The mouse pointer got stuck when I tried to move it from the controls to the map area.
The mouse appeared to work fine after but it is hard to continue playing when you don't see the pointer.
I also had the "invalid call" crash when I tried to switch to other applications and back using Alt + Tab.

Game regulary locks up and stops responding as soon as I select Upgrade for existing ships and then click on a componet from the list on the left - still looking for a pattern.

The upgrade system is either not working correctly or is illogical or i'm dim as I can't seem to get a workable upgraded ship sorted out.

The mini map isn't centring over my selected ship when I select it from the main Galactic map. If there is a key for this or its already known apologies.

so far it feels nice, its gonna be better than GC1 and that was a great game, I feel optomistic.

Downloaded .76[b].003 (Beta 4a?). I started the game from the GalCv II Config tool, saved and quit. Now if I try to start the game again I get a window that asks me to activate the game by entering my email and product code. I can still start the game ok from the GalCiv II Config tool or from Stardock Central, just not from the Windows Start menu.

Here's a short list:

1- The games crashes and generates an .exe error when I attempt to launch it from the start menu using the regular GalCiv II shortcut. I am able to launch and play the game with no problems by clicking on the config shortcut first and then using the link in the config screen to start the game.

2- The game appears pretty stable. Only froze on two occasions requiring a restart. One time I am guessing was when I attempted to rename all 4 ships I had in space. It froze when I renamed the 4th vessel. The second freeze took place when I tried to upgrade a Constructor ship that was in process of being built. In both cases, the game closed and returned to the desktop.

3- Once a custom ship is saved, I can go back in (upgrade) the saved custom ship and remove all the "extras" (i.e. eye candy components) but not the weapons, defenses, modules..etc. components. For example, In order to replace on laser on the old design with a newer laser, it seems to require me to "clear" the whole design and start over from scratch. The "remove" button doesn't work for anything except the "extras", and the other components such as weapons no longer appear in the little boxes (holders) below the 3d model, so it is hard to isolate those components in order to remove them.

4- Problem with the Starbase management screen: When I send a constructor to upgrade a starbase, the screen pops up with the various options, however I don't seem to be able to select anything and can only click the "accept" button. I am unsure then which improvement the AI selected for the starbase (i.e. mining, defenses...etc.)

5- Problem with the Quick build screen: Custom ships that have since been deleted or made "obsolete" remain among the choices in the Quick build popup although they are no longer on the Shipyard screen. Also, it displays 7 versions at different prices for a custom colony ship I created when the Shipyard screen only has the 1 custom colony ship I created (as it should).

6- All AI players seem to have found two planets each at the start of the game... although in most cases, it seemed like they were able somehow to occupy low grade planets - ps. I am not bellyaching because I was the only one with one habitable planet

7- Although I created a custom race, the AI Reports seem to think that I am "human"... as they say things along the lines of: "the humans represenent 7% percent of the universe and are responsible for 20% of the research".... when in fact the reports should read "the Serrians", which is what I named my race specifically trying to avoid being a lowly earthling, or a dirty despicable Terran -- The diplomacy screen seems to function correctly though referring to me as "Commodore (my real name)" as instructed.

8- I have no sound whatsoever... no special effects or music - Everything is turned on in the options settings... Does this Beta have any sound?

The Stats and Graphics tabs of the Domestic Policy window contradict each other. I'm playing against only the Korx - the Graphs show me as up 291 to 0 militarily, and 131 to 29 on technology, but Stats says I'm 2nd on military and technology.

I started off playing the humans with the Federalists as my party. After switching to the Republic form of government, at the first vote I was informed that I was the Industrialist party, not the Federalists. I "won" the election, with the Industrialists getting 85% of the vote, and was told my bonuses were "Economics -20". This is on .76[b].003.

A planet that defected to me from the Korx has now gone 10 turns without upgrading existing structures or starting Soil Enhancement. Other planets are auto-upgrading and doing soil enhancement (the governor has both options checked). So I'm not sure if it's unique to this one class 14 planet, or if all culture-flipped planets ignore the governor.

