Has anyone heard from Idazen? He hasn't checked into our private forums at the core... or even registered there yet.

And I must say, Motti, the next few rounds will be a lot less interesting without you around, Motti. I know Mumble will suffering from lack of competition. ;)

I have registered for the forums, but for some reason it doesn't like my password. I tried having it send me a new password and then cut and paste the new password in. For some strange reason it still won't let me in. /shrug

Idazen, as a fellow new team player, I had the same trouble with getting to my Team A forum, and thought it was a problem in my PC registry, but it turned out that the Core administration is just slow in validating you as a forum member. They finally sent me an e mail saying I was validated, then I was able to post with no problem. I suggest you watch for the e mail.

Idazen, as CalifDude mentions the Core requires validation by an admin. It seems to cut way down on the bots that were getting in and spamming threads. The weekend is slow in general but you should get something early tommorow, if you don't you can PM me here and I'll see if I can poke someone into action.

I just checked and your profile is not listed as "validating" so you should be all set now. Of course you will still need the password to your teams private forum which I assume that FireBender did PM to you.

Hey, I wont be able to do a game for this round

My computer, the only one that can play this game, has died and now nothing works, wont even stay on for more than 20 minutes at a time.

Sad to say it mah computer is dead, hope that somoene in my team will be able to make a game for me. I will work hard to get myself a new computer to put GC2 back onto

Consider me out of this until I give a status update that is favorable.

I'm very sorry to hear that. I know how annoying that can be. Believe me.
Hope that everything turns out well.

Hope you can get your problems fixed soon GalenEvil, and return to the league, and GalCiv2.

Kzinti, I believe that even without GalenEvil you still have 5 active players. So you should be ok.
Yep, our team is ok. We already have the requisite 4 games submitted too. :)

Sounds like an overheating problem. Can you check if all fans are working, and heat-sinks are properly attached and dust free?

Either that or the power supply?

I'm thinking that way as well. I've had this exact thing happen to me several times over the years. Always turned out to be the power supply.

Check - Allow Surrenders
End of quote

A question has come up about this. Could someone please explain how this works in DA?

I can think of two ways that this could work. One way is that if surrenders are not allowed then the AI will simply never surrender no matter what the situation. If this is the case then I would think this is not something that should change from round to round but should always be allowed just like all victory conditions should always be enabled.

However another interpretation of this is that allowing surrenders allows the AI to surrender in a hopeless situation even if no one is at war with them. If this is the case then I would think we would never want this enabled since it defeats your ability to go for a maximum score.

So which is it?

In my experience I have never seen the AI surrender unless it was involved in a war.

I'm pretty sure the AI surrenders under the same circumstances in DA as it did in DL. It was probably added as a feature to disable it for those players that didn't like the AI surrendering to another AI. Basically, to not allow surrenders is a bloodlust option.

If this is the case then I believe that "Allow Surrenders" should always be checked just like all victory conditions should always be enabled. Is this currently the case or have we changed this from one round to the next?
its always been enabled in the past IIRC. I don't know how/when the AI surrenders in DL but I've often thought the AI surrenders prematurely in DA. To be honest, I'd rather play with surrenders off.
I normally play with surrenders off. In both DA and DL, I've seen races surrender prematurely, in other words, they still have plenty of resources. It can be aggravating you're battling a race down to the wire then your enemy suddenly inherits a significant number of planets on the other side of the map.

I think the problem lies in people with DL cannot disallow surrenders. For it to be as even as possible across both games surrenders should always be allowed, sinceitwill be for DL anyways.

I've seen the AI in DL before surrender with 40 planets, so they jump the gun on giving up at times too.

ah, sorry; to be honest i didn't even think surrenders were possible in DL. Since you don't have the option of turning surrenders off then I would have to agree that we need to have them enabled in DA always to keep a level playing field.
Surrenders were possible in DL. In DA the AI was changed to more "realisitically" analyise its situation... which led to surrenders being much more common. Its because the AI became "surrender happy" that Stardock took the time to include an option to turn off surrenders completely in the new system.

I prefer surrenders off in part because it helps me to gain score. In DA I've on many occasions had the situation where on one turn an AI will declare war on me, and on the very next turn surrender to me or someone else because it decided it was "losing". The best reason to keep it in in DA is it can help good races and ups the difficulty. In a game I played with the Drath (suicidal difficulty in DA) I was using super manipulator to get everyone at war with everyone. I didn't even have a military. Suddenly the AIs started to decide they were losing... and everyone liked the Korx (I blame trade).... and in a series of 8 turns the entire galaxy except me surrendered to the Korx. Suddenly I went from being the largest empire planet wise to being outnumbered by about 7 to 1 in planets, and I was quickly defeated.

With surrenders on in DA super fast victories are easier, but high end score grinding is a serious challenge. It is absolutely NOT the same as in DL... again, that's why Stardock offered the option.

I think offering "surrenders off" for a round is something that should be considered by those running the league. Its a variable in DA that has a huge impact on how I approach the game. You essentially dictate whether it is better to go for a speed win or go slow for a high score win.

Hope this information helps the league organizers.
