In my current game, I have 3 systems near a sector border. 2 systems are in one sector and the 3rd system is in another sector. If I build a starbase in one of the sectors, but between all 3 systems, with production upgrades, will that starbase affect all 3 systems or only the systems that are in the same sector as the starbase? What is the range of the starbase's influence? Shadowgopher

Well, its 3 days since the last post in this thread and I still haven't received any email yet. I was a beta tester and purchased the game sometime back in 2002. Any news as to when we can expect to see these emails? Shadowgopher
My guess would be no. For piracy prevention reasons.
I've been spending tons of money on espionage on all of the major races. I've reached the advanced level of espionage on all of them but, I've never received any intelligence information from any of my spys. I've even maxed out my spending on espionage and destabilization on the Torians.
Is there any way to find out which race is spending money to destabilize your economy? I've been playing along building my empire with everyone happy then I go to war with the Torians. Still everyone is happy. I've taken over many of their worlds and still everybody is happy but, I know that I'm becoming the largest and most powerful force in the galaxy. Surely, the other races, who I'm not at war with have got to be getting nervous. All of a sudden, my morale begins to drop on all of my pl
Very cool idea! I hope to see this added as a future starbase module.
I normally play on the next size larger than "Large" galaxies. Even late in the game, the performance is acceptable.
I use a PII 350Mhz with 192Mb RAM and I have no complaints about the performance.
I'm using a PII 350 with 192Mb RAM with absolutely no pain.
Just wanted to bump this thread so the suggestion doesn't get forgotten in the final hours.
I think it would be nice to be able to name the resources. In Alpha Centauri, their were several key bonus areas (borehole cluster, something sea, etc...). It would add a little pizazz if we could name some of these resources as the Kuiper Mining resource or the Von Schlaat Military resource or something. This way, it may be easier to keep track of where these things are.
I too would like to be able to propose an action to be voted on by the United Planets. Any chance of us getting some input into what the UP is to vote on?
I think the most reasonable solution was provided by BrandonW. Very elegant solution!
Just as you can request one races assistance to attack another race, I'd like to see an option to request assistance to attack a space monster. My last game had a space shark constantly harrassing me and I couldn't kill the dang thing! Although I haven't encountered them yet, the same request may be good for dealing with pirates and the like. Shadowgopher
I think that the space monsters are a bit too powerful! I had one hanging around my area of space and generally harrassing me. It took out 2 nearly fully upgraded star bases and had hardly a scratch on itself. They shouldn't be able to take out star bases so easily especially upgraded ones.
I'm quite pleased with the intuitiveness of the interface as it is right now. I too am a software engineer and I don't think that there would be a large percentage of users who would find it unintuitive. I would like to request, though, if you add the functionality to set a difficulty level and have the game choose the races and intelligence level that you don't remove the existing functionality. I like the way it works now. Shadowgopher
The slider gets reset to zero when the turn is complete.
It used to let me spend money on destabilization before Beta 2. Now it resets spending to zero.
In my current game, each time I try to destabilze the other races, the program keeps resetting my destabilzation spending to zero.
I second that suggestion.
I had the OS/2 version of this game in the early/mid 90's. It was a tremendously fun game. If they come anywhere near what they had in OS/2 (and it looks like they are), then it will definately be worth your money.
I disagree with Pascal! The ships are small enough. The average size of the ships are just fine but, the scout ship is very tiny. If you were to make them any smaller, then people with poor eyesight would have a terrible time.
I have no problem with losing the little freighters however, I think that there still needs to be some way to interdict a race's trade. I like what Magus is saying about improving trade. What about limiting the distance a trade route can be established until a certain level of trade technology is reached. (ie. you can set up a trade route across 3-4 sectors with basic trade technology but to go across the galaxy, you have to research higher).
Mine crashed when I tried to colonize my 2nd planet (thus making 3 planets owned by me ;p ). Does anyone have any comments about allowing the Mercantile political party to have more trade routes than other political parties?
