my ideas for GalCiv3

I copied my ideas from another topic, I found that they seemed to get lost in the shuffle so to speek. Anyway, here are my ideas for GalCiv3, feel free to post your constructive comments:

- New races: self explanitory
- Scenario Editor: like in age of empires, or rise of nations.
- Update the Races from GC2: I didn't like how some races had the same ship styles the only civilizations with their own styles were the dregins and the dread lords.
- Carrier module: I want to be able to carry tiny fighters in larger vehicles, that would be so cool! Plus, no more escorts slowing down your doomsday machines on the way to decemate the enemy!
- Better Race Costomization: this was my favourite part of the game, I'm serious.
- AI coustomization: if you want'em bone stupid, you can, if you want to fight the Q continume, whats stopping ya!
- Expanded ship costomization: MORE MORE MORE!
- Diplomacy: Threats, bribes you name it,
- Functional ships: like shuttles or farries,
- as said in another topic: cloaking devices
- Drone ships like in "starwars: planet of twilight (yes I read)"
- an organic ship set, like Species 8472 from Star Trek Voyager
- as requested in another topic, a saucer or classic sci-fi ship set
- the ability to design your ground units
- Gigantic ships, like the Voth city ship from Voyager, maybe with a limit to how many you build
- a "feedback pulse" defense that could reflect enemy fire

I definately second the threats idea. Currently you can ask for money, but the AI treats it as a request rather than as a demand, which is often what I want. The way I'd do it is to have a check box to make a demand. Then, if the other civ rejects the demand, you auromatically go to war (or have a vote to declare war).

like it, so you didn't read that evey star wars fan buys whatever is in the market with a star wars stick on it... lol

NICE! You have my vote.

Just an addition, you said that you didn't want escorts slowing down battleships, and you said that you wanted fighterbays, maybe all ships or large size and above could be capable or carrying fighters and can either be launcher manually or automatically when attacked, the fighters you put in would be limited by logistics like anything else, you could practically hide an entire fleet in one starship!

Edit: TERROR STARS!!

The ability to TYPE A NUMBER! That is, to type the number that I want to use, and not be forced to use the sliders. This is especially a problem when you want to buy something off another civ and you have a rather absurd amount in your treasury, and each mouse-drag slider tick is thousands of BC.

Enhanced Starbase functionality. For example, constructors could, instead of adding a module, repair damage or increase hit points. Multiple construction modules would allow construction of multiple modules at once.

A logistics Module, which would increase the size of a fleet that the ship could participate in.

The ability to TYPE A NUMBER!

You can do that now - click on the number field and type. You can then either retype or adjust by 10 or 1 by clicking on the appropriate arrow keys.

A logistics Module, which would increase the size of a fleet that the ship could participate in.

Or a starbase version of the Orbital Fleet Manager?

My pet peeve that I would like to see changed is the requirement to have to use a program defined set of save folders - This is the only program I have that dictates use of "My Documents" and in fact is the only thing in there.

Sounds good to me as well. I like the game, but to add some spice and variety it would be nice to add some more war based techs and maybe even another tech tree. Sure more time to take to research things, but that can be lots of fun and add more variety.

Another fun thought is being able to build a 4th class of space station. How about colony station? You can add modules with a constructor ship that allow you to build things on it like on a planet. So you start with it like a basic colony, then use a constructor on it once and you can build a single tile then like a factory (using SP), then another constructor to add another tile, and so on. You don't have to have it act exactly like a planet, you can make food production, etc divided by 5 so it only has a pop cap of maybe 1 billion, plus another billion for every farm, and so on.

Another thought, and I would LOVE to see this, is have military star bases capable of building ships. You can add star base construction modules to it to increase its military production value, maybe say 5MP for the first module, 7 for the second, 10 for the third, and 12 for the fourth. This would allow you to increase your ship production and not have to have it limited to just your planets. It would aid in projecting your power a long distance as well.

Another thought is being able to damage planets without landing troops. Call it planetary bombardment and have it say wipe out 10-40% of the population and 20-30% of the PQ. Not something I would want to do that often, especially if I wanted to claim the planet later, but sometimes you just want to gut another civilization, but you don't want to take over all of their worlds, maybe just 2-3 and decimate the another 3-4 before suing for peace.

Anyway, whatever. I am sure whatever Startdock produces next WILL be awsome. Until that time I will content myself with enjoying GalCiv2.

What i d like to see is some sort of next-gen variation. I want to get up close to the planets and see them develop, as cities build to continental scale and allow for better use of planets(as if one can make a HUGE difference). Perhaps build and design ships from scratch(hull and everything) and go from inventing the hyperdrive to possesing god-like powers... But perhaps thats a whole other game, i m just dreaming...

yea i find it a bit strange an entire planet has 4 buildings and no urban centres

Good Lord I'm still playing GalCiv2!!! You sound like EA...release a huge-hit game (BF2), mismanage it and give horrendous bug and patch support, and then a year later try and release another game (BF2142) based on the same engine without letting the first one even run its course. GalCiv2 has so much time and life left in it, why bury it before it dies? Heck, it took me the better part of 10 years to stop playing MOO2 and GalCiv2 is at least as good as that game. I'm not saying wait 10 years for GalCiv3 but come on...give it some time!

