Thanks Drengin -- I was having the same problem. Worked like a charm!

I absolutely love the new opponent customization feature. Love it! I spent a good two hours futzing around with it in DA Beta the other night, tweaking this and that to create new custom races, thinking about how specific climates and environments might shape bonuses, outlook, and politics, considering the entomology of planet and race names (wow, I can’t believe how geeky that sounds...), and in general spinning stories about how a particular race developed into a spacefaring nasty looking to

Fuels Chief -- Thanks for the tip. I'll absolutely do that... Part of the boredom was waiting for combat lags to resolve themselves. I like watching my death beams and other assorted kick-ass weaponry disolve enemy ships but in a game where you literally have to destroy thousands of enemy ships, you just don't need to see the sparklers every time... MarshallONeil -- I've been following the (heated) discussion about speed on other threads and I think I understand where the developers

Ugh. Remind me NEVER to limit my victory options to "conquest" again. Especially on a gigantic map. I'd have won ages ago through complete cultural saturation of the universe or by holding together a fragile alliance of bickering allies or by researching the unknowable, but instead I had to waste countless billions of lives, massacre my tried and true allies, and plunge the galaxy into an orgy of blood for the sake of gratifying my insatiable ego. I spent dozens of turns doing the tedious jo

Do folks really want minors to be able to join the UP? I'm of two minds on that -- on the one hand, I think it would add an interesting dynamic to the game, certainly making it more fluid and unpredictable (I know nothing about programming, but this seems like something that would be awfully hard to implement correctly). But on the other hand, I can imagine any number of rational reasons why a civilization would forever be a minor player on the galactic stage. What do folks think? An

Thanks Quixen! Just thought the story would add a little interest to the discussion. Not that there isn't already a lot of interest in improving our friends, the minors... I confess that I've only played a couple of games on DA Beta -- not enough to notice any major changes to the minors (e.g., G.W. Swicord's mention that minors were colonizing). I'm excited about a new DA feature -- the research and economic treaties, an excellent addition to existing diplomatic options, IMHO. Does

Some folks have commented that the reason minors are so weak now was that they were out of control in GC1. Has anyone seen on another thread more of a rationale or explanation from our friends at Stardock about that? I continue to feel that there's a lot of ground between rampaging hoards of minors and the sad minors we have today. A little nerfing in favor or the minors could really add to the diversity of the game.

I agree with having icons for planets habitable by all... While I don't like the idea of cluttering up the planets with more icons, it is really nice to see at a glance which planets you can colonize and which you can't without having to run your cursor over each. BTW, I LOVE SPECIAL PLANET TYPES! It's a great addition to the game.

Hi Zydor -- Thanks for the thoughful response. I agree wholeheartedly with you and Kudelv that we should play because we enjoy it, not because we're maximizing scores or enjoying the pretty medals that pop up everytime we write a post! Nevertheless, campaigns (unless you get smeared) almost inevitably reach a "tipping point" -- that moment when you know without a doubt that you're going to win and it's only a matter of time before your adversaries bow to the inevitable. Before I s

Can someone tell me how the military rank that precedes our medals works? Based on score, number of victories, what? Just curious... Also, any tips for maximizing a game score? Do certain types of victories earn more points?

Misaniovent, maybe I'm doing something wrong, but I've never gotten my minors to use gifted ships. Maybe I'm not trying often/hard enough. I guess I could gift them more planets (shudder)... Is that the trick? Are yours building starbases in any sort of rational way? I really do love the minors and the diversity they bring to the game. (Can’t you tell that I dig the Snathi? Maybe I’d like them better if they were some variety of ferret? Hmm, probably not...) Again, I'm not advoc

The gigantic cedar-like trees of the Snathi capital of Idar-Los, a marriage of architecture and environment unique in the galaxy, burned like torches in the night, the flames stretching nearly a mile into the smoke-choked sky. Hours before, a small Colonial Union taskforce blasted through the derelict trade and colony ships in Snathi Prime’s orbit allowing the troop ships Chateau Thierry and Choson Reservoir to deploy millions of Colonial marines a

Tried to figure that out last night and was disappointed. I used a medium galaxy with the maximum number of minor races selected and only one major opponent selected. The game spawned only one minor race that did next to nothing throughout the entire game. It did not trade even though it had the technology to do so. It had a colony ship and constructor and although it had the opportunity (time and space) to use them, it did not. Despite being given a variety of offensive weapons technology

I was also confused by that at first, but then researched the tech and figured that out. I really like the idea of it starting out as a penalty until more tech is researched. Intuitive. I might suggest that you change the text of the penalty to read "-50% Production" when you put your cursor over the hostile planet environment icon rather than having it read "50% Production" to make it more clear.

Is there any way to fix the bug that miscalculates PQ for planets once you've chosen to walk the path of neutrality? I love the bonus, but hate that it overestimates the number of tiles available.

I'm not sure how this would square with the idea that the more complex governments operate on democratic and decentralized models. Although, come to think of it, how does that model work for the Drengin or the Yor??? MOO2 used unique governors that you could assign to different planets -- the governors had special bonuses that could increase production, research, revenue, etc. etc. That was a nice flavor added to the game. I might be dreaming, but I think these governors got killed o
