I hope the goverment will learn the problems of this system. Now I plan on spending 5 years at college learing about software developement the going out to Plymouth, Michigan so that I can work for Stardock. I've always wanted to work on Galciv 3.
heh, a very admirable goal. though one thing i'd say is that the way these things are isn't entirely the fault of the government. our general culture and especially parenting styles play a big role. most parents just bark "you

that's interesting loup. my school district had tried to do something similar, but it was in a very low-income area and most students couldn't realistically attend the school that was best-suited for their interests. the schools were originally meant to be grouped into orientation towards future professions. one school was supposed to be oriented towards mechanical and manual work, another towards technology, another towards health sciences, and finally one towards entrance into high-profile
Also I was reading this http://news.yahoo.com/s/time/20081107/us_time/shouldkidsbeabletograduateafter10thgrade and I not sure it's good news or bad news.
interesting article, seth. i personally feel that is somewhat bad news. many other countries have an education system that allows individuals to opt-out of cursory education in favor or vocational training at around age 16; in fact, we're one of the few industrialized countries without such a system. the proble

LOL you know i've never had bacon in a caesar. i usually opt for chicken or salmon, but i'll have to try that out. i do love bacon though. mmmm... bacon. i started watching Weeds again last night. in the 3rd or 4th episode, the main character realizes she's been peddling ditch weed because she suddenly can't move it anymore. so she makes a bunch of infused confections (green cornbread, fudge, popcorn balls...). dammit it made me hungry! i think i might have to make a mess of the kitch

for chrissakes, how f***ing hard is it to make a caesar salad? romaine, parmesean, croutouns, dressing. what did i get in my "caesar" salad? iceburg, what seem to be steamed bell peppers, mozzerella, croutouns, and dressing. frak i'm having a bad day.
omething more to talk about...anybody else see that they are attempting to make a Wheel of Time MMO?
an old frined of mine is/was very much into TWoT chronicle. has that guy finished writing them yet? also, there's a d20 campaign setting based on TWoT.

hope you feel better soon seth. you're probably too young for a hot toddy, but they're great for sore throats (black tea, honey, lemon and whiskey or some other liquor). garggling with salt water's also good... i guess. for your nose, take hot showers and try to keep the water on your face (sinuses) as much as you can, it'll help clear the gunk out.

...still waiting for definite results on prop 8, the gay marriage ban. i'm staying optimistic, as the obama lead surged to 61% overnight. i'm hoping that means the more liberal districts hadn't been counted in the more recent exit polls. should no in a few hours. though i just found something. the prop is passing at 94% reporting with a 4 point lead. can't say i'm happy about that.

well i've mostly kept quiet for this discussion, but hey why not throw my two pents in? nielo and SB have already heard a bit about my own views on voting. before i say anything else, i sent my absentee ballot in last week. in my case i felt the most important thing i voted on was prop. 8, the initiative to change california's constitution effectively banning the right for people to marry others of the same sex. i've lived in california for every presidenttial election i've been
Thanks Dys...I didnt do anything with my character today. When I'm sick, creative thinking seems to be severely impeded, blech.
like i said, no worries. incidentally, if you have any gems of house rules you really like, feel free to suggest them.

i use tight clusters, myself. there is a way to reduce the number of uncolonized habitable planets that you might be overlooking.

no worries KP. i'll be doing the standard 6 scores of 4d6 dropping the lowest roll each time for abilities, plus one floating re-roll (you can make the substitution after seeing the result of the roll). only significant house rule planned as of yet will be the rules for reducing level adjustments outlined starting on page 18 of Unearthed Arcana. if you draw on rules from other supplimental rule books, let me know (mostly so i can be sure to review the rules myself).

i do think lolcats are like roflcopters, actually. i don't know about timing, though you may be right. at the moment we're looking at saturday evening (for the n. america east coat & midwesterners). that'll be sat. afternoon for me and sunday morning for neilo. so far we don't have any europeans playing, which is in many ways a good thing because it'd probably become impossible.

we should all be so lucky, motti. if cheap candy and bad costumes aren't your thing you could also eat some tuna. don't ask me why, it just works. [e digicons]o_O[/e]

HAPPY HALLOWEEN! I wanted to take a moment to wish my fellow tyrants and other visitors a happy and safe Halloween! Halloween, or All Hallow's Eve, is, as you may know, the day when God-fearing Westerners believe the tormented spirits of saints return to the Earth to prey on the eternal souls of physically and mentally healthy c

my pleasure! feel free to offer any input you'd like, whether or not you're interested in playing. having a seasoned pair of seasoned eyes could be useful. btw, LZ, if you want to contribute to our discussion so far (well, by discussion i mean mostly me talking about how the game works), feel free. if nothing else you could (re-)introduce yourself to the other players we have so far (silverbeacher, DethAdder and neilo).

i'm actaully happy about all of this. i hate the department and the position. working with grad students is great, but the office culture is sad. so... 1) i get to apply for other jobs now and say my reason for leaving is that the position is a bad fit 2) i get a strong reference from my supervisor 3) the department gets to fire me and re-open the position without having to wait for the hiring process, which in most cases takes months 4) i get to claim

i pissed off a faculty while she was very stressed *cough*bitch*cough*, which in a university will incur the wrath of god against you. but the real deal breaker was that i said i'd look for other positions. they're firing me so they don't have to wait to replace me (which seems stupid, since i still know this job better than someone completely new).
