Combat: I agree completely. With a capitol ship, you should be able to engage from several sectors away. Anyone remember Alpha Centauri? They had ships that were actual weapons. Let me build a ship with no defense and 100 offense. I could pump out 20 of them and demolish the enemy armada. As for the Tech Tree, I agree, it's too big. I'm working on paring it down now. I'm gonna condense things like Laser I through V into one tech. How
Hi all, I mostly play really short games. With a wife and three kids, I just don't always have tome to play a massive, week-long game. The problem with short games is the huge expanse that is the GC2 Tech Tree. I understand that 30+ turns for Uber Shields mk Vi is great when you play a 1000 turn game. However, most tiny games last, what, 100 turns. So, here is an idea I was kicking around: What if we could sim
About the metaverse: are there different ladders? Is there a Beginner ranking in the MV tree, or does everyone have to play a hardcore game against insane AIs?

Oh, you mention that Ubi forced DRM on you. The proper response would have been to make a few presses of non-DRM CDs. When a customer complains, get their info and mail the disc to them. Maybe put a serial in one of the game files. If the game got into the wild, you'd know who got that disc and where they live.
I prefer neither. Both systems are broken and will not stop hackers. Right now, I can point to at least 5 downloads of GalCiv2 as well as the patches. There are people right now playing GC2, fully patched, without paying. I could also point to downloads of the latest StarForce games. The workarounds people go through to defeat SF are extreme, but hackers love a challenge. Right now, the hacker/developer arms race is
If you look at some of the "tweak" sites, they reccomend setting the minimum and the maximum to the same number. Here's what I have: Two 36gb Raptors in RAID0 -- C Drive -- Very Fast Two WD 120GB drives in RAID0 -- Split between D Drive and E Drive -- D is 10GB with a 5GB min/max pagefile. 1GB Kingston RAM I haven't had any problems with running out of VM. I usually have 600MB of RAM available and have never seen m
My gaming group has been begging for a PbEm game forever. This game would lend itself to that perfectly. I don't see much need for hotseat though.
I understand that SD is nice. I'm not anti-SD or anti-Steam or anything else. I see this as the way I'll buy everything in the future. That being said, developers/publishers need to be aware of the fact that a lot of people don't have broadband yet. Some of us just can't get it in our area. As is stands, I'll have to leave my modem on all weekend just to get this game that I've anticipated since I got hooked on GalCiv1. <b
I was wondering if there is a way to get GC2 via direct download. I have dialup at home and want to grab the files from the local library onto a USB drive. Even if you don't offer the *entire* game for d/l, it'd be nice to offer a 90% complete zip. Then, I could finish my StarDock download from home in a reasonable amount of time.
