Companies tend to make games on SciFi/Fantasy shows but really dont look too much into games from books unless some company makes a movie out of them. I sometimes wonder why since there are lots of stories with a wealth of background material and even some books with a good following of readers in which some are gamers too :CONGRAT: . There are two series which I believe can make a very good strategy game. They have a wealth of background information and the setting is perfect for

Instead of repeating myself, here ya go. Check out the link, reply to AI cheating... Link Like Eirikr says...its like comparing a vw bug with the space shuttle... They both take you places, but there are lots more to calculate in a space shuttle than a bug.
At challenging, the AI does not cheat. This topic has been discussed unto death, but here goes. AI on gigantic maps can be easily beaten in the colony rush phase. From Tough to Painful (forgot that one Norad), I can beat the AI in colony rush and beat them in research even though they get a bonus in Painful - yes I know a small bonus.. working my way up slowly, no time to play <br
Research the weapon tech that no AI is researching. Still playing with a 1.1 generated game but using 1.11 patch, 9 AIs - 8 was using missile and 1 using laser... I researched Mass Drivers. The AI researches the defense tech of the weapon it uses. From there, it only researches the defense tech of a weapon it encounters. So, if you use the same weapon tech as the AI, the AI has an active defense. Or if you are using a weapon of the minority of AI, the others m
Make sure the default is selected. The problem is that the button is kinda greyed out so hard to see until you click on it to make that char your default.
You need to look at the different races diplomacy stance to each other. If they are cool, its easier and cheaper to buy them to attack. Its much better than before when little amounts of cash would set a race on another. Now you have to look at... Your diplomacy skill Asking races military versus target race Asking races diplomacy stance to target race.
No reason to build a economic structure on a morale bonus. Think of it this way, a 100% morale bonus basically doubles the bonus of the morale building. You can have 2 farms with it. At end game thats 20B additional pop versus a single bonus from the econ building. I do use econ buildings on the influence tiles since stock markets have some influence.
Trick that I'm trying to use on getting high pops.... Many posts here talk about using using transports to move pop off of a planet and keep morale high. Take those transports as you build to invade and park them in orbit around a high pop capable planet. As you build up your invasion forces, it increases the population of select planets since the increase is a percentage of the total current population. It works great if you can have several high pop worlds on yo
Look at the hull size of the ranger That is a battleship. It's just called a ranger instead of battleship.
Really no reason for a mobile factory. If you really want to bring a ship to a location fast, just make high speed ships. Still, you dont need defenders on planets... Just have enough fleets to control the space around the invasion zone. Fan out from there with enough fleets to invade and guard entry into newly conquered planets. Add Hunter fleets to take out any Transports. Since there is no bonus for having a ship guarding a planet (like in Civ), no re
There are random events that occur in which a "ranger" class starship is found. (there are other designations depending on size of ship) Old precursor technology. It various from fighters to a battleship. The AI does not cheat until painful and above. Since its a random event - in which luck helps -, any of the AIs or player may get one or more during a game. Weakness - slow slow slow. High dmg with armor defense only.
Really dont understand the hatred for the farm bonuses.... I have PQ22 and 36 planets with farm bonuses that I use and looking at 75B and some smaller planets with farm bonuses at 95B... though its still growing slowly around 22 to 40B on them. Even have a planet with 61B working its way to 75. Its not hard to manage high pop planets making lots of bc. Control the tax slider and when your making lots of bc, you dont need tax set as high for spending to be at 100%.
Yeah, Nicely worded... I just hate that auto focus, gigantic maps, lots and lots of ships....gah!!!! Been noticing most of whats been pointed out except for rally points - dont use them. Main ones to fix for me - no auto focus and no auto scroll in planet/ship/colony management screen.
Mindblank, You should try gigantic with abundant with 9 races. The AI works best with lots of resources versus few. Playing painul with abundant on gigantic and none of the races had any problems expanding.
The gigantic maps are so fun but take sooo long... Giganic, abundant everything, 9 races, tech trading off, loose clusters, painful .. working my way up and this is the first painful game. Currently over 4trillion pop and have 4 enemy races left owning half the galaxy in my 6th year of conquest. Thinking that I would win via conquest only, I turned all other wins off and .... I regret it. I'm winning but it takes too long to up the pop, build transports, take over area, send
Did another battle just to be sure... My 6 ships versus 9 ships. Round 1 6 shots kill 6 enemy. 9 return fire -> my lead ship hit Round 2 2 shots kill 2 enemy 9 return fire -> no dmg Round 3 1 shot kill 1 enemy 9 return fire -> no dmg
Very bad combat bug now. My 5 ships versus enemy 10 ships and I attack first. Luckily my ships are way overpowered. Round 1 5 shots killing 5 enemy. 10 Return fire - no dmg to my ships. Round 2 2 shots killing 2 enemy. 10 Return fire - no dmg. Round 3 1 shot killing 1 enemy. 10 Return fire - no dmg Round 4 1 shot killing 1 enemy 10 Return fire - no dmg Round 5 1 shot killing 1 enem
It really depends on the style of play.... Just like Metaphase stated - diplomacy playstyle works with trade, militaristic playstyle works better without. I'm not a type to trade but before the patch, I had to trade like mad to keep up with all the races, even making bad trades to get techs needed. After the patch, no trade... I find it easier to a degree since I dont have to worry about the races trading techs and staying ahead of the curve. Though the no trade makes d
Numbers... Pure numbers.... Contact anyone?
Well, it may work with the DS more than any of the other portables. Playing turned based games on a portable has the advantage of allowing the player to play and not play as needed instead of worrying about dieing mid battle..etc due to something coming up. Played FF Tactics and others of its style on my gameboy advanced and they are lots of fun for those times a computer is miles away. Porting GalCiv2 onto a DS may be worthwhile once its fully completed (done tinkering to t
I use Opera, but found this forum does not like it. Fix - use Opera for everything else, installed and use Firefox for this site. I have no problems posting or loading this site - unless the server itself is down - since moving to firefox. I hope that this site is setup to work better with Opera eventually but it feels like a lost cause.. I just love the mouse gestures! simple and easy... Its interesting you mentioned that Opera uses lots of memory....
CariElf and Lord Reliant, The issues you mentioned is interesting... I generally have the game running full screen but minimized while doing something else and come back etc. Have it up several days, but occasionaly I would check on my computer and the game would not be running. It is as if the game ended, no errors. This happens about once 3 days of continuously running...alt-tab back and forth. Had the game be closed when I get to my system about 3 to 4 time
Just keep on playing..... The AI does not cheat except above Tough. I can beat AI in colony rush fairly easily so far up to painful - working my way up, my games take a while due to time constraints. In my current game, Painful, Gigantic, One below abundant stars (forgot the name), Abundant planets, and 9 opponents - no problem beating them in rushing to planets and colonizing. Beating the AI in most all categories and overall number 1 at this time... only 3 years into
I saw the same thing. No problem with worlds that are conquered but world given by the UP comes up without any pq enhancements. The neutral tile enhancement is not taken into account for worlds given from UP event.
But the good's defenses balances that. The Neutral research balances that. As a neutral, I fought evil races with evil weapons and won. It just depends on using the benefits of the neutral alignment. Same thing for good or evil. This is on tough and now working on painful. Granted they are not giving me much of a hard time but thats why I'm going up the difficulty ladder. If you think the AI is too easy with the ethics, try a harder difficulty.
