The main reason I and many others don't do Steam is having to have their client on our computers. Also not really owning our games since if anything happens to Steam our games wont work. Its mostly a principle thing.
I am another that will not go the Steam route, which is why I gave up on the TW series and the Civ series.

Well the expansion will allow you to custom create your opponents. I cant wait for that feature. It's fine blowing up Drengans and Korxians but I am looking forward to vaporizing some of my personal favs....
I would recommend the Deathstalker series by Green and the Foundation series by Asimov.
