lack of technology, logistics and sensor range so it takes time to determine. I just wanted to make sure that "Tough" is the level where the AI uses its most advanced
I am playing the first version of Galactic Civilizations II. Is it correct that the highest AI setting is "TOUGH" where the human and the CPU have exactly the same conditions and where the CPU uses the most advanced AI settings ? According to the manual that is so. I only want to play against a CPU with the same conditions and with the most advanced AI routines. Thanks for any answer regarding this
I have the original Galactic Civilizations 2 bought in march 2006. Bundled. It was version 1.0. I have now updated and installed version 1.5. I received a new PDF manual for the GC2 Gold Edition + Dark Avatar. Is that manual adapted to patch 1.5 or is it even a newer version ? Because the sceenshots are not even identical. As far as I know my original manual is totally outdated with all changes that have come from version 1.0 to 1.5.
Thanks! I have installed that now but it seems my account has expired though I am still logged on to this site. Not even the new serialnumer could be updated. Get an error. Perhaps I have to contact support in someway.
I am sorry to say but I bought this game in march 2006 and now I have installed it again and need to download all patches. I have a registered account and have received a speciel serial number , but where can I get hold of the patches ?
I hate it to play against a cheating AI. I never play on difficulty levels where I know the AI will be cheating. And actually I avoid games at all if I know the AI is so badly implemented that the AI has to cheat even on normal levels. For me it is extremely important to have an AI which play by the same rules. I would waste my time playing against a cheating AI and what does it prove ? For me it was the info about the good AI in GalCiv2 which mad
It doesn´t seem you are building any economical improvements on the planets ? I did also get financial troubles after a while in the games, especially when playing on higher AI levels. Now my priority is always first factory and the it is economical improvements. Otherwise you will soone be bogged down with maintenance for factories, research centers, entertainments and all of your ships so build stock markets and such things. Add economical starbases
Does anyone know how the endscore is calculated. Do I get a bonus the earlier I finish the game like in Civ4 ? I hope that, otherwise I could just prolong a game I could win easily. Sorry! I know see others have the same question as I. It would be nice to hear from Stardock if they are going to recalculate the score based on game length.
This was GREAT NEWS! Keep up the good work. Stardock should have all the credits for listening to its customers and taken account several suggestions in the upcoming patch that have been described by users.
I know Stardock has said here on the forum that it will take awhile until the next patch will get out and I understand that. What I would like to know though is what kind of improvements, AI fixes and bug fixes we could expect and if possible if the patch will be release within a month or later on.
Does anyone know how the end score you get at the end are calculated ? I mean, do I get a BONUS for winning as early as possible (less turns, like in Civ4 for example) or is the score only based on the strength of the economy, technological advances and destroyed enemy ships ? I hope it is the former or else I would prolong my games and win them later on than know. I have only played two games yet (on sub-normal levels so far) and I win by allying myself with everyone. But I could restrain from
This game is famous - among other things - because of its strong AI. I would be interested to know about your experiences with the AI. Tell me about how the AI fooled you or lured you. Tell me about smart AI moves or other things which indicates the computer plays very well. I am very interested to know about such things. For me - as a single player - the AI is perhaps the most important single factor in a game such as this. I seldom enjoy moment better with a game than truly realize the compute
The headline says it all: If I build an economical startbase and there are also foreign colonies within its range will they alse get the benefits of increases production etc ?
I am using the latest patch and I cant still create rally points that will show up when I press (T) on a ship. Is this a bug or do I do something wrong ?
