MVL Round 3

MVL Round 3

"The Metaverse League"

Hi guys welcome to round 3 of the League. We have a few streamlining rules this round so be sure to check them out below. If of course we feel that there are not to our liking then we can change at the end of the round, but i think we are on top of most of the bugs now and things should go more smoothly. I will point out though that there is 1 rule that i will put in place this round that can be thrown out mid round.

"in the instance of a notified and accepted non-submital, not a "no show", in a 4 man team, a back up game will be allowed to be played be a fellow team member. That fellow team member will be randomally assigned by either myself or Firebender. A non submital with no explantion or prior notification will not be granted this privilage."

Ok here is the rule changes for round 3,

Team Bonus

Fastest team game time (average) 2 BP
2nd fastest team game time (average) 1 BP

Highest team score (average) 2 BP
2nd highest team score (average) 1 BP

Individual Bonus

For this round ( the different victory types),

1 BP for fastest and highest game per victory type.

No penalty's.

All ties, in both team and individual and in both speed and score categories, receive equal points.

Where's a score is dropped in any given team, that score, though no longer eligable for the MVL submission points are still eligable for any BP they may have achieved.

Averages are calculated from the totals of submitted games divided by number of members in the team. If a player gives advanced notice of his inability to submit a game then that player will not be counted as a member of the team for purposes of calculating averages.

I will before the end of this round post a new thread that will be the MVL Rule Book. Where these changes and the rest of the rules will be outlined, but do refram from posting in that thread please.

The teams as of round 3 are,

The A-Team (A)
Pndrev
Piznit
Dethadder
Xei Win Toh
Ferrel
Dystopic

The Blade Runners (B)
Neilo
TGE
Ghostwes
MarshallOneill
Vilgan
Noctilucus

Celestial Crusaders (C)
Playjeff45
Mumblefratz
The Butterfly
Firebender
Silverbeacher

The Domination of Death (D)
Brezelius
Mottikhan
Shadow Worrior
Elwood011
Kzinti

And now round 3, and Firebender this should make you happy.

Each team is required to submit a victory in each of the 4 different conditions. Your team captain will assign each player a victory condition to complete.

3 opponents on a Medium map.

Habitable Planets - common
Planets - abundant
Stars - rare
Anomolies - abundant
Asteroids - rare (DA)
Tech Rate - normal
Density - Lose clusters

Random minors
All victory conditions enabled
Allow Surrenders
Tech trading on
Super abilities off
Blind exploration off
Mega Events enabled

For team B, which has 5 players, the captain should assign his 4 team mates 4 different victorys and then play a game attempting a victory condition of his own choosing. Now we never really discussed what happens next but my proposal is that the two games that are the same, the captains choice and one of his players, these games could be combined and averaged to give us 1 game instead of two. Provided they are both victories. This is not in concrete but a suggestion.

The other way we could go is to leave it up to the team in question to decide which game to sumbit.

Either way have fun with round 3 guys and i hope these new rule changes work out well for us.

Good luck,

The Commissioner.

I guess Scotch or Grand Marnier.

Actually I have been known to drink a gin & tonic on occasion but in all reality I prefer a pedestrian budweiser or two (lite of course got to watch that waistline).

Good Score Dystopic, But its not enough

heh thanks. it was just sort of a "practice game" when i started it. i think i can do better before the round ends.

Ha, another somewhat drinker. Exxxcccellent...

make that two. whiskey shots, anyone? you know, at some point a while ago i started an OT thread called the drinker's dive, though it's been rather dead for some time.

also, i'm just curious over the whole 1.7 Beta testers out there. Don't get me wrong, i think the changes are awesome and needed, and I really hope they work out, just that its still has its bugs (obviously, from the failure to post issues) and I personally, am gonna wait before I install it. With that said, most of the MVL players are some of the most involved GCII individuals out there, so I guess it shouldn't be a surprise that they DLed the 1.7 right away

I actually downloaded it due to 1.6 being nearly unplayable on my system. 1.7 has been a big help and it plays almost as good as DL now for me. I got beta 2 and trying it for my league game hoping it will post ok. If not I can run one through on DL in plenty of time to submit.

I assume by this you mean the perfomance issues are improved? If so that's good news.

I don't think anyone really needs to be too worried about this. As I mentioned we do have the precedent of accepting a screenshot in cases exactly like this. Certainly folks are free to improve their score or game speed or whatever but if anyone is happy with the results of any game that doesn't happen to post they shouldn't feel obligated to play another game. Just post a screen shot and that will be perfectly acceptable.

