DreadLords Campaign

After a year playing GalCiv2 I thought I will try out the DreadLord campaign. And so I started it, but ... on what drugs was Stardock when creating the campaign? I mean its just ROFL.

Whats the point of losing tech, whats the point to revert the time? Its just plain stupid. I reinveted the same techs in 3 missions, 3 times the time got back from 2230 to 2220, wow. But what realy kills me are the Dread Lords. I got the reaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaly great hint to "avoid" them, how an I supposted to do it when they have speed 6? Getting warp drive takes time, and by the time I have it, the Dread Lords terrorize the map with like 10 destroyers. So where to hide? and I cant hide anyway, they thorw a troopship at me every third turn. Once I thought "heck, its just one world"... bad move. They started producing ships there too, overrunning me within a couple of rounds. And so I keep researching new techs, producing ships like an idiot, loosing 2/3 of my fleet to the DreadLords and hope, sometimes I will manage to reach the yor + drenging.

Now its years 2338 and I finaly got down there just to notice, I cant win that battle. The two have like a million heavy ships there. Well this will be fun fighting them. I wish I knew whats the point of the mission. It would be just too much asked to have the DreadLords in the first missions to be an occasional terror commando like the antarians in MOO2 hu? Or be just a bit stupid and just flying around, randomly killing something.

Ah btw my allies are a blast too. They do nothing, dont even build a couple of ships to attract the DreadLords away. They give me like 500creds every 15 turns. Great. Very helpfull.

I gues I will just try to survive, get DoomRay and Huge ships and overrun the DreadLords, but then again, why to play the campaign? I should have never started the campaign, it just makes me angry and forces me to dislike the game.

The campaigns are badly designed for both dreadlord and darkavatar.

Always start the tech at the beginning, always the same 3-4 races scenarios.

Much better playing your own customized galaxy.

By the way, maybe some scenario in custom game are nice but to be honest after playing the campaign I prefered to play only my own designed maps with all the races and my own customization.

In a regular game you can still get the Dread Lords if mega evets are turned on. In my last game they showed up about 15 turns after the 5pc speed limit mega event. 50 turns later and they still could'nt even beat a couple minors...

That mission bugged me for a while. This has probably been posted elsewhere by someone else by now, but - the way I got past it was to get the minimum weaponry necessary to break past a flimsy defense (say laser II), rush as quickly as possible to planetary invasion, and hop across the map from one planet to another. All you need to do is conquer the furthest planet anyway. If you're running short of transports and credits by the end, use a constructor to create a starbase instead of conquering a planet, that way your range will be extended far enough to skip a few, and hopefully it will last long enough. I actually suggest saving the one or two constructors you get given at the beginning because the abundance of enemies around you will just mean a quick death for any undefended structure out there, and you don't have the credits or the time to spare to really build up your defenses.
Outrunning the DL doesn't necessarily mean researching faster ships!

Anyway I agree, having to research the whole tech tree again every time is a right pain in the neck.
