Beta 1.2 bugs

Beta 1.2 bugs

First bug is that in the mod, the leader has been changed. This only works during race select, and then reverts to Alan Bradley's picture. Also, instead of the planet intended names for Earth, the Sun is now Earth, Earth is now Earth, and Earth 2 is mars, etc.

Other than that, the log rules, as does the new UI. EDIT: Ok, partly my stupidity here. I forgot to wipe customrace0 files, and it seemed to screw it up. You need to delete any terran race files or the mod won't work, and just calls everything "Earth"

>>> ATTENTION CodeCritter AND BoogieBac <<<

I have sent an email to [email protected] with all the files necessary to replicate the ship jewelry bug! The email is from "[email protected]" and has a subject heading of ">>Ship Jewelry Bug<< In response to CodeCritter's request for files to reproduce this bug!".

2. While I could not find any totally horribly bugs in the buildup of AI-planets (like 10 Entertainments on 1 planet, as in 1.11) there seems to be an issue regarding the homeworlds. While the AI developes any other planet in a way, I can agree with, they just ceased building on their homeworld when only half of it was filled. It is not that they would not have been to slow about building and not come any further, the build que is empty. This was case with all home-planets I checked: Yor, Arceans, Thalans and Drath. I haven't seen that on any other planet but the homeworlds. This will hinder the AI especially on smaller maps with less planets and more opponents

Wanted to add, that for some reason the Terrans and the Drengin did not suffer under this. Their homeworlds were properly filled with buildings.

I just clicked on the Colonies-Tab from the Governor-Menu and gone was the game. No error, no warning, just gone.

PirateRob (or anyone who has experienced the ship upgrade and losing jewelry problem)

I am having difficulty reproducing the problem. I've created several designs in different ship styles in version 1.11 and tried them in new and saved games(saved in 1.11) in version 1.2 beta 1.

Some additional observations. I noticed that all my ship designs are now saving into the Metaverse/ships folder instead of the usual one. (I am not playing a metaverse game, just a normal one)

The ships I am attempting to upgrade are in the normal ships folder... when I save them afterwards, they show up in the metaverse/ships folder. Perhaps the lost jewelry problem is related? Is it looking for data in the wrong directory when I attempt an upgrade?

I have deleted all my old ship designs and redesigned them in version 1.2... and the problem has not re-surfaced for me yet. I will see if I can get it to happen again this weekend. (if it has not been solved prior to then)

Ok.. More information on the lost jewelry problem... and a possible work around for those having the problem.

Here is how I was able to reproduce the problem.
1) Create a ship from scratch and save it. The ship files appear in the "My Games\GalCiv2\Metaverse\ships" directory. (Note that this is a NORMAL, ie Non-Metavers game)
2) Exit the game
3) Move the ship files (The S3_* file and the *.xml file) from "My Games\GalCiv2\Metaverse\ships" to "My Games\GalCiv2\ships" directory.
4) Load the game. The ship you just created will still show up in the list of user ships. Now, if you upgrade it, it does all sorts of weirdness with the parts.

How to work around this problem if you have lots of already defined ships you dont want to lose.
Simple!
1) Move all your ship files from "My Games\GalCiv2\ships" to "My Games\GalCiv2\Metaverse\ships" and they will upgrade properly. (at least this worked for the limited testing I did)

I get the "string not found" message in the Settings menu for the "mods" folder and the buttons in the folder selection dialog, as well as for the Planet Classes. I haven't checked anywhere else so far.

I'm using the German version of the game. I don't have mods installed.

Here's one I haven't seen before.

1.2 Beta 1, using the mod

A Drengin fleet picked off a lone ship, and one ship of the Drengin fleet suffered minor damage. It looks like some ships in the fleet then decided to upgrade. When it was my turn, the damaged Drengin ship had negative hitpoints.

(It was, incidentally, a rather bad time to upgrade, as you can see.)

Did anyone from SD get the email i sent? Look up a few posts

I've also noticed the New Game > Load Game > all ship jewelry dissapears upon upgrade bug, in case you guys were interested.

EDIT:
I "Fixed/Hacked" my exe file by changeing the ship folder to "My Documents\My Games\GalCiv2\ships" instead of "My Documents\My Games\GalCiv2\Metaverse\ships" and I dont get the no jewlery problem anymore (so far anyway) and my ships now save to "GalCiv2\ships" instead of "GalCiv2\Metaverse\ships"

Here's a small thing I've noticed with the beta.

