On the other hand, he does make a point about the people not really caring of the grossly immoral actions you can do in the game, while freaking over the top for some boobs. Come on, to think that The Dark Knight has a rating of 13+? That's the same rating than The Golden Compass!!! So, making a fairy tale about Church being evil is on same scale of immorality and traumatism-inducing to the children than seeing a guy having his cheek cut open, hospital blown up, and a guy with

On the other hand, off course, it should be completely disallowed to allow these AI to "cheat". The whole point is to improve intelligence, not game features to make the game more challenging...

All right, I think everybody can agree here that GalCivII's AI engine is one the best around the video game industry. It's.. political, it thinks, and can sometime out-strategize you. Even if you have the edge more than often on tactical level, they can beat you soundly merely with general strategies. However, it is not perfect. I am sure that AI development is extremely time- and energy-consuming for Stardock, and even if they have the best around, sometime it does something really s
Sadly, the only "priorities" pirates have is to steal from hard working people, and whine and cry about the prices of completely unnecessary products, as if they're hard done by.
Perhaps, but we don't really care about them. A company should aim at making the maximum money possible. THAT is their priorities, THAT should be their priorities. On the balance sheet at the end of your quarter, there is not place to show "only 10% of our users used pirated copies! We a
I like your thinking on this, but what's the balancing factor?
What do you mean? The Human develops their demography 10 time faster than the elves (maybe ever more), what would take 5 turns for a human to build a military unit, it would take 200 for the Elves! But off course, one defensive elven military unit could easily hold back 15 primitive humans. Same with the dwarves. They are limited in their way of expansions (only mountains, for example). At first, they

After some practive, I managed to crush minor races around my core territories, establishing a mighty empire that always seems more hungry.. Nice game. I hate the turn-limit on the demo, however..

I tried the demo so far, and I'd have to say I have difficulties mastering the game process.
Stop ruining PC gaming!
I'd say it's not the pirates ruining the gaming. It's the developpers who aren't targetting the right customer base, or the fancy anti-piracy system (that doesn't work) that can make the game itself unenjoyable.
Yep. Looks like he purchased the original Lost Empires (which by most accounts is indeed a somewhat flawed game). It's too bad that he wasn't paying attention and didn't wait another couple days for the *new* game to be released.
On the other hand, his criticisms of Lost Empire (the first one) is probably valid. The more the pity, because I heard that, indeed, L.E. was really flawed from the start. I really find it a bad thing that the developper left their buyin
Cikomyr, an Indie game does NOT mean simply low-end graphics. An Indie game means that there are multiple bugs, spelling mistakes, horrific UI which seems like it was pre-made with a fold and someone amateurishly glued text on it and more, while the maps and ships look like they are made from placard. This is not a retail game where only a few bugs here and there are apparent. I cannot exactly describe to you what Indie game actually means, I guess you will have to see for yourselves. Ima

oh ****!!!! This game looks awesome! The simul-turn feature is something I CRAVED ever since Birth of the Federation, and the Military Doctrine looks like the idea I gave to stardock a few years ago! And to say, I don't care about low-end graphics, if the game itself is pure awesome

indeed. And I understand you, Sethpenguin. Been there too, but don'T worry. As you'll grow up, you'll either begin to understand the appeal of low-cerebral games, or you will find peoples who appreciate the same kin of games than you do. We all belong somewhere, we just don't have the chance to begin there.

This idea has been nagging in my head for years. I've played Age of Wonder II, I've played other Fantasy RTS games, and while I've enjoyed the experience a lot, there is something.. that lacks. How it is that when you play the elves, you start at the same time than the humans. You start at the same level technologically / technically than the humans? It's not logical. in typical fantasy, elves have been around for MILLENIA when the first human kingdoms started cropping around. Same th

Companies should not be trying to make pirating harder. On the whole, this simply causes trouble for the paying customers, who are often upset about the thousand copy protections around the game they PAID. Here is a link to Shamus's Young blog about piracy, and I think he makes a pretty darn good point [link="http://www.shamusyoung.com/twentysidedtale/?p=1558#more-1558"]Shamus Young's Twenty Sided Dice[/link] Look at Stardock's policy toward pirating. Draginol, here is a comment I found on a website about exactly the same article:
I find I really like the way Stardock has handled the issue with Sins of a Solar Empire. No copy protection but you also won’t get updates until you use a valid non-duplicated serial number. I did in fact pirate this game, played for 2 hours (too caught up to stop at the 1 hour mark), loved it and bought it online with the download option. Went to download it via their download manager and it detecte
Yes, KOTOR 2 and NWN 2 were both unfinished and extremely buggy. But I heard the NWN 2 expansion/patches make it much more playable (haven't played the expansion though).
Here is one of the video game axiom that every dev should learn: A game should not be enjoyable only after mod/patch/expansion have been downloaded/bought. Why? Because if they actually rush to sell the game, the people who will buy it more for christmas (the ACTUAL target of the rushi

The same company produced both NWN2 and KOTOR2, both un-finished, buggy and poor ending games. Both sequels to a game that left it's mark. Bioware (I think is the name of the guilty company) should be forbidden to make any sequel again.
