The best part of a game to me is the AI - does it pull the occasional trick? does it ever anticipate? does it do simple, yet effective, efforts at fighting - like concentrating forces and truly punishing you. What are people's opinion on the best AI in a war game? Please include some reasons why instead of just naming a game. That way, if I don't have it, I'll try it. Thanks!

I think Dark Avatar is better - Twilight will definitely be better if it is ever patched to a playable game. The problem with MOO2: plasma cannons. Plasma cannons were unstoppable - and whoever got them first started to rock socks. Other issues I remember where gigantanormous fleets. Now, don't get me wrong, many an hour (day, week, month...) was spent with MOO2 and it was an awesome game - but I feel Dark Avatar is balanced a bit better. The only thing I

1) Races often do improper research - many going far into the research tree without researching weapons (this often combines with the "surrender" option where an entire empire surrenders to another before almost any of their planets are taken or they make an attempt to defend) 2) Races do not expand properly - many staying gimped throughout the game - either by not expanding, or by expanding and then doing nothing with the planets or building enough ships to defend/attack 3) R

ToA has been out a long time overall. I was psyched to get this as it advertised diverse races and techs etc. But I'm finding that most of the game is a broken fiasco. It has disappointed me terribly as, until recently, I had thought highly of Stardock and thought of them as one of the few companies that actually cared about the consumer and wouldn't release what they knew was broken crap. I'm going to go back to playing Dread Lords - which feels a bit boring after see

I just played my first ToA immense map and was about to post "What is up with weapons research" when I saw this post.... my kinetic beams (1st beam weapons) took longer than high end tech to research - making the game quite strange. Is this specific only to ToA? If so, although it will suck to lose the diverse race tech trees, I will probably go back to DL since I want a competitive game more than anything without any cheating (I am not a guru of gaming, but like the AI and myse

So could someone explain the original poster's issue: high military with low planet development. I've seen the same with spies. I have planets that are MUCH better with 100% empire production and yet I have lower output in respective areas. I play on tough - meaning there should be an equal playing field. And I know for a fact that the AI knows where galactic resources are without seeing them on any AI level. Which is annoying in itself.

I made a race that uses the Drengin tech tree, has Super Hive Ability and can crank out a colony ship in 5-7 rounds (depends if I buy a factory or two at the start) .... I then immediately buy 2 factories and Starport on each planet I colonize - and usually have them cranking out ships within 10 turns or so apiece... YET, whatever race I'm near, doesn't matter which one, seems able to crank them out just as fast. I'm starting to wonder if the AI cheats? I don't see how eve

I've been trying to play as the Iconians but I don't see ANY economy options on their tech tree?!?! That is brutal. Am I missing something? They seem incredibly gimped when considering their starting bonuses, no soldiering on the tech tree and NO ECON??? ??

I LOVED the scope/feel of that game - the church, the guild, the dark savagery. But, the AI sucked (was nonexistant) and the game was riddled with bugs. But, it is a lot more do-able today. Sooooooo, Brad, ..... surely you have time to do it :) ? J

Hm. Nothing pithy to say. Impressive you built a $20 million dollar company - holy shite. You obviously care some what people say/think or you wouldn't have posted the whole topic - you would have just said fuck it. But ... I don't think it's wrong to care. I'm glad for Galactic Civilizations. I'm ecstatic the Stardock team are making a TURN BASED fantasy game. I'd pay $100 for some of the games the Stardock team has turned out. I hope your 60 employees ar

It's too bad espionage is so limited. Imagine this: based on the # of spies you would expend you could commit different acts. 5 spies = sabotage of 1 structure 10 spies = sabotage of 3 structures or lower moral significantly, or invoke a revolt 15 spies = bomb a planet and destroy 60-100% of everything on it 20 spies = bomb it and leave it's PQ permanently altered Something along these lines would actually make spies and espionage a

Thank you for the help and replies - I appreciate how open and kind (and patient!) people are here :) I will practice the opening - good suggestion. Getting a grip on the economics is difficult - so many small details it seems. I am constantly going into the yellow/red on cash flow... One question: do people build a starport on each planet so they can build ships everywhere or do you focus a few shipyards and send ships to defend planets? Another: on the specialized

I'm wondering why there has been no word from the devs ? (new to forums, so is that normal?) This, imho, is a game breaking bug... especially if you have focused on being a small(er) empire with high tech. :(

Okay, here are the broad strokes of my play style. I keep getting smashed. Would like any suggestions. I play: All options off except Tech Stealing. Common for everything, 0 minor races, very slow or slow tech. Gigantic or Immense galaxy. Right now I am trying to play the Terrans, ToA. Bonuses: Eco +30, Spd +10, Morale +15, Population +5, Military -10, Research +10, Diplomacy +30, Trade Route +1, Creativity, Logistics +6% I usually max m

Random events are ruining my games. In the last game, I was playing in an immense universe - I had mega-events off. Then, during the mid-game, an event spawned where all the tech in the universe was balanced out - so every civilization was given 3 techs by every other civilization. It's not fun. I enjoy the game b/c of strategy - not random roulette type events that screw with the balance of power to a disgusting degree. It is one thing to have one planet t

It seems there aren't a lot of official comments being posted lately.... I hope we hear from the devs. My games are getting more frustrating than fun. The tech trees/game initially seemed like an amazing improvement and game - but if they are so seriously broken it takes away the level-playing field you need to enjoy an immense game.

In my games I am noticing that the Thalans, in addition to rapidly consuming the known universe through colonization, field massively powerful small/medium ships. I am seeing small ships with 10 beam weapon ratings and mediums with much high. This should be impossible due to size constraints given that it is just leaving the first 3rd of the game and entering into the middle phase.... I've also noticed the Krynn rapidly expand and eat up people - I have yet to see a game w

The Thalans seem to go crazy every game I play - they are always huge (I play in immense galaxies) no matter what races are around them or what race I play and how fast I colonize. They easily take over 1/5th of the map every game I've played so far (4 games) .... anyone noticed this or can explain why? Just curious b/c it is getting old having the Thalans destroy the galaxy every game. J
