I think it would be useful to exchange diplomacy strategy tips. Main questions that arise are: 1) How do you pick your allies and enemies and why? 2) Does this depend on the kind of victory you aim for (diplomatic, conquest, cultural)? 3) Do you change allies and enemies often in the game or do you stick to them (I guess loyalty is rewarded, no?) 4) How does your diplomatic strategy relate to your military and economic strategies? 5) Anything you wish t

Hi, Good post and intelligent questions. I like to have some variation in my fleets. There is good information on the galciv2 wiki, in particular on weapons choices and ship combat. You should read it. I, however, prefer to have mixed fleets, irrespective whether it is efficient or not. It just feels more fun and realistic (like in scifi movies, tv series). I don't find it annoying that big ships take long to build. It should be that way in my opinion. Try to specialis

In the galaxy set up menu you can select custom maps. But the menu doesn't tell what the various maps will look like. Where can you find this kind of information? For example, how do I know what the custom map "Struggle" will look like?

Welcome to this great game! For new players I would suggest to first visit the Galciv2 wiki , which is a very good source of information. In addition, I would go the strategy part of this forum and read some of the excellent posts there. Perhaps go back in time a bit to see discussions when the game was just released to see how everyone discused the beginners issues. In addition the developers have also written some pieces with advice. They shouldn't be so hard to find. Finally, there are som

I use the newest version of the browers of Google, but since today I'm having problems to login on the galciv2 and sins forums (I fill in the two forms, but nothing happens). It works with IE8. But I prefer to keep using Google Chrome. Any solutions?

Thanks a lot. I will try them. I would appreciate some more opinions (although yours was very substantive) and suggestions for other games.

I am looking for some variation in play and am trying out various games. I would like to find a nice 4x rts space game. SOTS is not my thing, it has too much ship designing and tactical combat options. Armada 2526 just came out, but has no reviews yet and seems to be buggy. Now I've found that Civ4 has a "civ4 in space" mod, called final frontier. See also: http://www.firaxis.com/community/bts_finalfrontier.php and

I just a bought a new and quite cheap one. The Sansa clip. It's very popular and has a nice clear screen. It's much better than the Ipod shuffle and nano. It has great sound quality (far better than any Ipod, especially if you buy a good headphone/earphone set) and the battery life is also fine. The best thing is that you don't need Itunes to synchronise your music. Give it a try I would say. It's also so cheap that you don't have to worry about losing or damaging it.

I find it quite strange that there are no reviews available of this game. I hope they come soon.

I was wondering if any of you have tried the new game Armada 2526? It seems very promising. I like that the game focuses a lot on macro management and quick play instead of coping with tedious micro management and long ship battles and ship designing aspects (various weapon types etc..). I also like it because it is tbs instead of rts like Sins. It will be better playable on laptops as a result (I presume). Unfortunately, there are no reviews available yet. Only a preview of IGN. That's why I

I don't like the micro management type of RTS games (although StarCraft was great). I would vote for Sins, Rome TW and Homeworld (I should really install that game again, does it work with Vista?). Supcom looks nice, but is also lots of micro management and is incredible system resource consuming (why can't they fix that?). Any good RTS games coming up soon?

Interesting survey on Lifehacker. The new Microsoft anti malware is very popular. Maybe I should try that one. Go to: http://lifehacker.com/5399564/five-best-antivirus-applications

After going through a full installation of windows and all my software etc that took me almost a full day, I want to be protected, but not too much so as to have enough system resources for playing games. What security software do you recommend for anti-virus and anti-malware? Which ones do you use? Does the browser you use make a lot of difference? Is Google Chrome better than IE8? Thanks for your kind advice!

I agree Shift seems a good game. Now I just have to get a steering wheel, because with a keyboard it's too difficult and less fun.
battles just don't interest me
Same for me. Might be interesting to watch, but I don't like thinking about it too much. Just give me the strategic and diplomatic choices.
