and btw Reaver...great quote on First Contact. Yet does stand the mentioned issue.

I still don't see how "create fleet" in a planet or star system would hurt. And that can't be all that hard to implement. Small steps first of course. But the current actions are a shame. On ANY level of play, they (the AI's ships) should gel together into a fleet at the approach of an enemy of any size, at the planet of greatest PQ. IMHO~~~ Even at my level of complexity (as I mentioned I don't remember which I picked but certainly a bump or 3 above "normal") they really need not t
Not that I know of...there should really be a button for "next ship/planet" in the main info area. I have a problem with this also. You should see what happens when you have 100 ships out there and the only way you can be SURE you hit every one for a move is to click the ship/planet button and scroll through each one. It is also horrible in that every time you slect a ship...even if you are half way down the list...it will close the window, let you move the ship, then upon reopening the list,
Beta should also imply that someone at the company loaded a saved game and saw this bug as well eh? Beta doesn't mean that it (the latest iteration of GalCiv2) erupted from the last programmers "Save" and then launched itself onto the download list. But... Remember...WE are the playtesters for this game for the most part. And that is both good and bad news.

Ah good to know ...thanks for the input gents~~
I have an ATI 9500 with 256mb Ram. Latest drivers. 1024 mb RAM on the machine (2.8ghz Pent). Alt-Tabbing is like pulling teeth, and crashes me (or lock up) 25% of the time. If I leave the machine running all night as well (so as to avoid the penalty of loading a saved game) I also suffer the chance that the game locks up my machine most of the time. I know that 1.3 is supposed to clear up the save game issues for non-metaverse just haven't read a confirmation of that quite yet. Welc
1.2 used to crash on me all the time. As of the last patch it was much much better. But the game still has some crash issues. Unfortunately I'm @ 1/2 way through a Gigantic Galaxy game and unwilling to give up on it yet or I'd be interested to try the latest patch -- especially to test the new AI capabilities. ((Maybe some of you could post some "surprises" that 1.3xxx has successfully incorporated?)) If some of my pet peeves were addressed in this release, I would happily start a new game
Some great ideas here but Holy Cow! Programming that for SD would require some big budgeting time... And I too think that it's basically unrealistic to have my 1-2 mill troops dropping on a 5 mil world and that every citizen takes up arms and usually get annihilated. But without a major overhaul of the game mechanics, I don't see how SD could do it differently anytime soon.
I just hope that whomever re-writes the dialoges for diplomacy and/or the Tech Tree isn't the same person who wrote the originals. Oh and Marcathonas...he MUST be talking about Les Francais
Sorry...I have no idea how this post ended up on this thread....please disregard it here.

When you launch ships and "create fleet" at a planet, don't they then defend that system as a group if the planet is attacked from any tile around the same planet? If that's not the case then yikes~~~
I'm wondering if you have to be at a friendly starport or planet in order to get your damaged ships repaired. Can ships be repaired in raw space whatsoever? Is there a benefit to docking at a base or planet? Is there any change in the "rules" depending on the level of difficulty being played? Thanks for replies.
Who cares about the mis-spellings by the guy who wrote those descriptions? I'd rather get a stick in the eye than read most of them. BTW...love the game potential, hate the writer of those tech and diplomatic bits. They vastly diminish the game "intrigue" for me.
Some good ideas there Seth. Space Bovine, I don't think Seth was judging, more then he was offering some input. We can always bring out ideas when we don't know what the expansion will actually bring us, nor how soon. Don't discourage them. Yeah Seth, read on for some other ideas that you've touched on from other players. Like perhaps bringing Class 0 worlds into the fold by slow, expensive Terraforming. I believe that SD looks at and and considers any thoughtful pos
Oh..and I forgot to mention...always build 2 factories on every planet before anything else. All other building goes much faster. Perhaps you want a starport after the first factory, but only if you absolutely need it. After those 2 initial tiles, it is your choice to build a Financial or Research structure. Personally I always build at least one of each, especially on potentially high Pop planets. And I usually go for the Financial first as that can help speed builds of ships/tiles later.<
Ouch...a lot of good questions here...I'm by no means a pro yet but I'll try to answer some of these probes. 1st off... you should espionage your immediate neighbors and find out what THEY are researching/building. Then you can decide what off/def you should use to counter. Assume that any "Wary" or less diplomatic level from a neighbor is about to declare war on you. Trade goods I have no idea about using yet, but the "Planetary" bonuses of things like a "Manufacturing Capit
I find the Mass drivers to be of primary use for most of the other races during early game. When they need to be upgraded to another weapon type, I am thankful for the previously researched Stock Markets. Make sure you have the cash to upgrade at least a couple of logistically full fleets at anytime in the game against any enemy.
Furthermore....adding a comment about what seems to me to be a Major Undersight shouldn't be judged as a "bug report". It is rather submitted as stated....a Major Undersight on the plates of the Dev's. Remember...I like this game in general so far too~~ Huh?
Ok Dread... Point well taken. However I must say that I really dislike so many attacks turning into some Pearl Harbor, where even the Air Craft Carriers are anchored as sitting ducks (IRL they were already out to sea). How about the same scenario that I'm living out now "in game"....I have 3 fleets in proximity to the Capitol world of my enemy...and they (the enemy) still don't gel into a cohesive group to combat me. My invasion therefore, is not remotely slowed down "momentum" wise. <br/
Personally I just buy the colony ships from the get go till I have no money left. Then I drop my production sliders to accomodate my misdeeds, and go into Social production on my current worlds and build up my industry first, tech 2nd. The Industry allows me to have faster builds of ships, and thereafter, faster builds of my tech plants. Works like a charm every time (so far hehe).
Thanks PP...you answered questions from a lot of us out here~~~
I haven't had that particular problem, but when I upgraded my drivers for my 9500 card, I have some new little bugginess that sometimes causes the game to lock up. The older inception of the drivers also caused random lock ups with the game. In addition, I have had to open the machine's outer shell and put a fan right up close to keep the vid card fan from going batty for hours at a time. And yes I do have most graphics options turned off, as well as music & sound effects.
Yes I like "Wolfpacks" in enemy territory. Usually I upgrade my otherwise unused Survey ships to become high movement, low cost harrassement when I've already mapped out the current galaxy.
