That mission bugged me for a while. This has probably been posted elsewhere by someone else by now, but - the way I got past it was to get the minimum weaponry necessary to break past a flimsy defense (say laser II), rush as quickly as possible to planetary invasion, and hop across the map from one planet to another. All you need to do is conquer the furthest planet anyway. If you're running short of transports and credits by the end, use a constructor to create a starbase instead of conquering