The carrier idea comes up often, and even I've brought it up...

It would be nice to have a module that allows you to carry tiny and small ships... Of course, fighters would have to get much better in their defense to make this worth while... IMO, there should be a defense bonuse for smaller craft being targeted by larger craft.

Damn dude, the expansion isn't even out yet, don't bury a game that's not even a year old!
well, I don't want to bury the game but what I'd definitely like to see in GC3 is a 3D map, i.e. you play inside a cube or a sphere and not on a flat game board. I think that would add a lot more than just new units or UI enhancements.

I totally agree. I hate the cutesy My Documents, My Computer and the entire cartoonish look of XP. At least I can rename them to Documents, Computer and use the windows classic style. Also the concept of hiding files, folders and extensions really PO's me. If I had a choice I'd still be using Windows for Workgroups 3.11.

Wait, this isn't the Microsoft complaint department? Opps. Sorry. But I would really like to put my save folders elsewhere.

Some more ideas:

Race customization:
- more use of your race portrait, right now you selec it and then never see it again
- a way to set the noun and verb of your race (alpha centauri did this very well)
- Being able to set the responces of other races to you (when they greet you, etc)
- a way to select your races style of construction
- A detailed "race creator," or a way to give a race a special ability (maybe your race lives underwater, who knows)
- the ability to coustomize your races home system, maybe it gives you a seven by seven grid to place planets and stars?

Ship customization:
- Being able to paint your ships with names or symbols
- A module that just added HP

Technologies:
- Cloaking device/stealth tech tree
- slipstream drive (like in "andromeda")

Starbases:
- the style of starbases changes with the style of ships

General:
- closer view in the planet coustomize window

I like and agree to the most thing you mentioned, especially about diplomacy AI and such...Firm "realistic" AI, rest is moddable hopefully...

But other stuff is just as moddable, ships etc...

I've played MOO3, and GalCiv2 is, in my opinion, 10X better than MOO3. I predict that if StarDock kept doing things correctly, they could get at least 5 more expansion packs out of GalCiv2 before GalCiv3.
Why, the fact that StarDock does so much Beta testing gives them an edge in gaming that other companies don't have. That alone will net them some serious life-time customers. I've played a lot of games including Doom, Doom2, Doom3, Wolfenstein (the original) Wolfenstein(remake), The Sims, The Sim2, SimCity3, Civilization 1, Civilization 2, Civilization 3, Civilization 4, Empire Earth, Fable, Oblivion, and many other less famous games.
GalCiv2 is in my top 5 games.
If StarDock keeps beta testing, their games will always be great!

Cool ideas, but Stardock isn't intent on making Galciv 3 yet. However, its probable that someone might make a GalCiv mod for Sins of a Solar Empire, which would rock!

Yeah, but this is what forums are for, just to blab. Sure, the game designers do search the forums, but I doubt they sit down and write every idea down and pour over them. I mean, they created this game, and although I am sure they do read and appreciate our ideas, they probably take them all, even the good ones, with a grain of salt.

It is true that they ignore a lot of ideas. I've seen a lot of ideas that would have probably made Dark Avatar or Twilight of the Arnor better. A lot better.

I dunno, according to what I read about the Intent of Twilight, they intend to allow us to put our own ideas into the games. If this is true, and especially if they make modding easier, then we take our ideas and apply them ourselves, and if we choose, we can share with others.

This being said, if they ever decide to make Gal-Civ-3, they have a sea of ideas that they can pool from to make the game one of the best.

Incidentally, being able to build custom mods is what made The Sims 2 an excellent game and what made it so successful.
So, if they make Twilight so that building custom mods is easier, and/or they make it easier in Gal-Civ-3, then they would have a game that would blow other similar games out of the water. (You can't build mods, to the Civilization games, at least I haven't been able to find any.)

I'm tempted to agree. Though I'll wait until TA is done before making up my mind about how open the devs are to players' ideas: I've been a regular at the Ideas forum since the release of DA, read (and posted) many thoughts, and although no-one gets an indication of which ideas they find attractive, I'll see how much of that "sea" makes it to the new expansion.

I confess, though, that I'm not holding my breath.

Sure, for me this game is very close to "ideal".
My proposal is:
1) "no grid" - life support is a "fuel" and engines are a "speed" - all ships can be intercepted by "follow the target" (no like go to sector X, Y).
2) multiplayer - hot seat or PBEM.

I don't belive that the multiplayer will be created for GC2: The one of main abilities "diplomacy" is not easy to implementate into human games. More, beetwen human games "diplomacy" and "morality" these racial abilities are valueless.
Why? For human is not important your "morality" and "diplomacy abilities (f.e. majesty etc etc)" but only one sentence "what can you give to me?"

And

i whant:
Carrier module that add logestic instedd of little fighteres.
Better Race Costomization
Better Ethic Costomization dont ask me how just do it.
more diplomacy opitions
No cloaking devices its just to complacatid
computerised ships like probesor or atamed ships.
organic ship set, or organic hybred customization with the non organic ships
the ability to move your spaceships in combat.
half of this stuff i see from tv and books and life the probes should be esay and the carriers make them simmple.
