Hopefully GalCiv3 comes out soon and with hotseat multiplayer support this time around!

If it only would include a hotseat function, I´d buy it in an instant. But as it is, not enough interesting content.
I have stated quite some times my case for multiplayer, but in the context of this post by Draginol, I want to state one of my key experiences which make me post every few months another request for hotseat. The game with the most longevity I have experienced is Master of Orion 2. While it has some pretty obvious design flaws ( terrible diplomacy AI, for example ), the otherwise excellent gameplay and hotseat MP has guaranteed that every few months some of my friends get together and pl
Oh, please. Yeah, the *multiplayer* fans are somehow more rabid than the single player people, when they don´t like a change? I´ve visited these forums long enough to see multiple temper tantrums over changes to this or that race, the economy, etc. I still want hotseat. ^^ And balance be damned, to be honest, I want to sit down with my friends and have a hotseat MP game, nothing more, nothing less. I still hope hotseat gets included after you finish The Political Machine ( now with mor
Go for the PQ 1-4 worlds next, they will be some of the best worlds in the long run. Pick up the PQ 5-9 worlds last.
Can someone elaborate a bit on this? How exactly are the low-quality worlds some of the best ones in the long run, and why would you take them over the 5-9 PQ worlds?
My suggestion: Build your game in a way that adding Hotseat Multiplayer isn´t too time-consuming to feasibly do.
No, it wouldn't by easy. It's been suggested before, but hotseat would actually require *more* work and changes than standard multiplayer would.
Would it be possible to elaborate on that? Or if Cari already did, link up to her post? I´d really like to know what exactly makes it so problematic. From my ( admittedly totally ignorant of programming issues ) side, it seems as easy as adding a "Add another player" button to the main menu. Obviously it isn´t as easy, but I´d li
Well, damn. :( I guess by the time the source code will be released, we´ll be seeing previews for GalCiv3, which, IIRC, will include multiplayer.
I still say "Add Hotseat, ignore the rest", but as CariElf has said multiple times, even that would amount to much more than simply adding a "Add a new player" button to the game. Still my greatest wish. I tried to bring about four friends to play the game, but they all said that they wouldn´t consider it until Hotseat is added. Of course that could be just my particular circle of friends, because we have a history of huddling together in front of MOO2, but I still think there would be
As there definitely won´t be a support by Stardock for MP, Hotseat or otherwise, aren´t there any modders out there who are going to try something in that vein? I find it strange that GalCiv2 doesn´t seem to have a real modding community, seeing how popular it is. Of course there aren´t many things that *need* to be modded, but some sort of multiplayer seems to be the obvious choice. And, no, I don´t have the first idea on how to do that... I rely on friendly modders like mos

Okay, since Brad is here anyway, I´ll ask once more, how difficult would it to add hotseat? I can understand that network multiplayer would use a lot of resorces, i.e. budget. But would hotseat *really* be that difficult to implement? As far as I understood it from the dev posting in counter of it, it would require rewriting a lot of code. From my very limited understanding as player, however, it would require simply adding an option for a second player at the same computer. What is th
Saying that you want it done by next week either constitutes an unsettling disconnect with reality or a very strong feel of "let´s see how many flames I can get, teehee". Just to put it in perspective, I am all for multiplayer, too. I just think it´ll be included at the soonest with the next expansion.
I guess this is what´s called a "troll". ^^
Tell me about it... I´m living on an empty purse, too. But for hotseat, I´d shell it out as soon as the paycheck hits.
Honestly, I´d be happy to just play the game in hotseat just like it is now. Note, in hotseat with buddies... playing "competitive" on the net would probably really need a massive rebalancing. "Expanded Universe" didn´t sound really like a multiplayer expansion to me, just like loads of new races and stuff, but now that I think it over... And what´s that with "nipping it in the bud"?<br/
Well, as I´ve got a lot of gaming buddies who live nearby, we like to game together on a regular basis. Most of the times it´s Dungeons & Dragons, but sometimes we start up Master of Orion 2. Doing the same with GalCiv 2 would be what I want... hotseat multiplayer. And in the interview the next expansion is even mentioned by name... Galactic Civilizations II: Expanded Universe.
Well, no AI can replace my friend playing beside me in a hotseat game. Unless the devs can integrate social commentary into the game. ^^ And for my case, I waited months to buy DA, just because I wanted to see if anything about multiplayer would materialize. An expansion which features such would be an insta-buy for me. I remember well the initial interviews for Dread Lords, where it was mentioned several times that while multiplayer wasn´t part of the game for now, the interna
I got two influence resources in my first DA game, which I just finished yesterday on a large map ( with a diplomatic victory... I created a "Super-Terrans" race, high diplomacy, Super Diplomats, etc. ). By the mid-game I was getting one to two planets per turn falling to me, just because of influence. At the end-game, it slowed down, due to me getting close to the other civs homeworlds, but still every other turn a world flipped. Impressive, impressive. I had about 60% of the vote in
You mean that one which has been there from day one and says "We´ll see about it"? ^^ Kinda outdated, y'know. So, Kryo, when can we expect to hear anything about the next expansion? The site has been kinda slow on updates lately, anyway. *Edit* Oh, hey, there is talk about the expansion in that interview on the front page. When can we have details? I´ll put my vote for multiplayer here again. <img src="http://images.stardock.com/gc2/T_DL/smiles/Laugh.gif" border=0 align="absmi
So, I finally caved and bought DA for my birthday. As always excellent, though the espionage thing seems a bit iffy. I haven´t had yet the time to really get into a huge map and I´m wondering what happens when you go to war with more than one civ... do you get swamped by spies? Anyway, now that I´ve plunked down my dollars for the product and have played it for a good while, I again came down with this fierce desire to play together with friends. So, will the next expansion cover m
Well, I´ll hold onto my ( pretty scant anyway ) money, until I know for sure what will be up with hotseat. ^^ Another matter why hotseat would be a good idea: My before mentioned friends were almost all saying that they´d give the game a chance, if it only had hotseat. As it is, they think the lack of it makes it not worth their while.
The developers have stated that possible multiplayer is a matter of resources. Therefore, I am creating this thread to maybe give an incentive why hotseat would be a good idea. I am a big fan of the original game. However, after playing it for two months or so it began to become stale for me, even with the improvements over the mayor patches. How so? I was missing the possibility to play hotseat MP with friends of mine at my computer. Hotseat has been a staple of games like Master of Or
I also just want Hotseat. Make it like SP Games, just add the possibility to add another human player or more. I miss the days of long Hotseat MP games of Master of Orion 2 with friends at home. And Hotseat really shouldn´t be too much of a problem, programming-wise.
