My mom has a large collection of cookbooks and has spent a long time studying them. Everybody in my family (except her) find her cooking quite amateurish. Agreed, but I didn't say I was skilled at execution, however I would have serious issues if I couldn't retain definitions. For example, I imagine she knows what boili

Well, for what prize would you trade a resource base away? I wouldn't do so for almost any prize to anyone. He offered all his planets!
I said this in another post, but it bears repeating. The GalCiv2 AI works best when it is doing high-level thinking. Who it should attack, perhaps what techs to research, making proxy wars to soften up an opponent, etc. It's pretty good about that sort of thing. It fails when it tries to actually execute some of those actions. It doesn't have a clue how to figh
RTS stands for Real-ime Strategy. It is not, it is Real-Time Tactics. There is little or no strategy in any RTS game I have ever seen, even the choice to invade one country or another first, or one country from one border or another, is borderline. Here is a link that will explain the distinction in terms of games and game design: As I person
I've read lots of comments on this forum as well as reviews saying that this game's AI is much better than other 4X TBS games... since I hardly played any other games in this genre (aside from CnC2 Red Alert), I am curious then, in what ways is the AI better? So for you veterans who had the luxury and experience to compare, do share your observations...
My most recent gigantic game also agrees that this would be a good idea.
I don't have a problem with not being able to block off space, that was clearly a design decision and makes a good bit of sense when you consider the difficulties in guarding a huge, vast, really really big empty space. That said, the computer likes to threaten me when I start massing in their influence area - I'd like the same ability. I want to say to the AI, "Bugger off or we're going to war."
My guess, and I'm sure they'll rush to prove me wrong, but my guess is that EA will be very careful and very hands off with this one. Given the name attached and the clout this title could bring, they'll be smart to let this one run its course and see if it can live up to its potential before meddling around.
Well, the fact of the matter is technology has always been done fundaementally wrong in games. HoI2 and EUII don't do anything different really, they just add a few very small tweaks to the typical system. Part of the problem is that from a design perspective, you want to give the player something to do and give them more control over things. Therefore, you a finite amount of research you can do at a time (either it's like in GC2 or Civ games where you research one tech at a time or
This is actually fairly similar to how technology is looked at in economics. With some work and a little tweaking I could see it being a very interesting twist on the way technology works in a game.
I'm super, duper serial Excelsior!
not trying to be facetious at all but this isnt warhammer 40k, so you shouldnt try to make it some other game. its galciv 2..... but i also do agree, being able to do that would be pretty cool, having ships like that would just be awesome, thanks to some advice from a member of my empire we're actually using tiny hulls with and in my case lots of engines. cheap, fast, and
I have to say it's pretty annoying it works that way. I see some design advantage to it, but I hate not being able to make my Warhammer 40k Type Battle Barges.
I missed hand one, so I can't provide much opinion on that. But I believe you did correct on the other two hands. At the point you went out, average stack was a tad under $30k. You're way too low, and I think pushing with AT was probably the best you could have managed to get at that point. Just so happens another guy had you dominated. All in all, you did put in a great showing. It's going to come down to luck now and then, and it just happened that a guy hit his two outer on yo
Ugh. You played well at least... Better to go out on a bad beat than by playing poorly... if that's any consolation.
Haha, well at least it was the right side of the coinflip to get involved with, he had to improve you didn't - and your improving sealed his fate. That's actually the major thing I need to improve in my game, I need to be involved in more coinflips with the low pocket pair rather than the two over cards I seem to always find myself with.
Nice set of 6's on the flop!
Back to watching now.
Okay gotta run to dinner, and head out for the night probably. Keep up the good work, so I can watch again tomorrow.
Beautiful play against "brob06" though on the hand with the paired Kings on the board. I was sitting there screaming for you to put him all in there. even if you weren't on much of anything.

Oops, I missed that you were posting updates, I've been watching off and on (had it open the whole time). I saw a few plays that as soon as you made them I saw they were going to end badly, overall you seem to be playing pretty well though. Watch out for taking a stab at the pot and going into check/fold mode which it seemed like you did a couple of times. If I notice a player doing that I tend to roll over them pretty quickly. Also, although I can't see
He's been in for an hour and looks to be doing well (about double his buy in). A lot to go but a strong start.
Oooohh oops, you're on FCP, for some reason I thought it was Full Tilt, yeah send me an e-mail at my spam account (since I'm posting it on a forum): Email When is the actual event?
I'd say ultimately I generally play in a spot between your style and your wife. I'll rarely limp in (especially when the blinds are cheap and a 3xbb raise isn't too expensive compared to my stack), and I do play hands (overly) aggressively, but I tend to be much more careful with mid and bottom pairs. Of course, part of that would be because I'm usually hitting mid or bottom pairs with my suited connectors so unless I have other draws going for it, it's likely a dead hand. Anyway,
