I just loaded up SDC and there it was. GCII [Beta] Click on update. Or you can get it via the downloads section

Sending constructors to the starbase you want is not micromanagement. I don't see how your way will make you manage any less, Orion Adrian. In fac tthere's many lame things in your plan, like jacking up a 'constructor slider' right before a fleet hits and poof it is all of a sudden a fully upgraded battle station. And exactly which planet is you 'mini-constructor' coming from? Hmmmm? A queue would be nice, a constructor rally poi
Yeah and I won't be able to drain 2B people off of a 5B world anymore when my transport planets are low on people. Becuase if I suck too many people off, it'll take even longer to grow. It's mainly the growth rate that is going to hurt the colony rush. Pre-1.1 beta, you could go to 100% spending and keep that and just when you hit about 500-1.5k BC left you start to get close to breaking even. After 1.1 beta, you're gonna have to either stop
Here's an easier way: Go to C:\Documents and Settings\YOUR_ACCOUNT\My Documents\My Games\GalCiv2 or Start->My Documents->My Games -> GalCiv2 will work too In that folder will be stuff called CurrentCustomRace7.raceconfig and such. Delete those files and viola, all your races are restored.
Citizen AsokGreen: You know this was funny when someone did it for Diablo or World or Warcraft (I forget the game and situation where someone first made a funny analogy-story to a fast food restaurant) But this doesn't make any sense and it is not funny. Not very well written or put together. At comedy you fail At complaining you fail At analogies you fail At originality you fail Grade: F
I am not happy when you say the AI gets easily crushed, frogboy. I have a lot of feedback on the AI at the moment, but am waiting to see what 1.1 beta does as I don't want to write 10 pages of fixes that you already know about and have fixed in 1.1 beta. Hows the ship design AI doing? I have good notes on designing ships if you are interested, AI ship design sems so weak most of the time 1/0 tiny hulls, man what a waste. Oh yeah a
I don't notice this as much as you guys are, how late in the game are you seeing this? Because in my last game I have fleets of 4x 4/0 small hulled ships which gives me a 16/0 fleet. Now that vs a 6/0 AI fighter fleet, I'll lose 1 ship guaranteed, maybe 2. IE I shoot first, do about 10 damage, kill one fighter then he does 5 damage then I do 10 again, etc, etc. I noticve that HP makes a huge difference. My last game I had a sligh
I like to build 1 factory and the rest market centers. This makes a tidy profit so my larger PQs can build a lot of factories and spend a lot of BC. If I have a couple of these I will go 1x factory and the rest research labs, that seems to go well too. I don't like to put a starport on there because by the time I get to medium hulls they can't put out a starship very fast anymore.
I agree 100%. Not sure what difficulty you played your last game on, but I think you need to crank it up to crippling or suicidal difficulty. Any difficulty below Intelligent acts like a flaming moron. A higher difficulty will mean even if you grab more planets, AI bonuses + a large map will give you at least a few strong AIs. I would classify the AI as working but broken so I would try again after patch 1.1 is out (will be in beta sometime
It's a feature to prevent new players from getting too far into debt and never being able to get out and quit playing. If you purposely abuse the -2000 BC debt limit well duh of course you are exploiting and cheating the game. No one really cares if you cheat though, but I wouldn't be bragging around about how you 'pwned the gamorz omg'
1. Overrides. IE if you have a trade center (15% econ or something) building a bank will give you 24% econ now. 2. Short answer: Yes. Long answer: Yes. 3. Influence starbases max out at 387 Influence I believe so the enemy will laugh at 2-3 starbases with only 2 modules. Not sure about economy bases and trade routes. I have heard that you need the starbase to be near the planet the trade route starts in. I haven't noticed any sign
You need to take a *single* constructor to an *empty* square and then select the construct option. It's a little button to the left of the details of the constructor. Like where guard and sentry commands are. Although I must warn you, Influence starbases will not change how other races feel about you, they effect your borders and influence flipping enemy planets. Putting an Influence starbase next to another races planets may actually cause
Yeah, this has happened to me too. I posted about this a few days ago and got the same people spamming "oh maybe he has more +mini" He didn't, we had the same stuff. To find out what it is, you need to fight the drengins and see if they send anymore of that ship at you. If they don't send anymore of that design, then it is likely that it is some freaky ship that he bought from another race or the planet had some weird bonus on it. If you see the same ship design come after you in grou
The more I think about it, I think that GC2 isn't mising soul per se but it is missing the "5th X" What I mean by that is that GC2 is missing something in addition to the typical 4X game. For example: SMAC-Had that pyschic fungus that is constantly a problem. MoO2-Antarans would all of a sudden smack around the #1 or #2 platyer in the galaxy, creating panic CIv-Just playing throughout history, building wonders, meeting famous leaders and
Masn, I completely agree with you, Citizen Orion Adrian. I think the reason we still continue to play GalCiv2 is that it's the only decent strategy sci-fi empire building game made in the last 5 years or so. For one I think the AI personality is very disappointing. And yes I play on Crippling and above so don't tell me to turn up the difficulty. In Civ4, the leaders acted differently, Montezuma will attack you like a madman while others wi
I really hope this'll get fixed in the upcoming patch. It's not too hard to fix, I mean Civ4's 'auto-pilot' is beautiful, it shows how many turns it will take for that unit to get anywhere by holding down the right click button and the atuo-pilot goes after you move all of your units needing orders. Civ4 also has a force auto-move hotkey so it's very painless. Pretty simple to change imo.
