There are a few third party programs that do this for you. One I particuarly like is fraps ( Link ). It can also record video. However the free version has limits on the video (with a watermark), and I think can only print to a BMP. But at least it stores it for you so you can take multiple pictures and batch convert them later. If you can afford it though, it is worth buying,, cheap and very pow

*bump* (it would be nice to know if this is being looked in to) Also, what happened to removing all known bugs in a game before it is released? Just a thought.. (I know, these things are harder than they sound... if ya got a release date you gotta release)

You can put the registration number in stardock and it should be able to download it for you... There is help in stardock that tells you how to do it.

It's when you try to create a player for the metaverse.... (I know this because I have had the same, the original poster wasn't being very useful)

Peronsally I prefer a system where "game", and "user prefs" are in separate locations. In particular, anything that doesn't change in one place, anything that does in another. The reason why I prefer this is that it makes backing up my prefs/saved games etc easier, because they are all in one place and I don't have to separate it from the files I get from a standard install. The second reason is that it is possible (and easier) (t

I can't believe we haven't gotten this far and no one has mentioned that space isn't two-dimensional (well, to be more exact, 3 dimensional objects on a 2-dimensional plane! I would suggest NOT playing any games if you have probl

A good way to get the Turn button to reappear is to retire and then load the game back up Well, it comes back... but then I press it and still nothing happens... so no luck there

hmm, maybe (very very maybe) this is related to the "AI influence taking over the entire map" problem others have had...

#1, espionage #2 would be interesting, if you can say something like "Keep out of my space or else I would declare war!"... Of course if you can do this, then maybe also other things like; "Don't take X planet or I'll declare war", or "Don't attack/alliance with race X or I'll declare war!",,, or "don't research X or I'll declare war!!", "Don't look at me funny or I'll declare war".... Keep them all on their toes, and make them have to deci

Happened to me where a race's influenced jump a fair bit, not enough to take the entire universe, but from 1/3rd of the map to 1/2 (not a lot, but substantial compared to the usual jumps) and taking most of the other races' influence as well. Although this might've been because of something he acquired, so I assumed it wasn't a bug, just a jump in culture due to something or other...

Ditto. I also have a save game from before the vainsh, but it goes away within the next two turns. therefore I can't continue. In fact, I have yet to finish a non-campaign game because of this. Every time I play I lose the turn button after several years. I'm going to have to resort to not starting a new game until this is fixed, because otherwise I will be stuck after it starts to get interesting, which is a shame, I was in control of half the universe. PS. I n

Another reason I would think that people are buying instead of pirating is because with Stardock Central, it is EASIER to buy the game than pirate it. Think about it, I can try to download off a torrrent, or off StartDock... Only difference with stardock is you get updates, support, easy access to the game... The only difficulty is you need a credit card, but most of us do, the rest can buy at stores. And none of the Steam-like no

On second thoughts, using Crickel's old save game would be inconclusive, since its a save before the change and therefore unreliable... Oh well, we'll just have to wait and see if it pops up again in a new game.

On a side note, the colony ship just goes back to a home planet when it has no where to go... shouldn't it try out some exploration, other than wasting time sitting at a planet?

147 Replies 99,158 Views

Well that has definitley cleared up my findings - I can no longer do what I mentioned before. So from me. I guess at some point, under the conditions I gave it, it was not getting initialised properly... odd.. but all is good. I'll try the more complex scenario by crickel just to be sure.

I hear it was intentional, but yes it is also controversial... You can exploit it a fair bit... I haven't tried it myself, but I am not sure how well you can exploit it... Being in the red puts serious penalties on a lot of things, economy, production, popularity. The benefits from exploiting it may out weigh any advantages you get. I don't know for sure, but it would be worth experimenting with.

To further that note; The code posted by FrogBoy, I believe, is to evaluate whether or not to create more colony ships. And so the error (if there is one) is not necesserily there, as a colony ship may already exist. Secondly, its not how does the AI gain knowledge of a planet, because it has been shown that they never magically gain knowledge of a planet Rather, how does a colony ship move through space? I believe that somewhere in that code, the AI is going through

It is a shame that a patch update is going to make all your ship designs disappear (so I read in a different thread)... Otherwise... Next I want to see a garbage truck

It really does seem that if they don't get a planet within sensors, they won't send colony ships out, not even blindly. haha, Now you are "changing sides"... Just when I was starting to agree with you Oh well, I hope everyone else is having as

Just some clarification I want to give the Original Poster; if a process is on your computer, but isn't actively doing anything at the time. It doesn't slow the computer down AT ALL (except at initial load when it will for a bit... so you start-up time if a few milliseconds slower).. It takes up a little bit of memory, and sits there waiting to be invoked when it is needed. Once it is needed, it will take up processor time... But at that stage yo

In short, the problem I noticed was that a colony ship would go to an un-scouted available planet iff te scout already exists, When I say "te scout already exists", I of course mean "the colony ship already exists"... stupid edit button not working

147 Replies 99,158 Views

FrogBoy, I think you should have a look at the Link I posted earlier. It shows a scenario which is very rare in a real game (so your tests that you described earlier would of missed it), but is very plausible and will happen on occasion. In short, the problem I noticed was that a colony ship would go to an un-scouted available planet iff te scout already exists, but has no known planets that it can go to. This only hap