Post edited: I've now found another planet that culture flipped to me, and it is not upgrading structures or doing soil enhancement either.

Ctrl + N (New Game & Map) frequently crashes with anything bigger than a small map

Edit: This just in from the GNN first contact dpt.

Human Intro Message: (Went along the lines of) We are the Terran Alliance, We have claimed theese worlds in our name. Let our cultures stive (Stive, Not strive.)

Invalid call error immediatly after I alt tabbed back to GC2.

Later, at the next election, I was told that I had "lost" the election (the Federalists won despite my having 76% approval) and my penalty for having lost was "Economics: +20".

String bugs (may already be reported):

First Colony event is still human-specific.

Arcean start text has some uninterpreted line breaks.

Very strange bug with the minimap showing no influence for the edge sectors on two sides of the map: Link

I have had 3 or 4 ctd's (windows has detected an error, do you wish to report the bug mssg) using Windows XP. I have also noticed that some of the text in the GNN announcements comes up garbled & not readable.

Saving the game, eithier auto or manual is really long. On a game with huge and only 4 races save time is over 1min. I timed the last one. System is 2 gig pentium 1 gig ddr400 ata 133 hard drive.

Hmm, After about half an hour of playing, the centerpoint of one yellow sun (I.E the middle) suddenly stayed in the middle of my field of view, So I had a huge sunbeam being stretched out from the top of the sun model!

Tested using an ATI Raedon 9200 card.

Ive been getting quite frustrated with all the crashes on my games, im looking foward desperately to play out a full one and to continue lookingf or bugs however its been extremely difficult as i crash to desktop with the xp error send message very often later in the game (around war time).
Ive noticed other people expierence this are on XP like me, most of them have the same "cannot run game with galciv2.exe but can run it with the GCconfig" a few also have ATI cards.

Right now im going to install the game on my other system, windows 98 with an old ATI all-in-wonder and see if i run into the same later CTD's.

When I have updated my older custom ship design, for example with newer lasers, I can't build ships acoording to the upgraded design, I just get the old one instead.

If you have a save game that can reproduce this, please e-mail it to me at [email protected] along with a detailed description of how to reproduce this bug.

Reloaded save game and my homeworld lost all details and became a normal planet.

Ashbery76, what kind of details did you lose? Can you be more specific about what happened?

The mouse pointer got stuck when I tried to move it from the controls to the map area.
The mouse appeared to work fine after but it is hard to continue playing when you don't see the pointer.

Marcus, were you playing with a hardware cursor or the software cursor?

Was the build queue empty when you got it, or was it full of stuff that needed 0 or 1 turns? If it was a save game, it's probably due to the queue not being saved correctly, which we've fixed here.  If the queue was empty, I didn't put in any code to auto-upgrade improvements for defected planets, but that shouldn't be too hard.

I reloaded the game from a save and the Terran homeworld has lost the capital icon and had a normal description.Clear enough?

I had saved and reloaded the game several times, and I can't correlate that with when the planets flipped to me. The queue might very well have been empty when one or more of them flipped. I'll pay closer attention if it happens again.

It appears that the technology research speed setting that you set at game start is not being saved with the rest of the game data; after loading a game I had started with 'very fast' research, I was greeted by normal (comparatively long) research times on the remaining techs.

I had noticed that a tech that I was researching and had 3 weeks left, had 6 weeks left after a reload of the saved game. I hadn't changed the default research speed setting, though - do you suppose it's getting set to "slow" when you reload?
Could be that also. It's certainly not staying put--when I saved, my current research had only a few weeks to go, and when I loaded, it had 40+ weeks to go

An improvement like Multimedia Center says that it improves morale 15%, but the GNN report that pops up when you complete it says 1%. Looks like the second digit is getting chopped off.

While cosmetic only, shouldn't a class 16 planet look somewhat Earth-like? My second game with Beta4a has one that looks like Mars, both on the main map and in the planet view. I can send in a saved game if needed.