First I tell a ship to travel to a distant location, and the autopilot system places a notation at the destination saying how many weeks it will take to arrive. On my next turn, I change my mind and tell the ship to go somewhere else. The small notation at the original destination remains forever. Well, I'm not sure if it is still there after save and reload. I have been able to reproduce this one many times.

Not sure if this is a bug but here it is: I just started a new campaign on 'normal' difficulty with the beta installed (no mod). I just completed the third or fourth mission and there's been lots of space battles. I think I've fought 30 or 40 Drenghi Defender class ships (maybe more). I have not seen ONE shot fired back at me so far. The combat summary shows shots fired, and in one particularly long engagement my 3 small ships fired more than 50 times before destroying the Defender, but the Defender never fired a single shot back. I even created a special ship with just one beam weapon and no armor as a test. It took forever for that ship to kill the Defender I sent it against, but I won. That's got to be a bug, right?

Yep that was a bug. Yesterday I fixed the battle code that was causing ships not to fire back.

Yes, I got your files and word doc. Thanks for sending them in.

Ok, my little experiment didnt fix it, though my ships do save to the correct folder, any added ship mods dont upgrade, I added the terran ship mod, and though the ships show correctly in the view window, when you hit update, it removes all the jewlery, but any ship I make works, hmm.. I'll keep looking to see if I can figure it out (to help out SD )

Found the reason for this and fixed it

"Sound the fanfare!"

Althought I should let you know that it was an 89 to 1 kill ratio today. Perhaps we should start working on the ground pounders next for the same reason as the fleet.

I copied all of my ship designs from the regual ships folder to the metaverse folder and now I can upgrade them without losing the jewlery. It seems the bug is that the games all want to load as Metaverse games even if they were just a normal sand box game, and not a started Metaverse one.

Should be an easy bug to fix for the designers now that it can be recreated and diagnosed.

Thanks for fixing the bug. I guess I'll have to actually research ship tech and upgrade armor now. lol

CodeCritter,

I just wanted to follow up regarding the bug Suralle reported where some ships don't fire in the second round. I spotted a problem with target selection that seems to be related to this and wanted to make sure your fix deals with this problem.

I had a fleet with 5 cruisers attack a Drengin planet with an Orbital fleet manager. The defending fleet was a Cruiser, 2 Defenders and a troop transport. In the first round all my cruisers fired, destroying one Defender and damaging the second. All my ships survived the first round of return fire. In the second round my first ship killed the second Drengin Defender, then a second ship from my fleet fired on and killed the transport. The other 3 ships didn't fire in the second round. In the third round all 5 ships fired on the Drengin Cruiser.

I'm not sure if my ships should have fired on the Cruiser before the Defenders, but certainly they shouldn't have fired on the transport before the Cruiser.

Lamplighter,
That problem sounds like it is the same problem I fixed. It did have to do with the order of ships after a ship is destroyed, which looks like what happened at the end of the first round (a defender died).

Do the defenders have weapons? In the campaign the Drengin keeps buying defenders with no weapons. It even puts armor on them, which would make them harder to kill, but no weapons. Interestingly, if you lose the first mission you get about the same scenario with the Yor, but the Yor AI does not do this. It builds one or two 0-power defenders and then builds some 7-power ones.

I tried that but found 1 listings of Metaverse\ships and changed both. That broke the *.exe file so I copied the backup in place. Which one did you fix?

Another item having to do with the new "ships firing at the same time" change. I have noticed on several occasions where the enemy ship seems to get an "extra" last shot. By watching and counting the shots it should be my ship shoots and then the enemy ship shoots, THEN ships should blow up. I have seen on several occasions where my ship shoots the enemy ship shoots, and then shoots again before blowing up. Note my ship only shot 1 time. The enemy ship shot 2 separate times AFTER my shot.

Also how is it that some ships have multiple beam shots? I usually have 2 or 3 separate weapons of the same type on my ships but only see one shot.

I found 2 instances of Metaverse\ships and made them both \ships and my exe worked fine and saves to correct folder, but when I added the terran mod, it showed the correctly built ships, but clicking upgrade still removed everything (but everything else upgrades fine) just added mods, not sure if there still compadible or if its still a error in the exe

Im still looking for the problem.

Hi guys, I don't have many problems with the game, so the crash to desktop I just had was surprising. I was playing a campaign game, designing a new ship. I accidentally picked a name that was already in use, so the game asked me if i wanted to replace the existing design (and reccomended against using the same name). So, I chose "yes" to replace the existing design and it CTD'd. I'm saving a copy of my current log file/savegame, and I'll post/e-mail on request.