Yes quite so.  . I'm running it on the top gfx setting(best I think) and not a hint of slowdown so far. Of course it is the League game with sparse settings, but I can tell a definate improvement even now.

btw: Mumble I know you hadn't played DA yet, and I think the preset graphics settings are new to DA. It has I think four levels from poor to best. Saves some clicking, but if you prefer you can still fiddle with each individual option.

okay... i got the error 16 as well. i was going to take a screen shot but... where do i get to a screen that'll show both my score and my game settings? (i assume you wouldn't just take my word that the game settings matched those specified for this round).

I'm not sure what kind of screenshot will verify settings but in fact yes we will take your word for that.

Actually the only information that we get from the MV post is score, game years, galaxy size and victory type. Settings and number of opponents are all pretty much on the honor system anyway. So anything that gives the equivilent information is fine.

Certainly the screen that shows the score and the victory condition and hopefully something that shows game years. A zoomed out screenshot of the main screen before victory verifies galaxy size, but no need to get too carried away. If you can get most of this on one or two screenshots that's plenty.

Note that reported game years on the MV is one minus true game years. For DL Dec 2225 counts as year 0, Dec 2226 counts as year 1, etc. for DA it starts in 2226 IIRC so any game date will give us game years.

Hey there is a betta beta out there now. Carielf says (claims?) it is possible to post with Beta2.
For those that have tried to submit a game with beta one, try to resubmit after upgrading to beta two. No guarantees, but hopefully it works.
Resubmitting doesn't work. I'll wait and see if the next beta fixes this or if I need to start a new game.

hmm well then, i'll post a screen or two after i 1) get coffee in my system, 2) attemp to submit again now that i've updated to beta 2 and 3) take the actual screen shoots (a zoom out screen on the last turn of my EndSaveGame.sav and then a shot of the vicotry screen, yes?).

you know, this forum makes me feel very organic, everyone else having so many metals and whatnot. but not i'll have something to show for myself, at least.

thanks again for your help mumble.

i'm also still getting the error 16, perhaps it'll work with an entirely new save though. anyhow here are the screens.

okay... photobucket is resizing the images. the score is 18,200, and the endsavegame date is 8 NOV 2228. i can crop out those pieces of the images in order to keep the fullsize, if you'd like.

Upgraded to the new beta2 last night. Still couldn't submit my 2 games that were started with beta1, however I played a quick tech victory started with beta2 and it submitted just fine.

Not really essential, like I said we really have to operate on the honor system in any case. In this case perhaps we need to lean on it a little bit more than usual but I have no issue and expect that everyone will be happy to accept your word on it. There's certainly nothing out of the ordinary about the score. Now if you claimed a score of 182,000 then it might be different.

One point is that you failed to mention your victory type which is a critical piece of information. Actually you should mention whether it's DL or DA because the game year is different in each case however since you played the Krynn it's clear that it's DA which IIRC means that games start in 2226 and therefore 2227 is a 1 year game and 2228 is a 2 year game. Can another DA player validate my reasoning on game speed here?

Actually 18.2K for a 2 year win is an excellent score pretty much regardless of victory type and will probably be in the running for some serious bonus points.

Actually since this is a relatively strong game perhaps a few more shots with one that includes victory type and number of opponents. There is a screen in the final sequence that lists the score breakdowns per each player. I'm not sure where victory type is listed but one of the final screens should list it.

Also you might want to try Imageshack and use the direct link to image option for the clearest picture. The forum software does resize as well although once you click on it you get back the original size that anyone could download to their machine and zoom into if they're really that interested.

well i'm totally new to MV in general, so i can't comment on the way it counts. but it does start in 2226, so based on the way you describe year-counting, i think that would be correct.

seriously? i mean, i never figured i was novice, but i also didn't think i'd be "in the running for some serious bonus points." cool!

hmm for some reason i thought that second victory screen mentioned that it was a conquest victory, but perhaps i was acting too hastily (i also remember looking through all the final screens and not finding all the info i was looking for). but one of the tabs on the civ manager should show that there are zero opponents left, as well as the various victory conditions being enabled.

the new game log should also be able to verify the number of players from the beginning (by way of listing how many of them i destroy), yes? i'll get to it in a bit - right now i have a new episode of Avatar to watch

Imageshack

yeah, if figured it was time for another one of these.

okay, after the server stalled out half a dozen times, i've uploaded 4 screen shots, including full-quality versions of the two above. i'm going to post them as links so as not to muck up the forum with excessive images.

note: you may want to right-click and open in a new window or tab

events tab from the civ manager, scrolled to the beginning of the game and cropped
victory tab from the civ manager
galaxy map, on max zoom (same as above)
victory confirmation screen (same as above)

Very nice job, both with the links and the game. That's clearly an 18,200 point 2 year military victory, which AFAIK is top's in both speed and score at the moment. Of course I also think it's the first military victory submitted but even if it does get surpassed it's a good game nonetheless. Even if it misses out on individual bonuses it's a great contribution to the team bonuses.