I will take exception to "the AI is pretty bad" though. Pretty bad compared to what? Well, pretty bad as it the AI in GC2 is just as bad as in other games. But the thing is, other games usually rely on their mulitplayer or long campaigns for good gameplay while GC2 is really a single player game so a
I agree that the AI is pretty bad. It has a few big bugs(speed, starbases, transport protection, hull size, rapid expansion, fleet forming, etc) that really disable it, with a few tweaks the AI should be a lot better. But I don't think it's a case of the emperors new clothes. I think everyone knows the AI is just as dumb as in most games. There was a thread a few days ago asking for smart things you've seen the AI do, there were no responses or storie
Well, yeah if you exploit the debt cancellation thing the game will be very easy. Really, the way they implemented it is quite dumb, as Iascivio said, a simple popup box warning you that you are going to go into a large debt would be sufficient in helping newbies out. 9 AIs on tiny/small/medium seems like too many. The AI is good at grabbing planets early but not that good, so give the AI some space and maybe it'll perform better. They did b
Not exactly how to word it, but does the AI get cheats in its ships? For instance does it get more space to put in stuff or are it's components smaller? I thought the AI only got an econ boost past Intelligent, if the AI gets more bonuses, exactly what else does it get? Because I dunno what else is going on in my current game. I saw an enemy frigate (Human, crippling difficulty) and I looked at its details and it had: Medium Hull W
Yes, I had this problem too. I think it's a problem with the digital download. When I reinstalled via the CD, I got a install.log file. Only workaround is to go through Stardock central and uninstall that way, pretty lame imo.
Crazyhawk: I get crazy HPs on my ships and I don't farm. Mainly because the AI sends lots of fighters and heavy fighters at me. Still, getting well over 50 hp on a ship that starts with 10 hp is insane and pretty unbalanced. You say don't exploit the game, I say I can't help it, what do you want me to do, destroy my victorious fleets? Marioflag: Revolutionary? MoO2 had leaders you could put on a planet or in a fleet. It needs to b
I've had this weirdness happen in my current game. Playing with Genius AIs and the Altarans gave me a bunch of starbase resources! First it was weird because he said he was giving me some ships to help in my war vs the Drengin. I am not at war with the Drengin, but I did reject two demands so I think I was at war with the Drengin but it didn't show up on the treaties page. An AI giving my a starbase for free is pretty crazy. I mean giving aw
No way to check once the game has started. It would be really nice to know, I've abandoned a few games on Intelligent because I saw the AI do something just absolutely stupd and thought, "Am I really on Intelligent, man I don't remember...my save was from 3 days ago, I dunno" Just make a new game and then put a sticky note on your comp, large map 7 AIs, Intelligent. Hehe.
Yeah I'm still waiting for Frogboy to comment on REAL PROBLEMS with the social spending problem instead of justing ignoring us. What Frogboy says is that wasted social production is in the game for two reasons: 1) Because anything else would encourage micromanagement. This is plain wrong, because of wasted social production I have to use the priority buttons and setting those for each colony ***is micromanagement***. On
