If precentage of influence was present everywhere and not only around colonies and starbases then all space should belong one spehere of influence or another. But it does not. Lot of space is outside of spheres of influence. The influence dies with distance and can presumably reach zero.

Hmm, one incidence earlier tonight was a minor race so that's possible, but I believe that a couple of other times was a major race (that I definitely was not at war with). Next time I see it happen I roll back to an auto save and see if it repeats with a major race.

I didn't spot the topic elsewhere, but are computers supposed to be able to destroy my mining stations without declaring war on me? I've had this happen sporadically in several games, the computer never goes on a campaign against my mining stations, but rather will destroy one at a time over the course of 30 turns or so.

I agree with the sentiment that console shooters seem watered down. The control scheme is part of it, but also it seems to me they need to slow down the gameplay slightly to match the controls. I could take a nap during a firefight in Halo and wake up before it's over...

Woot, only 37 hour drive! I'll be there. *sigh* I'm stuck with east coast casinos for now...

Sounds likea great way to describe a scientific reason for an economic increase. If you really wanted to make it fair, I suppose it would also need say: 50% to economy or 20% to manufacturing as ore is ore and useful in many applications. Erm.. that's a good way to describe it? We have lots of paper, that doesn't mean our economy gets a boost

Well said Maj. Disaster, in addition to the points you bring up, a large part of it is cultural. As we can assume that each race in the game has a fairly different culture, I think you would see differing effects of war (both winning and losing).

Out of curiousity, where were you at for this?

"Yes" in answer to an OR question. Sign of a true programmer. (of course its an XOR) Well, it is arguably just an OR. If it comes out on the first day, one would assume that it still exists on the second day.

That's when you say, "Yep. I got completely lucky. Sorry." And take the next big pot off of him. The guys like that are a dime a dozen and play like it. Actually, the people like that are my favorite ones to find at a table.

If the tile has an icon of a little water drop or whatever that's supposed to be, you want to put one of the happiness creating centers (entertainment center or whatever your tech level equivalent is). If the tile has a little Classical Greek looking column, you want to put an embassy.

To me "fanboy" can also have a connotation of irrational loyalty. For example, being very quick to defend any flaw in this game, or to take offense at any comments critical of Stardock, would be behavior typical of a GC2 fanboy. Like the Half-Life 2 fanboys that try to say the game isn't more scripted than most hollywood movies. <

Bad tactic. Concentrating your forces into fleets guarantees victory when a dispersed force would be annihilated. It is far more cost effective to use scouts for scouting and fighters for butt-kicking. And presumably they're not the only defense. If combined with strong defense forces this gives him a sort defense in depth strategy. <br/

I was being sarcastic on the point. I don't think of China or Russia as "true" socialist states, since they failed and became horribly corrupt. However, the war America reacted to the Red Scare is amusing at best, and downright terrifying at worst. Besides, at the time Stalin was busy securing the Motherland with his evil lies and purges.

A little simplistic. It's not exactly that the Soviets and Chinese were innocent and just wanted a little space between them and us (never mind the people in between). It was a stated goal to bring the Socialist vision to the world as a whole.

The reason China and the Soviets were at best very very careful partners and at worst enemies comes from significant ideological differences. The Soviet Union was Leninist and China Maoist, the two ideas although both "communist" were ideologically quite different in focus. The most basic way to look at it was that Lenin's version focused on industrialization, while Mao's focused on agriculture.

I'll buy the Potsdam Conference being a prelude to the Cold War, but the Berlin Airlift was one of the first major events of the Cold War (not prelude to), and the Korean War was just one of many interludes where it got hot by proxy.
