I live in Virginia, just outside of Washington, D.C. We are paying about $2.95 for regular unleaded gas. Further south, where the taxes are less, they are paying as low as $2.75. I saw this last Sunday while driving down there.

Above comments are good. I suggest you also search the Forum using "newbie" to read some other points of view.
I agree on Galactic Guidebook. I really like StarWeb's suggestions for anomalies to occur during the game, and for terraforming to make new squares usable. I mean, isn't that what the classical definition of terraforming is about? Making unusable planetary surface usable? How about using it to make planets with NO habitable squares usable? Now there would be a Wonder-full thing! StarWeb-- Did you ever play the Flying Buffalo PBM StarWeb game? It was a lot of fun. <i
Whoops! My mistake. The button works correctly. Sorry
Minor Bug-- In the Trade tab of the Domestic screen there is a map of trade routes in the galaxy. There is a button that toggles between "Show All" and "Show Mine". The toggle is working exactly oppositely. Clicking on Show Mine shows all, and vice versa.
I'm playing a game on Normal difficulty, Medium galaxy, 5 random races. Four are progressing normally, one has not done a thing off -world. They partially developed their two planets and that's it. I have no idea why they were (they surrendered when I conquered the small world) so passive.

I am running all graphics on max using an EVGA GeForce 6600 256MB 8X AGP card. I used it to upgrade my 3yr old Dell 1.8GHz 1Gb RAM PC. It is driving my Dell 1905FP flat panel at 1280x1024. I bought if from Newegg.com for under $150 (I think). It should be cheaper now. If your machine is newer than mine, you probably need a PCI-Express card vice an AGP. You can get a GeForce 6800 for about $200. I suggest you check out the the reviews on PCworld.com. Go REVIEWS-->Graphics Cards. They h
I like the "Selectable improvement level" idea. Instead of a tab though, how about when you click on, say, Factory, a pop-up would show your choices and how long they would take to be complete. Then you could select the one you wanted. No extra clutter; one extra click. Should an "auto-upgrade yes/no" switch be available? By planet or by empire or both?
I don't understand why the galactic map is still a flat 2D map. I realize we use "flat screens" and "flat panels" instead of "holotanks." BUT, why can't the galactic map be a rotatable 3D map? I saw one posting about a "corner strategy." That should be nonsense in the vast 3D immensity of a galaxy. If an enemy civilization is between me and my goal, why can't I go under or over them to get there?
A lot of interesting ideas here. I'll just talk about one-- borders. I really don't see how you can have impassable borders in an immense 3-D space. Chokepoints are usually caused by the inability of a unit/supply route to negotiate the terrain. Space ships should be able to go wherever they phyiscally can. If the "locals" don't like your there, they can tell you about it. Then, you decide if moving there is worth any risks. The borde
Help! I am trying to create my first character. I start the game and click on Metaverse. I login. The next window asks me if I want to create a character. I click on 'yes'. The window disappears and nothing happens. Is something going on I can't see? Am I too impatient?? Also, the Metaverse home page says it is populated with Test Data and will be wiped clean on 21 Feb??? What gives?
I agree mostly with C.N. Small planets research only. Use any bonus squares for their enhancements. Make sure you save room for tech/research/econ Capitals. Since people = tax revenue you have to build some farms. Don't be afraid to destroy some improvements to make way for others if your strategy changes.
This post was inspired by one I read concerning "Why don't I get a messge when someone declares war?" I suggest the role of GNN be expanded to improve the player's situational awareness. Every military watchcenter I've ever been in has CNN going 24x7. GNN could do the same for us. GNN could report: Declarations of war, Alliances, Invasions, Colonization, Outcome of large battles, Changes in govt type. More?? In addit
- Where is GNN in this war and peace business? Why don't we get a "news flash" when war is declared? - I agree that we should be able to make demands on the trade screen. - It wouldn't hurt to take some ideas from Civ4's diplomacy - Which reminds me, why can't we target our spies, instead of just throwing money at our "CIA" and accepting whatever they come up with? Guess that's another thread, though.
