NO it is NOT just CD check! On the Bethesda board people are furious about not even being able to install the game due to SecuFuck probs with other running software like nero, process explorer, daemon tools etc. If you don't have those probs good for you. And no need to feel sorry. On the contrary. I can nothing but pity the folks who bought it, not knowing that it's not just CD checking,
I went with the pc version. Main Reason? Because of modding. If it is as nearly as moddable as morrowind or oblivion then I will spending 100s of hours playing it. I had initially bought morrowind and obivlion for the consoles..but after you beat the main quests and the downloadble content..there isn't much to do. I have almost 600 hours on oblivion just because of user created content. Bethesda games are much better buy for pc. Plus 10 bucks cheaper? Come on.
</

The depth, scope, and polish of the game as an RPG and RPG gameworld is breathtaking. I cant stress how immersive the environment and story is. It has to have one of the best intro sequences in video game history that sucks you immediately in. Which is why its all the more frustrating that there appears to be the typical ill considered/seemingly untested Bethesda gameplay dumbing-down present. VATS is far too effective. IM a third of the
Why is DRM such a divisive issue? I dislike coconut more than you dislike DRM, but I don't go around giving recipes that contain coconut one star reviews.
Your analogy is highly flawed. 1) I dont think you actually do dislike Coconut more than I dislike the newest form of Securom, even if the consumption of coconut was *lethal* to you. 2)Comparatively speaking, coconut in food dishes is a much mor
Always gore.
This simply isn't true, my rantastic friend. I cite the other video showing death by Teddy Bears launced at deadly velocity from the rocket launcher. Although if I remember, they did, in fact, dislodge some body parts. But they were fuzzy and adorable while doing it!
And, unfortunately, the same voice actors from Oblivion and Morrowind.
The voice actors were fine. The only problem was there were just too few of them, recycled for too many different characters. And only a couple of the voices were familiar. There are voices in those vids never heard in Oblivion.

If you havent seen the new Fallout 3 gameplay vids posted this week, you really need to check them out. It would be easier than me trying to explain how awesome they are. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HUI0Up4AiQw&fmt=18 http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wcrRM97DzRI&fmt=18 <a href="http://www.youtube.com/watch
In other cases, it would be OEM and/or MS policies that mean that a new box comes with neither OS-only media nor a contractual obligation to help the owner restore the hardware to an OS-only condition.
Ouch. Well, I suppose if you must buy a Dell or an HP, make sure to pick up a Windoze disk and do your own installation. Its perfectly simple, just mind numbingly boring. But then you have peace of mind, and aren't tied to a single machine

Maybe its possible my economy just isnt very good. Like I said, depending on race, by midgame, in TA, Im usually making between 300 and 1000 Bc a turn. By end game this is usually 1000-1500 a turn. Without Mind Control Center econo cheese, I considered this a productive and successful economy. But I have never seen anything like what Loupdinour reports with triple digits in the spy pool, and a sustained one week creation time, nor have I s
This point of view also ignores the admittedly fuzzy "cost" of letting an enemy gain intel levels against you. I have no idea how serious the matter is in terms of hard game mechanics, but my role-playing side can't stand letting barbarians build spy webs that might eventually steal our techs.
Agree. My roleplaying instincts will simply not allow my worlds to crawl with red hats on sheer principle, the tech stealing issue completely aside. Its
Also to note on the comment of leaving the stock exchange alone, a military crawls on it's pocket book. If you gimp a race's economy enough so that their income no longer can support the running costs and maintenance of their ships and they hit a perpetual -500bc, you just haulted all their military production...time for a monkey-stomping war.
Again. Scale. On a small map where a civ has 2 or 3 worlds at most, you could maybe pull this off. O

I build my own machines, so this isnt an issue. Even if I did something silly like buy from Dell though, what's to prevent someone from just formatting the drive and reinstalling Windows? Surely thats within the capabilities of most users. Then you're only left with the standard Microsoft bloat, which is frankly a much bigger concern.
I'm also hoping to see some radical changes in this area for 2.0--we need clear distinctions between counterespionage, espionage, and sabotage.
I would also like to see a researchable espionage tech tree, that increases or provides options for espionage efficacy, like every other aspect in the game. The Krynn would of course start further along and with inherent bonuses and superior techs availiable. But every race should be able to tech up fo
I don't think i have ever built a CE center.Even for the morale boost. I wouldn't have even noticed it gone. At most I've had one or two AI spies that i couldnt get rid of imediately. I understand that its possible to have a few other races attack you at the same time; but even then, how many spies are we talking about? I would go so far as to call it a game ender or that the race can't be played. For those races you'd have to change up your strategy and have a larger pool of spie
Except exterminating the other races who's spies maybe placed there. Both the Dregin and Korath are ment to be an agressive race. The Korath especially, due to their spore ships, they also have no defense once the orbital fleet is gone. Those two races were not meant to be played as a 'turtling' race. Kill everyone else and there will be no spies.
In other words, "win the game". Brilliant.

So I've finally gotten around to checking out the new expansion. For the most part Im enjoying it...the unique tech trees add a whole new dimension to play. I've played a few races now, enjoy the extra depth, and wish the game could have come out of the gate like this. Thanks to the Devs for continuing to expand the game. However, I had gotten around to the Korath, was about a third of the way through a medium map game...was enjoying their tech tree, a
But that will serve as the code basis for any further GalCiv II updates. Right now, the team is working on the "unnamed fantasy strategy game" sometimes called "not-MOM" (not Master of Magic). It's a totally new graphics engine that makes use of multi-core CPUs and GPUs but will still run fine on lower end hardware thanks to built-in detection that will determine "how much stuff" to display in real-time. Microscopic white text on Black Background....capillaries bursting...eyes bleeding... I wouldnt have thought it possible that the forums could have been any more difficult to read than they already were, but the even smaller text seems to have done the trick. I do apreciate Stardock's continued efforts to improve the community experience though. Some visual issues I was having when I viewed the site in Opera seem to be fixed, and performance seems decent.

I havent played vanilla Galciv in quite a while, and Ive never played the campaign, but I dont recall being able to build 8 small ships in the same amount of time as a single medium, or even a large, unless the smalls are vastly underequipped compared to the cap ship. If you upgrade to the current official game version (DA), and play some sandbox games, you'll find pretty much the opposite is true. Cap ships eat entire fleets of small ships for breakfast due to the new combat system, a

I find myself with the time and inclination to revisit this little project. Changed the thread title to something more fitting, and not drengin-specific. Next up is the Korath ClanReaver. If anyone is at all interested, here's the concept sketch I doodled up. The idea is that they're sort of rabidly evil, death-worshiping "Necro-Drengin". They wear these armored "siphon suits" that make use of their "lifeforce to energy" tech to power fearsome personal weapons in combat, like this