I suspect that everyone will be anxious to find out which team you'll be on. However, we do have to wait for Neilo to assign you to one. Also it's clear we'll need to reorganize into 5 teams once this round is over but expanding the league is a good thing. In any case welcome to the league.

Hi guys. Sorry i am awol at the moment but RL has it's moments. My work schedule is only going to get worse for two more weeks and then should start to wind down and my net should be on at home around the 5th of October, so i should be fine to drop a game in for this round. Until then though i will still be a lost soul in these parts and hope everyone understands.

Welcome to the league Dystopic, sorry i did not get to you sooner but i have had little time to get on the net as of late. We will have a team E for round 4, cool. For this round we will have 1 team of 6 and the rest with 5. How this will affect scoring im not sure and will let you guys debate which is the best way to go and i will be happy to go with the majority on the issue.

As for Dystopic, the random generator says.........

team A...The A-Team.

Again welcome to the league mate and i hope you enjoy yourself.

Wow big P.S here..

After spending a bit more time reading i now see we have another player interested too.

My apologies for missing your posts Noctilucus, i will submit myself to my fellow Tyranny of Evil members for our standard 40 lashings...

It seems you have not committed yet, if IIRC, and by all means take your time, but please don't let any low scores you get sway your decision to not play. I often am in the lower bracket of scorers and have a blast playing these games simply because of the challenges they provide from my normal game type.

Should you decide to join i will go ahead and place you in a team for this round, i may not get time to do it later, but feel under no obligation to fulfill any requirements. It is just a time saver for me....

The random generator has spoken.....the winner is....The Blade Runners..Team B

In any case, welcome to the league and i hope you enjoy the games as much as the rest of us do...

I will try and check back in tomorrow guys but for the next two weeks i will be lost again...sorry.

The Commish.

no worries whatsoever! i understand completely. my home net access was down for the last week, and i've been way too busy at work to do much on these forums for the past week. thanks for the welcome!

A-Team, hello! should i expect a private message regarding Core passwords and such?

I just checked out your status at the Core and it said "validating" I don't think this restricts you from posting or sending or receiving PM's but just in case it does I left a note to the admins to take care of it. If you have any issue let me know.

The team A captain is DethAdder and I sent him a request to PM you the Team A private forum password.

Neilo seems a bit preoccupied. He probably missed the various posts regarding scoring. As I mentioned previously, this really doesn't complicate matters at all and I feel we will have no real issue scoring this round based on what has pretty much been agreed to even though it may be scattered across multiple threads. In any case I will pay particular attention to the scoring this round and will ensure that it runs smoothly.
Welcome Dystopic I have PM'd you through these forums, since it wouldn't let me at the Core(probably the validating thing). Great game by the way, we can use the bonus points and that game is a prime candidate for some   .

In any case I will pay particular attention to the scoring this round and will ensure that it runs smoothly.

I'm glad someone is keeping up with all this   . I haven't been saying much, because it is hard enough to keep up with this in one thread, much less across several. I have been trying though and would have barked if I saw something being passed that I disagreed with. As long as it's fair, easy to understand and fun.

Thanks, I'll gladly join! In the meantime I'm already in touch with Team B

And already a question: when's the submission deadline? I've been through this topic several times already but apparently I'm overlooking it...

Actually it's pretty tough to keep track of all these things that's why Neilo should edit this stuff into the OP of the thread, however in his defense he has seemed rather busy of late. In any case I gave my best guess based on previous rounds in my reply #98 of this thread which I've quoted below.

Hmm, when does this round close anyway? I don't see it in the top post...

You're right, however the OP did indicate when the round started.

By convention (like a precedent only a slightly weaker) we've ended these in one month so this should end on midnight of October 17th (Note that midnight of the 18th is technically a month and a day). So any metaverse submission date of Oct 17 or earlier is valid. Of course you also have to post what game you're submitting in this thread for it to count.

Incredible game, dystopic!

A 2 year mil victory is a great accomplishment! You're right up there with the top players.

I hope the MV posting issue gets resolved soon. You'll be climbing the ladder pretty quickly when that's done.
