Regardless of who went to war, and why (Although if Israel were that powerful I think they'd have been able to make use of Gulf War I back in the 90's when most of the world would have been quite willing to go kick Saddam's teeth right down his throat), blaming anyone for the sectarian killings, suicide bombings, and torture except for the individual murderers, bombers, and torturers is facile and doesn't work in the real world. The only person responsible for the individual's actions is the ind

And this long-winded posted was prompted by what... A one sentence long description of a political party in a sci-fi computer game? I doubt this is the place to show off your economical knowledge. It's just a guy's personal mod to a game, not liberal propaganda that you need to squash. <img src="http://images.stardock.com/gc2/T_D
Heh... if I am playing as a Good civ and I get a 40%PQ planet bonus.... I just go and say some Hail Mary's later! Yeah that's true. No matter how pure and holy I might be acting, if a notable bonus comes up I do the evil thing and make up for it later. Of course, we're not truly good in th
Depends on our comparative soldier ratings and techs. If mine are notably higher, I'll take no action and try to weather the invasion. If I don't think I have suffucient advantage, then I'll probably rush the best ship I can, and hope I can get more over there soon enough. Of course if I'm rich enough and have more than one or two turn's warning, I can buy a whole fleet. Other than that, I don't do too much, I just leave it to be taken. Gett
Looks very cool! I hope it works out well, and that we might get a release soon. This would be VERY popular, I can assure you.
I'm fairly sure that if you go into the file 'GC2Types' and edit something within a tag to be '0', it will remove the scaling effect. I've not investigated this in depth yet though.
Solar Sails would be incredibly cheap, but incredibly slow, too.
There've been a lot of good ideas in this thread, so I'll just tell you what I did. I went into the XML files and increased the cost of colony modules 20-fold. Result? You've got to dedicate a lot more time to the colonization effort - and it happens far slower. It doesn't remove the colony rush , but it does cause two things - the colony rush is much slower, more believable, and can depending on the circumstances have a much greater, or much smaller, effect. Second; if you only throw
I find myself regularly killing trillions of aliens. *Shrugs* Actually though, the Terrans almost always go to war with me, no matter who I am and what I do.
Alternatively, you can research miniaturization, huge hulls, and advanced troop mods - these will all allows you to design ships which carry more troops. The highest I've mananged is a ship which carries 6000 legions (6 billion people. An invasion force the size of the entire current population of Earth.), but I know I can probably go quite a bit higher, because that was a cargo hull, I had a miniaturization tech left, and I had two engines on the ship
It isn't farms which bring up your morale - that just allows your population to grow more (Assuming the PG is high enough, too.). You need entertainment sectors and things of that nature to get your morale back up again. Also consider things like Frictionless Clothing, Ultra Spices, and VR Modules. As a last resort, you can drop the tax rate, though without a reasonable surplus of cash you'll also have to drop your industrial output pretty soon too.</f
Oh deja-va, I have seen this thread before. Yes. "GalCiv II is really, really awesome." seems to have become the de facto reviewer response. I'm almost hoping for a bad score from somewhere, just to get a change. =P Congrats though guys, you deserve it!
Yes, do keep an eye on your spending. No insult intended, but if you haven't realized that needs tweaked and monitored then you'll be in trouble. Also having a few planets set aside for moneymaking - lots of trade buildings, lots of farms, a high PQ world, and a fair few happiness boosters - will help the economy side of things greatly.
Remember, you can rush-buy these things, too. Could well be what the aliens are doing.
I presume you mean defenses in general, rather than the specific 'shield' category of defense? If that is the case, then I can categorically say that defenses are extremely useful to have. It's not impossible for you to come out of a fight having taken only 3 or 4 HP damage, if your defenses are attuned correctly. Being able to send a single fleet in and destroying a significant portion of the enemy armada before it dies/needs repairs is a v
I have to say. That would make this game the best one ever.
It's probably really difficult to make the AI distinguish properly between you fighting the same war and happenin to be the one who gets the planet, and you deliberately sneaking around stealing the planets from them. I certainly agree on the second point though. (Assuming they don't, because it's possible I've just missed it.)
Oy, it's been too long since I've done math to give you a proper, statistics-based answer here. However, as far as I know you're incorrect about defense rolls - I'm pretty sure you can roll a 0 for defense. Edit: *Facepalms* I just checked the manual, which states that defense does roll from 1, and not 0. So yes, at that particular level of the game, it seems like it'd be a better option to have
I've had them show up in a few games. Very annoying they are, too.
This is wonderfully useful stuff. Thank you very much. *bows*
Excellent stuff, it works fine now. And the expansive and addictive ship builder just became significantly moreso. What have you done? WHAT HAVE YOU DONE?! (Kudos, though. xD)
A blog! Link You should be proud. I started that mainly for you guys. As you can see by the dissertation. Other things will be covered too.
I think the big random events are actually fairly rare things, you're much more likely to get something like the moral choices popping up. There are, I would wager, at least three tiers of probability - things with moral choices like Du'Rakh, things like Economic Booms and Ultradrive, and finally things which increased PQ and suchlike. I don't know if, and if so how, you might change probabilities and effects of more significant events. The
Despite some availability problems, we're told that we're presently the best selling software title at Walmart. Let me be clear: Not just #1 PC game, but overall software. That is a startling achievement, and as awesomesauce as GCII is, one I'm surprised (Though very please!) to hear. For those here
Also supporting the ideas of carriers are Babylon 5 and Battlestar Galactica. (Surprised that one wasn't mentioned!) Fighters would, militarilty speaking, an excellent tool to use. Logistics and life support might end up as issues, but having the ability to deliver precision strikes, to have a full array of weapons (Eg one fighter with Mass Drivers and one with Beam Weapons; it'd help a lot when it comes to engaging enemies with good armor, for example
