Well, what does cost matter when you turn your PQ-72 world into the most ridiculous money tree in the universe?

Well, if there are asteroids nearby your homeworld its definitely worthwhile to at least build the initial mines with your starting miner. That extra (free!) production is always helpful. I find my colonization is limited more by pop growth than industrial output. Space miners are cheap to build, upgrading to a colony ship for 170 is probably a good idea if you need to nab a high-PQ planet fast. You can always build another miner, but having the AI nab a high-PQ planet you wanted is tro
I wouldn't mind seeing a small upgrade to the UP voting system in a future patch. It would be nice to have some say as to what issue is voted on- nominating an issue for voting from a list of possible issues, for example. Also, consider a multiple choice vote, such as # of starbase modules allowed. If the influence leader votes for no limit and everyone else votes for some number of modules the influence leader can win even though everyone else wants some kind of limit but don't
Augh! My space miners gleefully trek to other side of the galaxy (I'm playing immense, btw) in order to set up mines inside someone else's territory! All my asteroids are mined, but they're all eligible for mining upgrades as well. I would love for the auto-improve to not send my miners to do free work for other civs, especially when I've got bases needing improvement!
That doesn't sound right at all.
It seems that the ships the AI designs for you have more components than space should allow- I could fit 6 pts of beam weapons on a ship, and the AI fits 6 pts of beam AND some life support! Not much incentive to design my own ships :(
PC is still a lot more expensive (1 of the reasons why PC gaming is dying)
PCs are more expensive, but pretty much everyone is going to have a PC anyways- you might shell out an extra $200 for a mid-range GPU (Geforce 9800 GTX is about $300, and that card is ridiculous), upgrade the CPU for $100-$200 and DDR2 ram is only $20-$30/gig right now. I'd say you're looking at $350-$600 to get a stock PC up to good gaming specs. That's on par with the price of a console with an o
The lack of a sturdy in-game help/manual system is probably my single greatest gripe about GC2.
I'll agree with that, it took me forever to figure out how to set a starport rally point :P.
I don't own a console, I may never own another one. I love strategy games, and sandbox-type building games, for the most part. On my system, I have installed GC2, Medieval 2, Sim City 4, Civ 4, Homeworld 2 and Bioshock. Except for Bioshock, none of these games could even be ported to the console: you really need a mouse or some similar interface to play them. I don't think PC gaming is dying. FPS on the PC are dying. Maybe high-end graphics on the PC are dying, too. For me, I'
I don't think Lucasarts got where they are by being stupid or lazy. They're in this to make money, and if they thought they could make sufficient profits from porting FU I'm willing to bet they would. They're also concerned about brand integrity: if most users have to scale down FU to a point where Lucasarts feels the presentation is substandard, that hurts their brand image. Lucasarts' major asset is the power of their brand image (its friggin [size="5"
Well, everything he said applies to either game, really. :) I would buy Sins today if I hadn't just laid down for the GC2 ultimate bundle...
There's a place agent button on the espionage screen, and theres one on the main UI bar at the bottom left, right next to the create rally point button. Or you can click on a planet and click the spy button on the bottom of the UI bar as well.
Nope, a Quebec_french "Minor" who's typing messages with a limited vocabulary and the mindset to parse through whichever comes first. Words, that is - translated as close as possible.
Ah, thanks for that clarification, Zyxpsilon! I've sometimes had trouble getting your meaning in some of your posts, but being able to place you as a native french speaker actually really helps me understand what you're getting at. We have a fair number of NB acadian-french speakers
You need to have the original game AND Dark Avatar to play the Twilight of the Arnor- the new expansion builds o and expands everything before. Buy the Ultimate Bundle, each expansion is like a game unto itself, $60 is a fantastic deal for the amount and quality of game you get. Also, it seems to run fine on my Vista laptop.
I started back with the ol' C64. Ultimate Wizard- even my Mom loved this one. Knight Games! I got to hit my brothers in the nads with a poleaxe. A classic favorite. AlleyKat- I just loved crashing the ship... Once I had game with 2 Dread Lords (Milky Way map starts with them, then I got the event). The Dread Lords blew up about 20 of my economy starbases. Then, the Jagged Knife took away my biggest economy planets, and took over the 2 Terran planets I was doing all my trade with. Then I had the speed limit event (5 pc). In the middle of trying to take back my planets and make new trade routes (that took forever at 5 pc) I got the event where you're framed for assassination and another race dec
Well, the digital download installs it for you automatically, and the entire bundle is small enough to burn on a DVD for storage afterwards. It's not an elegant solution, but it's definitely functional.
At the very least throw a lab on the precursor tile. Thats like 7 free labs, really. Add a research coordinator and you'd get the output of 10 labs total. If your economy can afford it I'd go all-out research on that planet, otherwise I'd just fill it up with econ buildings.
The Jagged Knife is most certainly a mega event, and as such can be turned off with the rest of them.
I stand corrected, I think I heard that in another thread about mega events somewhere. There's probably an accurate list floating around someplace.
The CD version only has a CD in a sleeve. That is it.
Well Jeez Louise, I'll definitely just be burning off a backup, case closed!
The only problem is that some of the nastiest events, like the Jagged Knife for example, are just regular random events and not mega events, so you can't turn them off (correct me if I'm wrong). I love playing with these crazy events myself, I never know what's going to happen next. Keeps things interesting and tense.
I'm getting the download right now, and I'll just zip and burn the games files to a DVD for easy storage. I don't really need to pay $10 for a printed manual, either...
Every developer deserves to be compensated fairly for their hard work, but you folks seemed to have gone above and beyond to provide ridiculous value. Expansions that are like complete new games in their own right, massive support through patches, seeking out user feedback, and above all making a terribly engrossing, finely-crafted game with amazing replayability. I already had a cracked copy of DA 1.8, but as we speak I'm waiting for the digital download of the Ultimate Bundle to finis
The "Milky Way" map comes with it's own Dread Lords to start with; the first time I played it I got the Dread Lords event fairly soon in and had to deal with double the Dread Lords. I wasn't able to place spies on the 2nd DL planet (to hamper their production) because the game said they were a "minor race". Ain't nothing minor about two Dread Lords in your backyard... Then, ironically, both those baboons went to war with each other. I saw a lot less DL ships after that, thankfully...
I was just playing DA 1.8 with Terrans on a gigantic map, and was the first to research the plague cure. I was getting +1000 BC per turn for a long time, and ended up buying about 14 worlds from my Torian allies for the grand sum of 8000 BC and the plague cure. I'm playing on challenging, too. I mean, WTF? The Torians went right from #2 to second to last, pretty much deciding the game right there.
