MVL Round 3

MVL Round 3

"The Metaverse League"

Hi guys welcome to round 3 of the League. We have a few streamlining rules this round so be sure to check them out below. If of course we feel that there are not to our liking then we can change at the end of the round, but i think we are on top of most of the bugs now and things should go more smoothly. I will point out though that there is 1 rule that i will put in place this round that can be thrown out mid round.

"in the instance of a notified and accepted non-submital, not a "no show", in a 4 man team, a back up game will be allowed to be played be a fellow team member. That fellow team member will be randomally assigned by either myself or Firebender. A non submital with no explantion or prior notification will not be granted this privilage."

Ok here is the rule changes for round 3,

Team Bonus

Fastest team game time (average) 2 BP
2nd fastest team game time (average) 1 BP

Highest team score (average) 2 BP
2nd highest team score (average) 1 BP

Individual Bonus

For this round ( the different victory types),

1 BP for fastest and highest game per victory type.

No penalty's.

All ties, in both team and individual and in both speed and score categories, receive equal points.

Where's a score is dropped in any given team, that score, though no longer eligable for the MVL submission points are still eligable for any BP they may have achieved.

Averages are calculated from the totals of submitted games divided by number of members in the team. If a player gives advanced notice of his inability to submit a game then that player will not be counted as a member of the team for purposes of calculating averages.

I will before the end of this round post a new thread that will be the MVL Rule Book. Where these changes and the rest of the rules will be outlined, but do refram from posting in that thread please.

The teams as of round 3 are,

The A-Team (A)
Pndrev
Piznit
Dethadder
Xei Win Toh
Ferrel
Dystopic

The Blade Runners (B)
Neilo
TGE
Ghostwes
MarshallOneill
Vilgan
Noctilucus

Celestial Crusaders (C)
Playjeff45
Mumblefratz
The Butterfly
Firebender
Silverbeacher

The Domination of Death (D)
Brezelius
Mottikhan
Shadow Worrior
Elwood011
Kzinti

And now round 3, and Firebender this should make you happy.

Each team is required to submit a victory in each of the 4 different conditions. Your team captain will assign each player a victory condition to complete.

3 opponents on a Medium map.

Habitable Planets - common
Planets - abundant
Stars - rare
Anomolies - abundant
Asteroids - rare (DA)
Tech Rate - normal
Density - Lose clusters

Random minors
All victory conditions enabled
Allow Surrenders
Tech trading on
Super abilities off
Blind exploration off
Mega Events enabled

For team B, which has 5 players, the captain should assign his 4 team mates 4 different victorys and then play a game attempting a victory condition of his own choosing. Now we never really discussed what happens next but my proposal is that the two games that are the same, the captains choice and one of his players, these games could be combined and averaged to give us 1 game instead of two. Provided they are both victories. This is not in concrete but a suggestion.

The other way we could go is to leave it up to the team in question to decide which game to sumbit.

Either way have fun with round 3 guys and i hope these new rule changes work out well for us.

Good luck,

The Commissioner.

Lets wait for the other 12 players' opinion.

I'm not sure what we're voting for, but count me in as an affirmative vote on the way the decision went during the balloting process as the majority stated their opinion.

That, or however it's decided.

Guys, please stop joking around. It's tough enough to get folks to follow a train of thought without it being facetiously interrupted with foolishness.

If you have a concrete objection then fine, state it and let others agree or post a counter argument. To disagree simply so that the "vote" is more even is not rational.

Also I like a good joke as well as the next guy, but we're dealing with a collective attention span that is about as long as a gnat's. Now that we're on a new page it's doubtful anyone will bother looking back to see what the issue was in the first place. This is rather counter productive to trying to iron out the kinks in our newly formed league.

Hehe...for some reason this struck me as something I might have heard in a "brit-com" like Red Dwarf. An image of Rimmer saying those exact words popped into my head.

I'd be interested in participating in the next round of the league, whenever that might happen. I'll check out the other posts.

This current round just started and you could probably get in on it if you wish. This round won't end until the 18th of October so it wil be a day or so afterwards for the next round to start.

You can certainly wait until then if you wish but it should be no trouble to get you in this round either.

Anyway, I think the above should be sufficient notice for Neilo to come along and assign you to a team. Welcome to the League.

I agree with the "For" vote, so add another tally on that side if it makes any difference.

hmm, I lost one of my icons, Im no longer neutral, but the chaotic evil one isnt showing up either! Lame...

