I'd just like to say that if the espionage was to be given an active role (actually doing something instead of simple info gathering) you need strong counter-espionage options as well. Otherwise espionage would be far too powerfull. That said, your spies could incite a revolt or just lower the happyness on a planet so that more people would join you in the informational war (invasion).

I agree. I also think it would be nice if the tech screen would give more info about the advantages it brings.

I've had an ally surrender to me while (both) being at war with a third party. Reading the posts above it seems as though it was a stroke of luck.

I think the planetary defenders should ALWAYS be a fleet. The AI throws so much resources into defending fleets (while a human player mostly constructs mobile fleets of interceptors) that it should at least have that advantage. And if the planetary infrastructure doesn't allow the coordination of troops you're very likely NOT in the space age at all. Anyway, planet defenders should always be fleets AT LEAST in the ammount allowed by the logistic.

I only have one AI line-of-thought comment. I've told it long ago already, but what the hell. Even when there are multiple strong civs and you are weak, everybody wants a piece of you. Right now I'm kinda weak and almost everybody declared war on me, although there are others much more threathening. What I would want to see is that when a civ has a serious contester it tries to USE your civ to help it destroy that contester. Declaring war on you and attacking you is usually

Chess programs are NOT able to make sacrifices. They are able to compare the situation to an already seen one and than act appropriately. Chess programs are the least intelligent ones, they are hard to beat simply becouse of the massive number of info on the former games of chess masters they have. I'm not certain about Deep-Blu though, failry sure about the normal chess programs. There are numerous ways of thinking, by the way. The AI opponent could be thinking that perhaps it's bett

IMO the defences aren't the way to win the war (especially since they only work on 1/3 occasions). What they ARE great for is giving you an edge in a particular war. So that your ships get better and better against a certain civilisation that developed such and such weapons. In this role they are definitely worth the price.

While I think the races are quite ok I dislike the fact that they all like the same planets. Ok, perhaps most planets are uninhabitable to all of them, but the inhabitable planets shouldn't be the same for all. Perhaps a level 17 planet for Yor should be a level 11 for Humans becouse of the difference between the races (breathing atmosphere etc.). What I'm saying is that the diversity between the races has little effect on the gameplay. You can play all races exactly the same althoug

2: One exception: your rule only applies when all ships had full hit points before combat. Yes, true. But still, when all the ships are at full health, only one is damaged at the end... <T

Just to see if I'm getting things correctly; 1) There is no running away in GC2? One fleet is always destroyed completely? 2) Juding from the attack system (whole fleet attacking one ship until it is destroyed); the winning fleet will always have only one damaged ship - the last one to be attacked by the enemy fleet before they were utterly destroyed? 3) Additions to the ship don't change the to-be-chance of the ship, even when they make it a much bigger target?<

Page 57: If you play as the humans, the AI gets an additional advantage - they know where all the planets are. Humans don't start... It was explained this is now changed and nobody has any informations.

Then I will ask a very stupid question: can intelligent life appear and live in an air with methane? Can you think of a reason why not? If ANY life can appear in such atmosfere, why not an intelligent one in time? And we have environments on Earth teeming with life that aren't much different from such a planet.

I really don't see a point to those cinematic battles. Interesting... Here I was trying to push for a much better battle viewer (Nexus style) and didn't even realise some don't wish to watch them at all... IMO seeing battles is great, but hey, each has his own preferences. Othe

The Church was already paid by the alcohol and bread industry. That's why you have Bread and vine as Christ's body and blood. If the tobacco industry pays enough, you'll get Christ's spirit in churces as well, embodied as "holy smokes". This is no debate for GC2 forums.

Yes, combat is in the game, it was never a question. The "problem" (not really) is what kind of combat. How it is performed, viewed and calculated. Really, if you would have checked the Nexus movie I gave link a few posts above you'd SEE what I'm talking about. And don't get me wrong, Nexus also uses rolls to a certain effect; how much damage a shot will make isn't always the same. But the "chance to hit" is presented by the beam/topedo/whatever ACTUALLY hitting or missing an enemy's

But people like me, and there are a lot of us, have relatively few games that are about strategic skill. That is, the ability to build an empire or civilization or combat force and direct them into action. Galactic Civilizations is about strategic victory, not tactical prowess. That doesn't mean that you SHOULDN'T want the battles to look nic

I don't mind the roll itself. I agree with Alexander000 that the roll is here to represent the unpredictable - lets say you can hit a ship where it has no vital systems and do little damage or hit a vital system and criple the ship with the same ammount of energy used. So I guess the roll is here to represent this. I mind the turn based nature of the fight. Turns have consequences; all the weapons have the same reload time, all the weapons will attack one ship etc.. I know

Pheeee, the more I read about GalCivII, the more ideas/questions I have... These are purely warfare ideas, so I've put them into the appropriate forum. 1) Does the SIZE of the hull have any impact on the probability to be hit? To use another way to ask; is a smaller ship harder to hit? Since GCII uses dice rolls this could be reflected in a smaller roll for a smaller ship. 2) An even better system would be to "burden" the weapons AND ships with a roll weight. A s

This sounds phenomenal! Now that I've read all (edit) four AI articles I can say I'm definitely impressed... But one question I must ask; if I have a low end computer, will the high end AI slow it down but the computer will still process it as it should or will that make the high end intelligence impossible? My point is that I don't mind waiting a bit for a better challenge, as long as it comes in the end. It's a TB game after all, not a click fest. <img src="smiles/Congrats.gif" bo

I didn't find this info anywhere, so I'm asking. I've read about the bonuses/penalties for the diplomatic relations with other races being dependant on your ethical standings, on your military superiority etc.. That's IMO a great system. The question is whether a newly met alien race automatically gets these bonuses and penalties at the moment you've met them or are first contacts not burdened with this and the standing change accordingly to your knowledge on their race and

Firstly, a VERY nice hello to you all. Secondly, don't be alarmed - I didn't come to flood the forum. I read mostly all I was able to find on Galactic Civilisations 2 and quite some on the first iteration (that I didn't play). I'm also one of those who suffered incredible dissapointment becouse of MoO3. When i read about Galciv II I was surprised to find exactly what I was missing. Now, to make this story short; I like mostly all I read about this game and only have one question; has
