Great to hear you plan to do a little update, Brad. Any news on the current situation would be very much appreciated. Cheers!

(Citizen)Weidbrewer January 30, 2007 15:06:22 ...There is nothing on that list that makes me want to get Vista, and it comes across mostly as SD shilling for Microsoft... Your post is spot on - exactly my thoughts about Vista and the opinion of many other people I know. I think MS Vista is the greatest joke in the history of pc o
Trading money without exchanging goods doesn't make any sense in the 1st place. It has nothing at all to do with diplomacy.
Half the PQ? I played a lot with the Super Hive ability lately and even with that (3-4 factories instantly ) it takes a long time get some buildings up in the colonization phase - it's easier in late game tho. What I'd really like to see is half the Pop Cap before you researched the 100% habitable tech.
I'm working on a reference guide to the new battle system based on a lengthy discussion with CodeCritter. I should have it up later today. Great. Looking forward to reading it I didnt have any 'probs' with combat in the other games, including the latest I started. This time I went f
I have no clue... I didn't notice it that much in the other 2 games I played so far with DA - I think it has sth to do with the much smaller universe sizes used leading to shorter games. Atm I'm at war with the Altarians. We both have the same logistics, allowing 4 medium sized ships in one fleet. My current model looks like this: 4 x Plasma (+8 Damage) 4 x Shields 2 (+8 Defense againts Beams) 23 HP (92 combined in a Fleet) Theirs looks l
Just played and enjoyed my first 2 games of DA. While playing and using spies I found it a bit unrealistic that you are able to spy on all (visible) enemy planets and get to know about the planetary improvements in just one turn, requiring only one spy even on the lowest espionage level. My idea of changing it could be combined with the active/passive spy idea posted earlier. After you have selected a certain planet and decided not to install your agent, you have to keep him there a
Thanks for the advice.
I bought DA yesterday and downloaded the Beta. There are a few things not explained in game I'd like to know more about / how they work. E.g. the economic & research treaties, spies, etc... Is there some documentation about the new features somewhere in the installation dir (couldn't find anything) or here on the forums? Or do I have to find it all out the empiristic way cheers, VD
Here's my debug.err Playing around I just noticed another interesting thing. If I hide the context area (minimap + the info screen), the click + drag scroll in the main map works fine Debug Message: Version v1.31 last updated on: Wed Sep 13 18:41:18 2006 Debug Message: GalCiv2 is activated. Debug Message: Checking DX Version. Debug Message: *********DXDiag info follows.********* System Info Time: 9/18/2006, 16:22:50 DirectX Version: DirectX 9.0c
I've been playing Galciv II since it was released. I stopped playing for about 2 months and downloaded the latest update 1.31 now (per SDCentral). I never experienced the problem I have at the moment: If I use the leftclick in map scroll it gets very choppy. I measured the framrate per FRAPS and got 100+ fps using the edge scroll as well as the click + hold minimap scroll. As soon as I click and drag directly in the map it drops down to 7-12 fps. My configuration:
I also have realized that the Stardock programmers are not all that good and need to go back to school. Good manners I must say. As said by sam0t it is called a beta for obvious reasons.
I really enjoyed reading it. Thanks for sharing!
I also think it's a matter of choice. Also... you can't prevent people who want to cheat from cheating just by removing any cheats from a game. Usually a few days after every game's release there are so-called trainer programs around that you run in the background. Most of them work in a way that the cheat function doesn't even have to be implemented in the game...
No problem. Just wanted to remind you that it sounded rather inflamatory
I've been playing Altarian on challenging and the AI seems like its locked in a box. All three empires that are attacking me just deploy mass driver type weapons and I've traded and researched for some killer armor protection. I'm cutting through them with Plasma and Harpoons and they are very slow to come up with a shield defense or ECM. They are ganging up on me because
I don't think this is intentional, since it makes no sense at all. I hope it will be fixed.
I fully agree with post #47,#50 and #51. I also think part of the problem is that some people play this game excessively and exspect to be challenged till infinity. I'd like all people that have a major problem with the AI as it is to give me good examples where it was made better. I just know the most recent competitors and they don't impress me at all. CIV IV is the best amongst those. Do me a favor and download the demo of HOMM V and tell me what you think. Its 'AI' is ri
Considering that the devil is not considered to be omniscient, are you saying that Brad is the devil? Who told you the devil is not omniscient? Your local priest or god himself? Btw this wasn't meant in seriousness. It seems you misunderstood
Only teh devil knows. Some things will happen, some might happen and some won't.
I try it again and set the file on writeprotect... hope that doesnt screw up the game I also did no intensive testing, just one game - near the end of the 2nd year there were still M1 class escorts around. Maybe there really is something wrong with my setup. I think I better do a reinstall. Edit: It is true the layout for the function was implemented in V1.11, but back then it wasn't put t
So, in other words, if you have not turned on intensive CPU, DO SO. Explore over to ..\My Documents\My Games\GalCiv2\prefs.ini and change it! "AllowCPUIntensiveAlgorithms=1"!! Either there's something wrong with my installation (got also 1.2.009b) or it doesn't work yet. I turned it on, but in game it didn't change anything. I went back out an
The changes on the journal page are for 008 I think (1.20.008->1.20.009). This change (rather a quickfix) must be so minor that it's not really worth to find it out before the offical 1.2 release or the next beta
@userfriendly I for one hope that an expansion is an AI focused expansion and not just candy. Eg. Some would like additional races added or more ship components etc... Well Adding another race is just cosmetic. More ship componets etc is a nice to have but doesnt really change much since the combat system is already laid out. -unless another dimension is ALSO added eg