Looks like against is being outvoted. It really does'nt matter either way, I still believe it may be a few too many BPs, but democracy rules unless we live in North Korea.

Abstain.

You are more than welcome to participate in this round Kzinti. As Mumble said we are only early in the round and there would be no advantage or disadvantage to anyone if you signed in now.

Pardon my presumption but i will go ahead and place you in a team and we can go from there. Please don't feel pressured to play this round because i have put you in, just drop us a line if you would like to wait till round 4, i am a infrequent face around these parts at the moment due to work and no net at home. It is just easier for me to place you now and if you wish, take you out again later.

Wow that was long winded......

The generator has spoken and you are in.........

Team D...The Domination of Death.

Again welcome to the league mate and i hope you enjoy the different style of play.

The Commish.

A repeat of a correct interpretation of the bonus scoring for this round's multiple victory type scenario:

Fastest Conquest gets 1 point. Ties also get 1 point.
Highest scoring Conquest gets 1 point. Ties also get 1 point.

Fastest Influence gets 1 point. Ties also get 1 point.
Highest scoring Influence gets 1 point. Ties also get 1 point.

repeat for Alliance and Tech.

I vote in favor of this bonus point structure.

I have the attention span of a tse-tse fly, far superior to that of the gnat.

For that I am grateful. I won't apologize because I know you really didn't take any offense here.

Actually what I said was the "collective" attention span of a gnat. By that I was not denigrating anyone's individual attention span but was merely referring to the well known effect that the behavior of a group of individuals tends to seek the lowest common denominator.

No, I was simply being silly - I just wanted to do so after adding something meaningful to the second page of discussion. Sometimes repetition of the original subject matter is beneficial, and I hadn't spoken up yet.

Welcome Kiznit

He's Kzinti, I'm Piznit.

On the MV subject of the bonus points, I think it was mentioned earlier, but having the points apply to each victory condition promotes better team competition. If it was only 1 bonus award for score overall, whoever is completing the tech victory or influence isnt really gonna care much because you pretty much know you can't compete with the military victories. But by awarding points for each type, you get to compete against the others who are completing the same game. At least for me, I think I'm contributing more, or trying to.

Its more work for TPScot ala Firebender, but he doesn't seem to mind too much

Well I guess its up to Neilo, but I dont think he wants a rebellion.

It's amazing what you can accomplish taking a personal day off during the week. Yesterday I brewed an all-grain batch of beer and still had time to play the first four years of this game. Tonight was just mopping up. I don't know how good a score this is since I haven't played for a diplomatic victory in ages, and it seemed like it took a year too long, but I guess we'll see how the other diplo scores shake out in the end.

Nice game, MarshallONeil!

I'm bummed out about mine. Year 3 and I was expecting the influence victory warning. Just me (Drengin) and the Yor were left. No warning came, so I checked the victory conditions to see if I was at 75%. I had turned the victory conditions off instead of turning them on.

I had a precursor mine and a nice position. A minor race was even in there.

I'll have to pay closer attention. Lots of stuff on my mind so it'll take more attention just to coast along.

Luckily, there's still time. I'll start a new one soon and finish this one later as a regular empire game.

So it is possible!
Marshall ONeil has just shown it.
I think winning a political victory on a smaller map, especially with very few opponents is a really difficult thing to do.
You are normally all neighbors so you get close borders and influence that worries the AI.
It is certainly more difficult than just killing everyone.

I think its time for me to move up in difficulty again.

Hey, looks like we have a non-member reader. Thought about joining the league yet, Noctalicus?

Thanks for the invitation FireBender! However this round I'll just have a look at the various scores to see where I fit in - just finished my first game on challenging (until now always played on Normal), I'd like to move at least one difficulty level up before joining...

Noctilucus

Wow it would be cool to have another insect join the league - especially a shining beatle!

And I can tell you from experience: they don't crush insects - no matter how we score!

Meh.

I just finished my game, but the Metaverse gives me an error (16) when trying to post it. This is with the 1.7 beta 1.

I'll try posting it again in a few days, hopefully it will be accepted then.

If you spell it 'beatle', he might actually be a walrus.

Why not look at Round 1 and 2 scores? They are both in the
Results and League Ladder thread. But I'm sure you'd fit in no matter how you score.

Btw, moving up in difficulty is never a bad idea. Once you play a few games and are sure that you can now beat the AI at that level. Its time to move up. I went from normal to challenging to tough and now I'm gonna move up to Painful. (I hope it doesn't hurt too much)

especially a shining beatle!

I don't get it.
