I just replaced my starport with a factory, and then changed the factory to a starport again without problems. You do know the list of buildings can scroll up/down if there are a lot of options don't you?

Is it just me or do the transports that are left over from invading a planet with a fleet get their full movement points back after the invasion?
What do you want them to respond to? From what I can figure you have two problems: 1 Some core designs do not show up 2 AI uses small ships 1 Designing your own is better 2 Yes it does. So what exactly is gameplay-crippling issue? That it is too easy to win a game? Will having the AI build fewer big ships in stead of more small ships fix that for you?
Perhaps the bug is that the spy report does not take all Minituarization bonuses into account. Or they built that ship at a time they had a bonus which has since been gone/destroyed. Or they received that ship from another Civ with more min. ability.
Aha, and here I was thinking I had built too many MultiMedia Centers, causing my Fleet Captains brains to turn to mush. I even tried fitting all Ship captains with tin-foil hats to counter the invisible alien brain-wave disruptor weapons.
Erhm yes, I do have an xml folder in my main Galciv2 install dir. It holds these files: gc2_Movies.xml gc2_Multimedia.xml gc2_Tutorials.xml gc2.xml I think that these files are only used by Stardock to keep track of installed files and updates however. I have noticed no difference in gameplay with this folder present or (temporarily) removed. I do think there is a bug here somewhere. I almost get the feeling that you only get core design
IMHO the campaign is more a sort of 'tutorial' to get your feet wet for the Real Thing. It is not the heart of galciv2, not the Real Game, just a fun side-thing to play for people that cannot decide how they want to play their own Galactic Civilization yet.
Perhaps your current Research buildings are already more advanced than the Neutral Research building. In that case you would not see them.
The ship-data is in \Data\English\GC2Ships.xml The ships configs are in \Data\ShipCfg\ The missileboat is S0_SolarFox.shipcfg But I doubt that that is where the problem lies. Have you tried deleting the \Document and Settings\ username \My Documents\My Games\GalCiv2 folder before reinstalling? You may also want to check the debug.err file for errors that might be related to your problem. I've al
Get +2 speed as an ability before you start. Design a colony ship with just 1 colony module and stuff it full of engines for max speed. BUY a lot of these at your planets (don't worry about money, there's plenty) Send all your col ships everywhere, but especially in the targets direction. At the planet nearest to the target, buy some simple offensive ships and as many transports as your population allows. Take a Yor planet near
