The inflation of tech-cost is a known issue, or at least Brad knows about it, it can't be solved no matter how much you fiddle with the sliders, nor by turning your entire empire into one big god damn university, as every time you research a new tech the cost of all remaining techs rise. I turned all of the resources and tiles of my 80 planet empire towards research, and Stingers II still needed three turns to be researched, all the while I should be eating my way through the missile br

I must've have gotten a brain tumor or something because since 1.3 was released I've managed to load probably every other time I want to save. It's an automatic behavior programmed into me by 10 years of pc gaming: When you save, you double click on the file whereupon the game asks you whether or not you want to overwrite said file, and if that's what I want to do I click yes. In GalCiv2 I click my way to the save/load screen and double click on the file I want to save over. I then proceed to ex

A species on the other hand is defined by being able to procreate with each other (again, with fertile offspring) but not with other animals who then, by definition, belong to other species (think cats and dogs trying to do it). That definition is being kicked senseless by various hybrids. Technically, horses and zebras belong to the same genotype, but not speci

I think there's some invention that allows rogue terrorists to destroy races, and that all races are thick enough to have terrorists (off topic) I'm bemused. In Swedish race is a term for a population within a species with differing phenotype, which can still produce fertile offspring with all other races of the species (think dogs doing it). A

Some scientists actually argue that the creation of life is not a random occurance, but a state which matter "strives" for under certain conditions, which may be vary varied. If so is the case, life on other planets might not just exist, but exist in plenty. Regarding "intelligent" life one might ask if intelligent is really the way to go, seen from an (creationists look away now!) evolutionary perspective. Virtually all species larger than mice, gets erradicated during a (large) mass

We're talking about a sequel here right? In that case lets broaden our horizons a bit. Why should Galciv3 take place on a 2D "board" like galciv2? How about a three dimensional galaxy, perhaps with some scale? The starmaps from the Freespace games come to mind (not because Galciv3 has to have anything like it, it just comes to mind). I'm not a big fan of battles in the dead of space, I prefer more "realistic" (I think) battles in star systems or close to major resources. Compared to a

It does however present an idea that makes me look at Galciv2 in a kinda, "why can't you do that hun?" kind of way. All species in the game use different forms of FTL-travel, terrans play around with subspace while the whatyacallem insects have to travel with a stargate to a new system before FTL becomes avilable. One of the races makes light eat dust and do FTL in normal space! Oh the tactics! Oh the Strategy!!

But it shure would be nice though, to commit some unadulterated xenocide on my friends every ones in a while. Sometimes I feel that the true meaning of the design-tool is to blow up your friends designs, even though this potential remains tragically untapped. Oh well, in the meantime, die Altarian fracktards!

I find that sometimes the AI (in most 4x- or RTS-titles) does things that amazes me. I've had my ass handed to me by many an AI that I thought I had mastered, but who suddenly perform the most brilliant feats of military planning and execution. In GC2 I had this experience when I attacked the Iconians and was repelled. First off, the grey bastards refused any kind of ceasefire. Then they attacked me, and focused all their resolve on my core worlds. I thought I had the situation well

I've been wondering if combat in GC2 takes place, so to speak, in normal space or at FTL-speed? If a battle takes place at a speed of several lightyears per day, that just might be a bit too much for a fighter pilot to cope with neh? This be my first post by the way (At least I think it is...), my lurking days are hereby over! PS Kane lives!
