I know the word on the street is that the game doesn't cheat but I find the AI is almost always ahead in every way at least initially and I play very aggressively. They also seem to magically know where the best planets and resources are. I've seen their colony ships take bee lines through fog of war to such planets and resources

Sorry, I don't follow jargon. WTF is a 4X gamer? Where I live 4X is a brand of Beer. Does it mean a sad & lonely person with no friends who wastes all weekend playing sim/conquest games to sooth their ego and make them feel like they're accomplishing something with their impotent & inefectual lives? Burn your PC and get a real ho
Personally I found MOO3 to be a Click Next Turn button game. To each his own, although I really fail to see why anyone would post a comparison between 2 different games on the official forum of one. It's something I might do on a forum with a group of gamer friends which is not specialised for one game.
I think it's powerful but not overpowered. In terms of cost and size it is only a little more overall than the others. It gets beaten by evil weapons and can be defended against by good defences. I like it where it is but I agree it would be nice to see the other weapons get something like this - an expensive but powerful weapon.
Don't know what copy of the game you're playing, but, the damn AI races QUICKLY came over and started stealing newly opened up resources when the Iconians were put out of the game. I had my eye on this nice MORALE resource too that I needed badly and the damn Drengin got it. Quickly is a very relative
Lazarous - he was basing that on having equal miniaturisation tech.... not necessarily taking into account any racial abilities. Furthermore, if the Drengin had picked up any in game bonus to miniaturisation, it would be in their racial report.
No, "it's got to be balanced" is not unnecessary. It adds to the gameplay, maintaining a standard of fairness that sets GalCiv2 apart from every other game I can think of. If you don't care for a level playing field, that's fine. A lot of people who bought this game do, especially considering that a non-cheating challenging AI is so unique. Different races start with diffe
Ok Spearchucker, that is completely unnecessary. One of the really nice features of this game is that the AI doesn't cheat; that it is bound by the same rules as the player. That makes a win or a loss a lot more meaningful, because you earned it either way. All this "damnit, it's a game" garbage doesn't hold water. Of cour
Well, that means it isn't balanced, which makes it unfair.....there is something that needs tweaking. If the AI don't need it, we shouldn't need it. ARGH! It is so incredibly unfair that it will totally imbalance the game and the devs should change the way thing works to ensure that
In response to Spearthrower: "You still have to go conquer his planets ultimately if you want to win by any other way than tech victory. Once you move outside your web of death, all the time and investment is gone..." Indeed, but by the time I move out of my Web of Doom, his entire military is gone too, so it's a fair t
Really? I'd hate this. Part of my strategy involves use of starbases all over my empire (often many more than 3 per sector). I guess I'll have to adapt... Actually, the AI already has to follow this rule, so it's more a case of doing what they have to do. If you think about it, you could still use you
Spearthrower don't you think that doing too much compromises with yourself means that something is wrong? . I dont know Marioflag - you tell me! If I dont feel the need to know this stuff, yet manage to simultaneously play and win and enjoy the game while people trying to figure out what's under the
I have mostly played Terrans. They are not in anyway underpowered. For a start, you can customise all abilities yourself so you can make them what you want them to be. On colonisation, it is far more the players skill than the racial abilities (although these do help) - on larger maps I always start by research down the engine route and have an upgrade Coloniser for each step. I always massively outcolonise the other AI by at least double playing on To
Take a look at the Drengin's abilities in the Report. Maybe he has a miniaturisation bonus.
People sure talk about these rangers alot! Makes me wonder how slow they develop. On masochistic 5 people had rangers (including my 5, high luck) not a single one saw service because they were antique rather quickly. Does everyone play on slow tech? I gave 7 rangers to the torians to make them "close" and win the game, this is th
Just replying so you dont feel ignored! Yes, I have seen this too.
I disagree. A farm tile means you will require a multimedia tile to maintain the morale of that planet. I believe the balance is about 3 entertainment for every 2 farms (with no extra morale abilities/resources). Further to that, the last building in the run of entertainment adds an array of bonuses - including some morale. Someone did write an analysis a week or so ago.... but I dont bother minmaxing stuff like this so I mostly skim read it. It was ba
No. Wonders and Capitals should be placed upon an open tile.
BTW I'm sure i remember them saying that a minor race could become a major one. What exactly was meant by that? Probably that, if left alone, and given the right conditions, so
They do realise they are there, they just dont react quickly enough. It's kind of like that they have left the colonisation mode and just can't flip back to it. Perhaps they've obsoleted all their colony ship designs and spend the next year trying to design a cool looking one!! I've noticed this happening with resources too. At the beginning of t
Of course, we're not truly good in that case =P Sometimes you've got to be cruel to be kind...... tough love and all that!!
One thing though, if you're playing as a good civilization then the opposite strategy is better. Heh... if I am playing as a Good civ and I get a 40%PQ planet bonus.... I just go and say some Hail Mary's later! <img src="http://images.stardock.com/gc2/T_DL/smiles/Wink.gif" border=0 ALIGN="absmi
Spearthrower's Guide to Relaxed and Enjoyable Play "I keep trying to make sense of this game, but the numbers are all messed up." Forget numbers and play... it aint a calculator! "* A number of the racial abilities / bonuses do not work as advertised." Even if they dont work as it says, they do still give you something
Good point!
1) its offten the most overlooked custom build because its too easy just to use the provided scout,(which is only realy good for sweeping the map IMO) but most people dont think that its worth the risk to put up a single 1 hit hull as a sensor platform, Bascialy the game mechanics dont diferentiate between a 1 hit platform and a
