Dose anyone have any suggestions on good sci fi books and authors with similiar story format as galciv,start trek etc??

I would recommend the Deathstalker series by Green and the Foundation series by Asimov.

Speaker for the Dead
Xenocide
Children of the mind

All by Orson Scott Card

I found them all enjoyable.

For good trashy sci-fi, I recommned Dietz's Legion of the Damned series; lots of battles, although most are ground forces battles. I just finished Jack Campbell's The Lost Fleet: Dauntless; it was fairly good as well.
