There's been some talk of old 2D games being better than 3D games on this thread. I would agree in some instances. They tried to make Lemmings and Worms into 3D games but it was the quaint 2D nature of the game that made them fun. However a lot of games are better in 3D such as Grand Theft Auto. On a different topic, remembering these old games perhaps we see them with rose-tinted glasses. I was a big fan of the game Pirates! for the amiga. It was re-released a couple of ye

I agree SMAC took some giant steps forward in turn based strategy games that I don't thin newer games have emulated which is a shame. Though galciv2 is a great modern game, I think SMAC is still stonger in a lot of areas, even though its almost a decade old.

I agree over the past few months the forum is becoming a board for individual to post their views with the purpose of influencing others, which I personally find offensive and not what I come to a gaming forum for. There are plenty of sites on the internet for people to discuss philosophy and religion so I don't see the need to bring them here, which is a gaming forum after all. In addition I believe a lot of these individuals go from site to site merely copying and pasting the same rh

oh I forgot I was a big fan of the Lucasarts adventure games such as monkey island. I know that genre is dead but it is rare nowadays to see a game with such detailed content. The only one I could think of is Deus ex. Its a shame that not many games have followed that path as I believe the orignal Deus ex expertly combined a detailed story in a colourful environement. Deus Ex 2 was dissppointing as it didn't have the same depth. It kinda lost its edge as it was launched on consoles as well.

Never before a month has passed without galciv2 news on the main page. Does this mean the devs are focusing on other projects leaving galciv2 to lie Say it ain't so

The original Deus Ex was bril, sequel not so good. I loved Freespace 2 as well. Ah but my childhood fav game was the original monkey island! Actually I liked all the Lucasarts adventure games such as Day of the Tentacle. Also liked the Space Quest Series. Shame you don't see such colourful characters in modern games as much.

What game or genre would you like to be reborn? For me I loved the old style space dogfighting games like wing commander. I wish they could have a revival. I also liked elite 2 that was awesome. I heard a rumour that elite 4 is in secret development and is due for release in 2013. Im on the edge of my seat for that one, although I will be 30 then but my kids will be 8 and 7, so I can introduce them to the genre woo. Bet they'll be thrilled. I also like fantasy RPG like dia

Any particular reason? Im not bothered as I never change my homeworld anyway. Now that I think about it isn't it impossible to change a races 'homeworld', rather than civilisation Capital

The devs won't leave Galciv2 for a long time yet. Their devotion to perfecting a game rather than making a cheap product and moving on as so many others do is something that deseves a big pat on the back!

I have always thought diplomacy is one of the weakest apects of galciv, which hasn't changed much since galciv 1. In my opinion it should be listed as no1 priority for overhaul in next expansion pack. I feel that I don't interact with other races in the diplomacy screens. Any one remember SMAC, that had good diplomacy, even by todays standards which is good seen as though its ten years old or so.

Haven't played in a while but just started again. I'm playing the 1.5 version under windows vista and have noticed that the mouse cursor flickers annoyingly. I'm using a ATI Raedon x600

here here! I don't like messing around with constructors and starbases but find it neccessary to do so. I don't use rally points either because I feel they're clumsy. Just thought I'd add my vote to the debate!

cloaking would'nt make the game more fun in my opinion. It would take the devs loads of time to program the AI to use it effectively which time could be used elsewhere. Also it would likely be able to be exploited by the user to a large degree against the AI And at the end of the day, I don't want a game with fleets of hundreds of cloaked ships

Just completed a gigantic galaxy map on very slow tech rate. I won a tech victory but my nearest rival had a military rating of over 150 higher than me. They could of easily wiped me out but they hung back and let me win. I was on good relations with them but did they want to actually win the game?

Just started playing GC2 after a long while. Great game and all but I can't believe its version 1.31 now and you still can't break an alliance with a minor race. btw get the pun from the title... minor complaint... minor race issue?........ oh well I thought it was clever
