Awesome news. Congratulations, guys!
does this mean that you are the only developer for this game ?
At this point, yes he is. But then, given that there hadn't been anyone working on GC2 at all for the last year or two (most of Stardock's game people have been working on Elemental), I'm just happy to have Brad still giving a little love to this excellent space 4x game. [e digicons]|-)[/e] &nbs
Well Brad has indicated in several different posts that he wants to do Galactic Civilizations 3 ....eventually. It's going to be a long time before that happens, however. With all the other game projects Stardock has going on right now (with Elemental merely being the most visible), I'm willing to bet we won't see GalCiv3 til at least 2012. Odds are it'll probably be even later (2015,
Fascinating, Brad. You make me more curious that ever as to where the story is going to go.... Given all the games Stardock is working on and/or has planned, Brad will probably be well into his 40's before he even thi
What is this "Galactic Empires II" the article mentions? I've never heard of such a game.... [e digicons]O:)[/e]
Outstanding news! I've just started up playing GC2 again the past few days, so this is very welcome.
Arceans more aggressive at colonizing Terrans build up military sooner
I especially appreciate these two, as I'd noticed both races having these problems, respectively. Thanks again, Brad & co.! [e digicons]\o/[/e]
Gah! I lost over a year of my life playing that bloody game. I had to quit cold turkey, else I'd have gone mad -- MAD, I tell you!!
Id like to see multiplayer supported. Its a llittle boring against an AI al the time...
You'll have to wait for GalCiv 3 then. For better or worse, Brad has repeatedly stated GC2 will not have multiplayer added.
If....if, we see a GC3 (at least in SP TBS form) i would not expect it before 2012 and i would not expect to hear anything about it till the end of next year. Even your 2011 beta seems early to me Willy....though it could be that early i guess, depending on Elemental and/or other titles that SD publish in the meantime. Very good, Komnenos ! You're one hell of a storyteller. [e digicons][/e]
I pretty much do what the other two have said -- go and grab the better worlds first, and then come back and colonize the low-quality planets later on. I only ever settle a crappy planet early on if it's in a key strategic location.
I nearly always play with the max number of major races. Only on the very smallest maps do I play with less than that.
Is it possible one of the other races obtained a Diplomatic victory? I ask that because by process of elimination, it seems to be the most likely scenario. You stated Research and Ascension victories had been disabled, which leaves the Military victory, Diplomatic victory, or Cultural victory. The Military victory can obviously be ruled out, as that would mean your empire had been destroyed. Likewise, a Cultural victory seems unlikely, as that wo
Chalk up another fan of the Imperial Fleet in Star Wars, and both the Klingon & Romulan fleets in Star Trek. The Empire's Star Destroyers (again, in particular the Imperials and Supers) are just truly badass and awe-inspiring. On the other hand, Klingon and Romulan vessls have this predatory aesthetic that makes them look very intimidating.
I just spent a whole hour customising a race Have you started playing with the ship designer ?
Heh. That's what I was wondering. If he took an hour just to design/customize a race, he'll spend whole days designing ships.... [e digicons]:P[/e]
Your idea about the game having borders isn't really new, but it's still worth mentioning. I too would've liked to see something like this -- IMO, other races' ships shouldn't be able to enter your territory unless they've either declared war on you or have secured rights of passage from you (freighters being the exception to the rule). Unfortunately, Brad ( Frogboy/Draginol ) has previously stated that such a feature would have to wait until GalCiv 3.
First PC game that I played extensively (we had it on the computers back in elementary school): Oregon Trail. First PC game that I *purchased* and played extensively: Command & Conquer Red Alert (the first one).
Odd. I thought I was already a fan on the GalCiv2 page (in addition to the Stardock and Elemental pages). Ah well; I've now rectified that. [e digicons]B)[/e]
Star Wars Rebellion was a cool concept, but I just couldn't get into it. Part of the problem was that it was a real-time strategy game -- which has never been my baliwick (I've always preferred turn-based strategy games) -- but also the interface was so byzantine that, at least for me, it became an excercise in frustration trying to do anything. Still, the game had some neat ideas, and I credit it with trying to do things a little differently from your typical strategy fa
Sorry to nag, but are you going to be updating this any time soon Komnenos ? I've really been enjoying it, and am curious to see how it progresses!
Very cool. Congrats guys! [e digicons][/e]
I'll definitely second Isaac Asimov's Robot, Empire, and Foundation series. It remains the best sci-fi I've ever read. Also, just about anything by Neal Stephenson is worth a look. His novels are very....different, but in a good way. EDIT: Oh yeah, and I'll also second David Weber, particularly his Honor Harrington books. Simply superb!
Lords of the Realm II . Picked it up for something like $17-18.00 at Target of all places -- with the full box, manual, and everything! It was the first turn-based strategy game I'd ever played. I was hooked after that!
My last big disappointment (and second-biggest overall) was Rome Total War . With the exception of the soundtrack and improved battle interface, it was a letdown in every way, especially after my superlative experiences with its predecessors Shogun and Medieval. AI and faction/unit balance was nonexistent, and the game was so unhistorical that even I couldn't suspend my sense of disbelief (and I'm generally not overly picky about such things). It was
Well the reason I ask is because according to Impulse, there's no update available for my version. I wasn't sure if that was right, though.
