1. Go on up to the sticky thread "The Case for No Multiplayer". MP is a dead horse that has been beaten beyond pulp. 2. Check out SINS of a Solar Empire. That will be multiplayer.

Nice looking home-away-from-home (particularly when you consider the hours all of you spend there ) Empty basement - hmmmmmm - *gazes into crystal ball* I see a dungeon relating to an un-named fantasy game.... inhabited by wild-eyed "cranky" creatures armed with 20 years of IT experience..... being beaten into submission by a valiant.. *tap* - *tap* - *tap* sorry, the color must be going...

Well, it is too bad about the EG but you have to consider a couple of things: 1. Having a computer put words into sentences in a (semi) comprehensible manner is, even on the face of it, not a trivial effort. Just remember it takes most of us YEARS to learn how to do it (at the "semi" skill level) - and we're much smarter/flexible than computers. And then we forget how hard it was. And become remarkably intolerant at demonstrations of skill inferior to our own. 2. The popu

So I'm not expecting it until 10pm UK time, after that I'll be listening for the anguished screams echoing across the Atlantic when the office cat coughs a hair ball into the server casing. Then wait 20mins for Frogboy to leg it home to post an update as the entire SDC network keels over. Such an optimist! <img src="http://images.stardock.com/

The evil choice is pretty much how it went down in the US. In the good choice, the motherfrakkin officers need to go to prison along with the pregnant hillbilly. A. The US tried to do BOTH good & evil versions - Good for public consumption and evil somewhere else covertly. B. You need to replace "*** officers" with "CIA Consult

As the immortal Bard (or Chris Marlowe) said, "To thy own self be true." As long as you realize that people may not be what they present as themselves, and all you are risking is a demonstration of your approach to others, it doesn't matter if someone is faking it. Any "damage" from the deceit is the onus of the perpetrator's. It's not as if anything we've discussed here has the potential to ruin anyone's life.

On the Espionage tab there is a button called "Nullify". What is the cost to remove the effects of an enemy saboteur? The same as to place one? What is the mechanism? Do you nullify by placing one of yours on top of the enemy agent? When removed/nullified, are they caught/sent to jail (or the dinner table) or is there a chance for them to escape and go out on another mission? And do they gain experience, and if so, how is this expressed? Damage done, harder to nullify, somet

Going off of SrGalen's point #3 of having degenerating defensive power over rounds, I could see two technology improvements based off of this: 1. A technology that would return defense to 100% each round, as in the examples given on how this would work. 2. A technology that would actually restore HPs between rounds as a % of the hull size. This would be prett

Even though I haven't posted up on the Metaverse, having it there so that AI improvements are identified and gross exploits get plugged is a benefit to all players. It's even worth wading through the whines, but then, I'm not the one they're directed towards.... And yes - If you are going to have an arena for scores comparisons, the playing field has to be level - and whoever owns it gets to run the grader and check it out with the transit.

I.e. (this is what I sent to the team) Capital ship with 6 Photon torpedos (attack of 6) vs. Frigate with 20 defense. In each segment of a given round: Round 1: Segment 1: Photon Torp #1 rolls between 0 and 6. Frigate Rolls between 0 and 20. Photon Torp #1 rolls a 5. Frigate Rolls a 15. Result: 0 damage, Frigate Max defense reduced to 15. </TA

Vontage gets my vote - particularly the one where the blonde runs into the ocean full of sharks yelling "Dolphins!" Head On is really close, though - both versions Unlike what they teach about marketing/advertising, I CAN be insulted intellectually enough to NOT buy something on principle!

If you have a standalone designer, part of the interface should be to allow you to pick which techs/levels are available - the tech I see needing this the most would be to select the level of miniturization available.

One change I think we'll have to make is have the shots be based on the weapon and not the ship. That is, rather than a ship targeting another ship, it's the weapon that's targeting another ship and it cycles through the weapons. It'll take some thought with regards to how to handle defenses. 1. Weapon category, weapon type or individual wea

Couple of really interesting ideas here - particularly imaginative is the one where you end up as someone else. In general, as long as the AI will respond appropriately to the event (colored by their alignment, of course) it could add a lot of fun. Of course, if it REALLY messes up something you were trying to do you can always save it and reload a savegame - then go back and play out the alternative ending.

Just looking at the planetary improvement changes, outside of a 15% drop in the beginning, and a decreasing drop as you advance in production ability, it doesn't seem that your ability to SPEND has been changed much. Where you are going to see the difference is in your INCOME numbers, other than tourism and trade. The per tile production of food is now about 3/4 of what it was (you need 4 farms now where you only needed 3 before)[except for your capital, where the reductions for the 1s

Was on another thread when Kyro answered that DA was going to use the same 'My Doc' folders as GC2. Is it possible to have DA use a different set of folders so that both games can reside on the same computer without interfering with each other? This would be particularly helpful during any beta test period so a hard decision on which game to have loaded didn't have to be made. Of course, what would really be nice is to be able to specify custom folders so that it would conform with th

Not to put too fine a point on it, but robbers and thieves both steal (take that which does not belong to them) - the main difference is whether the victim is present at the time.....
