I came home after work today, intending to play TA for a half hour or so before turning myself to other chores and tasks I intended to accomplish before thoughts of dinner. Even with the bugs and glitches that have been documented elsewhere, TA still has for me the "one more turn" quality. It was an hour before I finally said to myself. "Okay, must stop and get things done." And still...I salivate at the opportunity to get back in the saddle again and continue to explore the change
One other note: The starting +1 speed the Drengin get is actually pretty useful, and balances out the diplomacy penalty, and they've got the best ground troops in the game (excluding the Arceans choosing to build 45 or more cathedrals of valor).
Speed is life. Its no coincidence that it costs 5 pts as a special ability.
I never realized how much thought some people put into this aspect of the game. For all my attack ships, I just pick a word I think sounds cool and add a MkI, MkII, etc.. on the end as it gets upgraded. My utility ships, I just prefix the name with the type of engine it has: Ion Colony, Warp Transport, Hvy. Warp Transport once I have the Advanced Troop Mod, etc..
I'm not surprised. I used to be scattershot with names, but then realized that having a system could
Well, I tried to give Kryo karma (cuz really guys, who else deserves it more?) but it won't let me -which is weird cuz I haven't given anyone karma yet, so i know its not the 10 min thing-*takes out a stack of greens*
I tried to give Kryo some karma today, too, and had it fail. (his advice on my question about CD versus download has gotten me to actually play Twilight.). I was able to give Frogboy a point of karma, though, because he deserves it, too.<br/

So far its the new tech trees. The races always played differently, especially since DA, but now I am re-learning how to play the Altarians all over again. And that re-learning is an opportunity to try all of the races in a new light, too. There's a heaping scoop of replay value right there.

It worked! Easy peasy. Thanks! I love the opening sequence. It's ever more clear that you guys were inspired by the Star Control series. (No bad thing!). Off to play now. :CONGRAT:

Hello! Months ago, I pre-ordered both SINS and Twilight. While Sins has eaten much of my gaming time (along with other gaming addictions), I actually (heresy!) haven't downloaded a Twilight Beta. I've been waiting patiently for the real deal to be done. So since I may have lost or not be able to find the email with the downloading instructions for Twilight and Sins, the question becomes--when does the physical CD for Twilight ship? (for both, I ordered a CD and dow

Even more so, you can pick the exact opponent you want to face, if you think that a fight against a particular Civ will be (even more) of a cakewalk. Sort of like choosing specific Civs to fight against in Civilization IV
This is all likely to get even worse after those new-fangled pocket projectors are solidly on the market. Nowhere will be safe from PowerPoint or porn. Restaurant ceilings, the back seats of school buses, bathroom walls, your own front door if you don't get in it quickly enough--all at risk.
I will get *truly* worried if Dave Langford's mind-killing BLITs are displayed using that technology. :)
- Please avoid all gun-powder based weapons, like pistols, rifles and cannons. The existence of such weapons on a scale where they would actually be widely used in melee and on the battlefield is ALWAYS an anachronism in a traditional fantasy setting with castles and knights.
Well...what if those munitions were the "type of sorcery" used by one particular unit or race? The Moranth munitions from the Steven Erikson "Malazan novels" for example, are gunpowder explosives th
"I read something recently where many scholars are beginning to think that "The Prince" was actually intended to be a oblique criticism of the people in power duirng Machiavelli's lifetime"Machiavelli was fishing for a job at the time, so 'The Prince' is actually the most extensive and well-written resume in history. (He didn't get the job, BTW).
Machivelli is definitely an interesting figure with an eye for the main chance. One thing I learned about him a few years

You know, until I started playing Sins, I would have said "Amen" to the No RTS admonition that you made. I think, if you did it in the same sedate style that Sins has for Real Time, you could make a sequel to MOM and do it in Real Time. I wouldn't want it in the same sort of frentic pace as, say, Rise of Legends, but I could deal with a RTS which was more like Sins.

While I admit the artistry and effort put into the original Starcraft...it wasn't a game that suited my playing style and tastes. So the announcement of a sequel just gets a shoulder shrug from me, I am afraid.

My play style is the same as it is in (most) strategy games (including Civ IV) I'm a relatively peaceful builder with a heavy emphasis on tech. The fact that you can win on a tech victory in Gal Civ is something I highly appreciate. Mind you, I don't always manage it. Sometimes I think I play *too* peacefully, and militaristic neighbors on my borders( *E&&@#&* Drengin) can really ruin my day.

I saw the changes first on the SINS site. Probably because of cached images and pages here preventing me from seeing the changes sooner.
Behold: #1 at Gamespot: I hope you paid off Gamespot with some advertising or you won't get a good review! It's rare they give scores above 8 to anything that doesn't advertise, from what I've seen. I've been taking their reviews with a grain of salt since well before Gerstmann-gate.
Gerstmann-gate?

I think its perfectly honest and good that the designers would put themselves in a small way like this into their work. In SF fandom circles, there is a long and honorable tradition of "tuckerizing" friends and acquaintances into novels. So why not video games, too? Heck, Sid Meier does it with the Civilization games.
