This is terrific feedback. Going to print this out and see what we can do. I need to make a post about the economic formulas because we'd really like to hear your views on this.

The more shared DLLs they use, the more memory task manager claims they use. That's why Internet Explorer, Explorer, ObjectDock, and ObjectBar see such high numbers. They're not actually using that much RAM. As for ObjectDock vs. yZ dock vs. Moby, they're all free. Though I must confess I don't understand how soeone can say that yZ is "way better" when it doesn't have a taskbar option. That's kind of half the point of the dock. <A HREF="https://www.wincustomize.com/inde

Plan for what? Only X amount of server resources are set aside for users. Users who have registered WindowBlinds, etc. or bought a subscription or contributed skins, themes, etc. to get promoted to apprentice have unlimited access to the site.

It's the age old issue: Time vs. Money. Some guy is going to spend literally dozens of hours to rip the icons for personal use rather than pay $10 for them. Let's say you make $30,000 per year. That's $15 per hour. That's why these discussions end up as adults vs. teens. Most adults have jobs. And when you're working 40 hours per week, time becomes a real premium. The wallpaper section isn't going anywhere. We looked at bandwidth usage and while the wallpaper section does us around 10% of the bandwidth, it's not enough to target specifically. I think what we'll probably do is something like this: Users without accounts will only be able to download 2 megabytes before they have to create an account. Once they create an account, they can only download 5 things per day after they've downloaded 10 megabytes of content unles

Well what we do know is that unless things get easier for skin authors, we'll see fewer and fewer skins. I mostly stick to porting skins now because I don't have time to make skins. But I'd like to make skins. Making skins is supposed to be fun. Let the moderators and users worry about the quality of skins. I don't agree that skinning should be some arcane art that is only to be done by elites. I don't see how it affects quality, on the contrary: Many talented graph

The 9 megabits does not include HTML code. It is purely skins/walls/themes being downloaded. The HTML code comes from the Atlanta server. I think maybe tomorrow we'll see just how much impact the wallpapers are having and disable that section except for customers/registered users. I'll let you know our findings on that. <img src="http://images.stardock.com/images/smiles/sb.gif" border=0 ALIGN="absmiddle" ALT="
