Wow, KP! That's an eye-popping score! :CONGRAT: Congratulations! Your Kzinti will be fat and happy feasting on the corpses of your enemies.

Interesting... I've been trying to play on Obscene because I thought the boost to the score would be worth it. Maybe I'm overestimating the bump in points for playing on a higher difficulty level?

Thanks KP! It was a tough win... and one that seemed to take forever. One of those where you claw your way inch by bloody inch over the hump and hit that point where you know you're going to win... but then it takes a really REALLY long time to storm every, single last backwater planet in the universe. As for you, I don't know how you keep up the pace! You're posting these major wins all the freaking time. Do you ever sleep????

Hey KP -- Thanks for the Kzinti files. Just finished up a long game, so looking forward to trying something new. Mighty heroes, vengeful and enraged, hunt our new prey -- men, the weak foes, animals to cage!

Fearless Leader -- I'd like to play as the Kzinti in my next game. Do you have any good race pics and logos that you wouldn't mind sharing? Thanks!

I'm so unbelievably ticked. I just spent the last two months on a game -- gigantic, obscene, military victory. One of my hardest fought victories to date. One of my biggest point totals to date. I finish the game to discover that I made the totally unforgivable dumba$$ mistake of not making it a metaverse game at the outset. No matter how much I screamed at the computer (imagine Kirk screaming "Khan!"), it didn't change the cold, hard reality that I'd played a non-metaverse game. :SNIFF!:

Thanks for posting that Wyndstar -- it was a really interesting read. Loved your strategy employing unarmed swift ships to pull the Drengin out of your territory and into your neighbors'. I never, ever would have thought to do that in million years.

Interesting discussion here -- I like in particular the idea that races (at least at the outset) are tied to a certain planetary type (i.e., the type of planet that race has evolved on). For gameplay reasons, perhaps you could allow all races to have colonize two planetary types at the outset of the game: normal/terrestrial and one other. For example, Humans could also colonize barren; an amphibious type could colonize normal and water planets, etc. I'd also like to see another planetary type

I think I understand. Does that mean I need to start with one of the "stock" races in DA (e.g., Krynn), making the limited edits allowed by the program (e.g., to the race name, but not description, to the attributes, but not the techs), and save it as something else? I've not been able to change super abilities when editing a stock race and saving it as something else... but I guess that's not too big a problem -- you could always just select the stock race with that attribute to edit. <br

I absolutely loved Ultima IV. I spent many, many, MANY hours playing it. I loved that the gaming environment seemed absolutely gigantic. You could literally sail around the world. Okay, yeah, the graphics (especially by today's standards) sucked, but what a rich game.

Apologies if this has been covered elsewhere (I did the obligatory 15 minute check on the forums and couldn't find anything)... I have several custom races that I use when I play Metaverse games; some are better than others, one has kicked my teeth in so many times that I've lost count. Bored with the current cast of characters, I tried to create some new baddies to play against. No problem creating the new races, but then each time I tried to start a Metaverse game with one,

Patriarch -- Congratulations on your latest victory! Hopefully you triumphed over edible adversaries and not those damn useless Yor... though I also hear the Korath are quite gamey. I noticed that you’re posting wins in DA 1.6. Just curious, any reason you haven’t upgraded?

One thing I thought MOO2 did better than GC2 was reminding you what race you're playing with. I don't mean that I'd forget what race I was playing during a game, but rather the screens with your empire's advisors (scientists, soldiers, spies) were your race, not some robot. Likewise, instead of symbols representing industry/science/food, you had little humans, alkirians, burlathi, etc. that you assigned to those areas. Just made the game feel more personal to me. MOO3 gave that up completely

MOO3 totally, completely blew. Unplayable. Someone described it (very accurately in my view) as essentially accounting software, but much buggier. I'm still mad at the MOO3 devs who put out such a crappy product -- makes me appreciate Brad and Co. that much more. That said, I am getting some use out of MOO3 -- I use some of the race pics for my custom races in DA. So it wasn't a complete waste of money!

Ah Mondays. I was thinking last night about my days playing Civs 1-2 and MOO 1-2 back in college and grad school like some sort of crack addict, in some cases blowing off class and pulling all-nighters gaming. If I remember correctly, I think I actually broke up with a girlfriend because I decided that I'd rather be playing more Civ (I'm SURE there had to be other reasons... Right? Right????) But those carefree gaming days are gone forever with the work-a-day world and family. Now,

Thanks Patriarch -- I did post a political victory, but am pretty disappointed in the score. Playing masochistic on a large map, five years, eliminated all but one opponent (allied - I could have easily destroyed him but lacked bloodlust), had enough of the map covered for a cultural victory, and feel like I got the shaft on scoring. Short of military victory and finishing the game as quickly as possible, do you have any tips to maximize my score? Well, if I'm going to be part

Purge, I take a similar tack. Trading with the minors (and getting research and econ treaties from them) helps supplement what your explorers are bringing in during the "economic dark ages" early in the game before your front-line colonies are self-sustaining. During the early parts of my games, I'm constantly trolling the minors for money and tech.

I've read this chain with interest because, while I consider myself to be an experienced player, I have not been successful on DA and have gotten increasingly frustrated. One common thread of advice here has me scratching my head and may be where my strategy is failing -- the comments about colonization techs. That really surprises me. I generally play on higher difficulties with lots of major and minor races. For my beleaguered civilization, there’s a common storyline in my games – I rush o

Cyberj914 (and everyone else) -- Thanks for the tips to improve performance. I'm eager to get home tonight and try some of these suggestions. But... what puzzles me is that performance seems so much worse with the latest patch. I thought I'd noticed that the lag times for loading saved games and from turn to turn in the original version of DA were much reduced from DL. Now, with the latest patch, I can wait upwards of five minutes (or more!) for a saved game to load compared to a und

Thanks for soliciting our ideas Stardock. Your dedication to improving this game is another example of how you guys rock and the other guys suck. There are a lot of great ideas on this thread. I want to expand on a couple of them: -- Planetary Bonus Tiles: I love the diversity of planets and wish there was more diversity in the tiles as well. For example, why not have economic tiles that boost tourism if you build a unqiue building on it or income if you build an economic bu

I love the ability to customize races w/o modding. And the new planet types. I love the variety they add to the game.

I'm hoping that the AI is more agressive DA by trying to win by whatever victory conditions are allowed. In my last game, I got that dread notice that said the Torians were nearing a technological victory and I knew I was far behind on that score. Unfortunately, the AI allowed me to exploit the Torian's love of high-end missile systems and buy all of the research techs that let up to tech victory. I ended up winning the game, which the AI never should have allowed me to do. It made me feel d
