Space miner auto-improve issue

Augh! My space miners gleefully trek to other side of the galaxy (I'm playing immense, btw) in order to set up mines inside someone else's territory!

All my asteroids are mined, but they're all eligible for mining upgrades as well. I would love for the auto-improve to not send my miners to do free work for other civs, especially when I've got bases needing improvement!

Quite odd, I've never seen miners go into another's active territory to make mining facilities. I see it go out into unclaimed territory...

They seem to look for the asteroid with the lowest level of mining facility and head to those first, then work their way up. That's why they had run to those ones on the other side of the galaxy, rather than upgrade the ones you currently have.

I just confirmed that they don't auto-improve in another civ's territory. What they were doing is trekking 16 sectors across the galaxy to get unclaimed 'roids, and the AI set set up some colonies and expanded borders during the whole frikkin' year it took them to get there.

This is on immense with abundant asteroids, so there were way more 'roids than the AI bothered to mine. Directing all my miners ended up being an epic micromanagement quest. I wouldn't mind some kind of tweak to keep miners within a certain distance of my borders, or to upgrade a nearby mine if the nearest unclaimed 'roid is too far away.

If I want them to travel all over hell and creation I can send them manually. I'd fire those miners and hire robots if the jerks weren't unionized...

(ha ha ha, I said roid) :P

Take your laser pistol and shoot the life support systems. If you remove all life support from their ship, they are limited to what passive stuff they bring on board. As long as you haven't spent too much time researching new life support techniques, they won't get too far on an immense map.
