I know one of the updates in 2.0 would be to allow people to assign espionage agents to a civilization rather than a planet so that they can collect info and such without being at risk of being nullified (more like the Dread Lords espionage).
I think that's a great idea, and don't think it can happen soon enough (assuming you don't stop doing "free updates" after this weekend). And let Boogie have his real time models...that would be sweet
That's quite a loaded statement...
Yeah, there were some loaded statements in there, but let's all go ahead and give him a pass on pointing them out. They've been killing themselves trying to get 1.7 out the door, working simultaneously on TotA, and fantasy 4x, and the launch didn't go as swimmingly as they had hoped. We gamer's do get a bit myopic at times, and they were probably hoping for more of a "champaign" period after getting it ou
So wait...there's going to be a GC2v2.0? Isn't that technically GalCiv3 ? And isn't TotA really more like GC 2.5, since its going to play fundamentally differently with all the different tech trees? I dunno...I think you guys are flirting with some sort of temporal anomoly here. You'll destroy us all. BTW, I just re read your first post, and think it would be incredibly cool to have planetary improvements that are real time models. Fight on! Fiiiiiight!
So, um , anyways...did you guys see that Dumbledore was gay? How about that? Crazy stuff, huh...?
Hi! I'm wondering why the devs haven't fixed that. IMO because it's not a problem that needs to be fixed. There's no multiplayer, that would automatically penalize "good" players versus "evil" ones, it's just a player vs. AI. If he wants an easy win, he plays "evil". If he wants harder game, he chooses "good". That simple.
Mmmmmwellllll...I don't think it is quite that simple. It's true t
I'll pass this along, but Espionage is getting an overhaul in 2.0 to streamline it (making it more like Dreadlords).
Yay! Ding Dong the witch is dead! *dances a jig* I'll bet you weren't supposed to say that though Now there will be controversy...
Evil is better. There are some people who will try to make a case for Neutral being the best, but they are wrong. The 100 % econ bonus can be used to mimic or better the benefit from any other alignment. A double economy is just sheer unbridled power to do ...anything. That's on top of the game-ending psionic beam, free invasion techniques (more money for the pile), artificial slave center, and the fact you come out on top of every single planetary moral dilema. The advertised benefits for
No way. 1.8A definitely provides more habitable planets.
I believe it does, though the definition of "habitable" is in question. The *overall* map quality is fine, though point farmers on the metaverse may see a small decline in overall scores. I'm still encountering frequent problematic starting positions relative to the AIs. With the thalans, abundant settings, I just made 6 maps. 3 of which I was the only p
Memory Optimizations: Tweaked several areas to cut down on memory usage, and stomped out some glaring memory leaks, allowing lower-end machines to run gigantic galaxies more efficiently...
Here's a philosophical issue. Do we really need to so radically alter the gameplay we're used to over the last year+(re: nerfed planet count) to enable people to run gigantic maps on "low end machines"? Shouldn't people have reasonable expectations of their hardware? Do we need
Those look great, and look like great fun to make! Love the industrial cluster. I could make that stuff all day.(/envy).
Do you have to add something to the command line to get the cheat mode (like Ctrl-U) to work?
check the wiki, here: [link="https://www.galciv.wikia.com/wiki/Cheats_and_keyboard_shortcuts"]WWW Link[/link]
Map reveal is ctrl-u in a GC cheat-boot.
The maps I'm playing in 1.8a, as the thalans, abundant everything, scattered clusters, do show an improvement overall, however: 1) There is a demonstrable trend in poor player starting position relative to the other races. I dont know if it's intentional; I'm told it isnt...but this happens every time. For instance, in this map, the thalnas get a sector with their homeworld, and thats it. The sector every other race starts with has 3-5 worlds, some immediately inahbitable. 2
They just releasead 1.8a with more planets supposedly. Checking it out now...
I could actually live with the new planet counts IF: 1) The starting zone was on par with the rest of the map/enemy homeworld locations. There definitely seems to be a "screw the player" mentality in map generation this is too painful to play with at the current levels. 2) The role/presence of specialized colony tech worlds was greatly reduced or removed altogether. But they've balanced a lot of other stuff against these stupid things, so I don't know how they'd do that.
As far as rolling back, 1.7b4 had broken A.I., so if youre able to rollback, you'll want to go farther than that. What was the last version with a decent A.I.?
At this point, I would advocate an official rollback to V1.6 so people can play in the metaverse, and I would push the 1.8 changes into TotA, so they can benefit from the further testing that will be happening shortly for that
Since you're going to go evil anyway to get your MCC early on, the Psi Beam isnt really any more expensive to research..it's actually more like gravy. And the psi beam is in no way "overpriced". If anything it isn't costly enough, considering in many cases it represents an early game "technology victory". Sure, it might take your ships a few extra turns in the oven to get built, but once they are, you'll run over everything in your path. The other evil weapons arent even close. Once
Yeah, let's not roast SD here with kneejerk reactions...this is something that's different from beta 1.7b4, so I don't think it's intentional. Although, I am giving SD a wag of my finger for not releasing 1.8 for testing, where this issue would have quickly been apparent, prior to making it official. I feel bad for all those people who bought the game yesterday. As far as rolling back, 1.7b4 had broken A.I., so if youre able to rollback, you'll want to go farther than that.
Yeah, something's defintiely not right. Or, since I don't know what your intention is, something's definitely "different". On a large map, abundant everything, loose clusters, using the map reveal cheat, the map is nowhere near as habitable as it was in 1.7b4. It gets better the farther away you get from my homeworld, (though still not like it was on my last Large/abundant map), but the sector around my homeworld is a wasteland...not even the token class 6 "gimme" planet. So far
Yeah, I don't care for this at all. I started a large map with only "common" habitable planets, hoping to get a faster game in, only to find it felt more like a "rare" planet map, and the few that were close to my world required colony tech to inhabit. I quit and jacked the settings back up to "abundant" to try and get some worlds I can colonize. I'm glad we're getting a new game next week.
I quit my first 1.8 game for the exact same reason, and upped the planet count in hopes of getting some inhabitable planets. I've never enjoyed the colony tech aspects of the game, but it looks like there's no avoiding it now.
Yea, they broke my AI. Fixed it last night.
Yay! Every once in a while it's nice to get some evidence of being "not entirely crazy". Usually, it's the opposite.
