I agree with Woozy...SE4 is vastly better in most areas, but GC2 in others. We can rest assured that the SD team will eventually take the best of SE4 (5 coming soon) and implement it in GC2 (like multiplayer for instance). It is that, or consigning GC2 to the dustbin of gaming history unfortunately, (no matter how cool the ship building in GC2 is).

Gimp -- Fear not...there is almost no chance in hell that SD WONT create a multiplayer version of this game in the future. Just a matter of time. If you want a rockin' multiplayer 4x game, try Space Empires IV. It is this game that GalCiv2 will be competing with for years to come, and if SD doesn't eventually implement multiplayer, then it will unfortunately suffer in sales and replayability. Personally I'm happy that SD is working on the AI before the MP though, as even in MP, we need decen

That sounds like a feature in Space Empires IV. Very cool to hide ships in. You can see out but the enemy can't see in unless they enter the Nebula.

Well I just hope to Gawd that Brad wasn't the one who wrote the Tech Descriptions and DipDialogues. I'll try to track down those stories. Thanks Marc

Thank you Tert...and yes I know that planetary coordination "something or other" that you mention, but it just kills me when I approach a system and know I can decimate 2 or 3 times my # piecemeal 90% of the time. Even in this age of cell phones...if I want to throw a party I can blanket SMS everyone I know, to show up at 9pm. Gawd Forbid in the age of Space Exploration that the same partiers wouldn't show up at the same Bat Time, same Bat Channel, to thwart an advance into the System that by

I have the version from June 16...1.2. Yeah I just noticed that the "Beta" is stripped but because I have to leave the damn computer ON 24/7 just to keep from having to load a "game save", I didn't notice the change. Hehehe (flame me, go ahead). Just very happy to hear that we can disable Metaverse in the near future as I would like to play the game a few times to completion (on Gigantic) before I submit a score. Correct me if I'm wrong, but most players need a few games under their belt to g

Sorry, but I wanted this to bounce back to the top so someone would see it and answer before it is buried. Excuse me for self promotion~~~ But it is for the community I push an inqury eh?.....

Ok Gents thanks for the clarification. I just wondered why all my stats took a dive when I loaded a saved game...and WhyTF my Tech research sits there for unmoved for one full turn. I've not seen that "feature" before in other games. Then again I've not done a Metaverse game yet, nor played a similar. (Don't bother to flame me about "Other games", thanks. ) If it's a matter of time-line adherence...there must be some other way~~? Hey, this will be a potential classic...let's get it on the cu

Excuse me if this issue has been brought up before but: Why on Earth is there no option to toggle Metaverse/No Metaverse game? I would think there are many players who would be happy to turn off the Metaverse so we don't have the "Load Game/Lame Last Turn's Production" issues.

I usually just upgrade my Surveyors with a weapon and some defenses, then use them as grouped as "Wolfpacks" to lurk behind enemy lines on Recon Duty and to find straggling unescorted Troop Transports and such. Ion Storms seem like a decent idea though (why not eh?).

Don't get me wrong here. I like this game. It has great potential and I well understand that is a "work in progress". But.... Why after so long in it's lifespan, does the following occur: I approach a star system with a logistically maxxed out fleet. There are 2-4 ships at each of the habitable enemy planets. They A) Don't mass together the next turn on a System wide level. B) They don't even form fleets in each of their systems! WTF? 90% of the time I attack p

Adding "Hero's" would entail giving them "History". If the same guy who wrote the descriptions of Techs and Diplomatic Dialogue wrote the Histories, I think I would rather drink lit Diesel Fuel, than read them. Star Wars had the movies to back up the Histories of the Heros. It's highly unlikely that Heros for GalCiv2 could remotely have the same depth unfortunately. Otherwise it's a welcome idea IMHO.

Touche~ Masc. I think the current role of Starbases, given their expense in time/Constructors -- diminishes the value that most players would assign to them in another context. Let's hope that our developer friends out there can see their way to an expanded role for Starbases. I've just gotten to mid-game in a Gigantic galaxy, and had fully 80% of my bases destroyed by relatively small enemy fleets...then again I went on a Privateering pillage and destroyed many of theirs with even single sh

Yes I very much agree. What is the point of a base that can't both aid local ships AND defend itself at the same time? (if the proper modules installed of course). Goes against all logic.

Forgot to mention that Rally Points doesn't seem to work either. Perhaps I'm doing something wrong, but if I select a Rally point to send a ship to, it never keeps moving towards it. Maybe related to the AutoPilot issue? Thanks again.

8 Replies 6,102 Views

Perfect answer. Thanks again. Another question or 3. My autopilot seems to have "turned itself off" somehow. I have the icon selected as "on". But the autopilot is very erratic, and sometimes moves a ship a few spaces, then stops -- or doesn't move the ships at all. I can see the lines on the minimap, but they don't move by themselves. As you can imagine, this is really a problem on a Gigantic map with many ships coming online during mid game. Another -- I

Ah Tert...thanks so much for that....I thought that the Starbase would appear in a combat anywhere within it's sphere. Now let me ask this....if the Starbase has components to protect itself AND to provide enhancements to any fleets in the sphere...will it then appear in combat and contribute it's (Star Javelin for instance)own offensive capabilities to the battle?

Bought the game and am playing my first game that has gone past 50 or so turns. It's a Gigantic Universe. I have build many starbases, with defenses, offenses. They are placed so as to try to incorporate into my boundaries as many planets as I can, both mine and other races depending on the type. So I was attacked by a foe finally, and he floated a fleet into one of my Military Starbase spheres but didn't attack it. I launched a fleet to counter, and a battle ensued -- but no Star

How the heck could you not want Stock Market?!? Critical early on if you get into a war and need to upgrade ships with lots of cash really quick.
