Their ascension clock is only going to count down if they have at least one ascension crystal with a starbase on it. Otherwise, the countdown does not progress. So there has to be one that you've missed. Find that starbase(s) and destroy them. It's been done to ME by the AI, when an ascension victory was put on hold because my last ascension SB was destroyed.
Playing as the Iconians on a large map. Some of the starbases, both mine and other races, have become "invisible". I first realized this when I sent a constructor to what looked like an unoccupied resource, only to be unable to build anything. Clicking on the resource revealed that a starbase was already in place. Later in the same game, after destroying a Korath starbase, and constructing one of my own on the resource, my own starbase was "
Not out yet...just checked Impulse (impulsive of me, I know...)
Agreed, there are some minor bugs and things to balance, the research one is a medium size. Am I still having fun all the same? Ya, you betcha. The races really do feel really different now, which provides enormous replayability. It's not just a slap of paint on each time I play a different race.
I want to chime in that in the main, we understand that Stardock is a small and striving game company. I can't believe that the vocal minority have truly played games where the QA was absymal and the support non-existent. Compared to those companies and games, and without reservation, Brad and the rest of the Stardock team are golden.
I don't generally zoom out far enough to require the icons since I don't normally play that large of a map. My current game on a huge map (as the Krynn, and locked in a nasty war with the Drath), I have found zooming out to be very useful). That said, I rarely zoom in enough to catch the little flourishes like race icons on the starbases that someone mentioned in another thread.
I never zoomed in enough to see that. Neat!
I might have to try Avast, if AVG is going to stop scanning my email after a month.
I suspect that a CEO *has* to be an arrogant ass now and then.
I understand that minor races don't have influence effects as major races do. But I don't think that they should be able to control mines from accross the galaxy with no fear of revolt. I think if it existed an unseen influence radius around them so they could control mines nearby but, not spaning the galaxy.
That's the problem. Give a minor race space miners, and they will take lots of asteroid fields "out of circulation" as they colonize it for mines for the minor th

In the end, redwing, you have to choose yourself. The answer has to come from within. I have said elsewhere that, even with the bugs, gltiches and flaws, I am glad to have supported Stardock by pre-ordering TOA, and derive enormous pleasure from it. I have been playing 4x Strategy games since the days of EMPIRE and IMPERIUM GALACTUM in the 80's. Many games have been a disappointment. A few are fondly remembered forever--IG, Master of Orion I (and to a lesser extent II). Star
My list is too long! I started Strategy gaming in 1984 with Imperium Galactum (for the Atari, not the Commie 64). Gah, I'm old. ;)
Five things. Okay, I mean them with love. 1. Fix the tech trees glitches--Thalan Starbase Attack modules being a big one. And are the Altarian and Drath supposed to have nearly identical trees? 2. Alt-Esc crashing. I do like to multi-task (if for no other reason than to read the manual...) 3. Rebalance ships a bit. Offense seems to be a little too strong in comparison to defense. 4. Maybe let up a bit on the economic throttling pedal a little. Just a little.
There are bugs, some minor, some serious (The Thalan missing a crucial starbase tech bug for one thing). However, it still has a "one more turn" feel, whether or not I am winning or losing. The game is more difficult--I've had to dial back my difficulty after an initial early win. The Terrans have walked all over me twice, as the Arceans and the Thalans. My newest game--I'm playing the Terrans. Let's see if I do better.
The last two games I've played, the humans have been the bad boys of the game, aggressively expanding diplomatically and militarily.
In the case of the Thalians, though, those weakish super projects *must* be built to have a chance at an effective start.
I go camping with my friends, nearly every year. These camping trips can and do take more than ten days. And yes, we are not anywhere near an internet connection. This year, for instance, we're going to Yellowstone National Park for two weeks. This sort of copy protection seems to scream to me "Don't go camping or you'll be sorry." I suppose I could leave my computer on for days at a time, but that's an awful waste of power. Ugh.
Just played a game as Yor and they aren't that bad. Like you said, you have to play differently, not use up all your tiles.
I think that's a lesson I am learning the hard way for all races in TOA, thanks to the changes in economics. Its much easier to go broke than in DL or DA.
Something might be said for turning off megaevents for the first few games of TOTA, until the new quirks and features are completely grokked.
I admit to being surprised about the neg. diplomacy hit. I happened, in my first game, to have two crystals close by. I put starbases on them, and my relatively peaceful Altarians started to be hated by everyone--even the usually placid Terrans.
Be sure to have fun with the Metaverse. I know I have fun with seeing my stats compared to everyone elses. This game is too much funm it needs an alarm feature so you know when to stop playing.
You said it. I meant to play for a half hour today, and it took an effort to stop after double that period.
