I am a previous purchaser of GC2 and the first expansion, but I've held off on getting Twilight after reading about the research bug, which apparently suddenly boosts research costs and looks like a potencial game-breaker for the large maps I like to play. Any word on if/when this is going to get fixed?

I'm using Stardock Central but when I click the "Update" button on the line that says "Dark Avatar (Expansion Pack) 1.50[Installed] 1.61.090[Available] 6/19/2007" it just brings up a browser and displays the GC2 downloads page, which only lists the full games for purchase. How do I get the 1.61.090 update?

Actually, let me correct myself: Comabt Has changed. Capital ships are now much more leathal... But the shoot first and kill everything before the other fleet can respond tactic was done away a long time ago. I give myself half credit I'm glad capital ships are more le

We had this question come up on our OO forum.... If you research Stellar Cartography you can see the planets on the mini-map (otherwise you only see the stars). The question is, does having more planets in a system increase the chance of a habitable planet, or is the percentage the same no matter how many planets there are? In other words, is it worth heading to a system with more planets because the odds will be better for it having a habit

This could be implemented in two ways (or both!) When building the 3D models in the ship designer, the color selection options for ships that you normally can only adjust when setting up the game could be altered and tied to a class. I'm wondering if this would cripple the 3D engine on the main map however.... Alternatively (and I like this <img src="http://images.stardock.com/gc2/T_DL/smiles/Wink.gif" border=0 ALIGN="absmiddle"

Actually I think it should be that as the game progresses the smaller ships become less valuable, even when grouped, versus the larger hulls. This makes it worthwhile to go to fewer and larger hulls. Otherwise on large maps you end up with swarms of small ships to track and upgrade. Making it worthwhile to upgrade, research bigger hulls and better weapons and higher overall techs also makes the later ("end") game interesting. Otherwise you just keep s

If you go to Sensor Mark IV you can build the Eyes of the Universe. Once built it will clear up any fog around your planets. The need for sensor ships will become moot. You can get it early if you have enough research labs because the turns are not that great for researching it. It's the way to go on

We plan to add a lot more goodies to the ship design screen so there are more options. All we can do is have it behave in the way that annoys the fewest number of people. Thanks Brad. I didn't want to sound like a whiner, but this change really did make it more work to play the game well. Perhaps I have an unusual play style. I tend

I posted the following in a thread on the main forum, but since it's related to the new patch it probably should go here. On the main forum it's already slipped near the bottom of page 2 in two hours and so probably will never be seen again! "I hate to be contrary, but I'm not so sure I like the new method of upgrades. Before when you selected "Upgrade" no components would be removed, but after the latest patch selecting "Upgrade" will remove all but the jewelry. Supposedly this was b

I hate to be contrary, but I'm not so sure I like the new method of upgrades. Before when you selected "Upgrade" no components would be removed, but after the latest patch selecting "Upgrade" will remove all but the jewelry. Supposedly this was because some people had difficulties finding and removing the non-jewelry and the linear strip (below the 3D window) that displayed the actually components was somewhat erratic. My problem is that sometimes I'm just doing an upgrade to, for i

I just got my retail pre-order GC2 which sadly was the vanilla. Since I previously had pre-ordered and bought the downloadable version I already have all the CE content, and now I have the printed manual. I don't really care about getting a printed tech tree, since I can print out my own from the BMP version that's been posted. What I would like to see is an official downloadable tech tree that is kept up to date. I have seen posts that mention there are some errors in the BMP version

"I ran the current site through a colour blindness filter and it seemed to do OK. The three kinds of link could be distinguished through brightness levels. Of course, it may not be a perfect simulation - are you colourblind yourself? If so, what parts are hard to see?" First of all, kudos for you for having used the filter! That's very thoughful. No, I'm not colorblind but I wo

My local EB Games called, said my pre-ordered GC2 is in. It is NOT the Collectors Edition, the clerk (who I know) is very certain about this. It's just the plain box just like their web page shows. So much for saying how all pre-orders would be Collectors Editions. I can't blame them, their page specifically shows the plain box. Oh, and no bonus "printed tech tree" either, he says they didn't get any customer bonuses for GC2 .

Score: 4.5 out of 5. Tagline quote: "It's Civ4 in space, but with a better end game!" Pro: ------------- - Very accessible 4X game in the style of MoO2. - New Ship Designer feature adds ability to customize ships with both gameplay components and pure eye candy; it's time to "pimp your ride"! - Galactic map when zoomed in has nice looking ships, planets and stars with really top notch graphics appeal, while a simple spin of the scroll wheel zooms out to a more t

I'm getting this message: "The serial number you have entered is not valid, or has not been activated. Please try again or contact support." It's the serial number I had Stardock Central send me. And I also used the one from the original Email they sent me, and I also used the one that Stardock Central displays when I selected my GC2 games registration info
