#3 on Game Rankings today

http://www.gamerankings.com/htmlpages2/925349.asp

I visited Game Rankings today to see what was new and to my shock, Galactic Civilizations was #3 in the most popular games.

But..But..PC games are supposed to be dying right? Isn't that why it's hard to get shelf space? People don't play PC games? Certain promises were made.

And turn based strategy? Nobody plays turn based strategy. What's up with that? What are you people doing? Didn't you get the memo? Quit playing the game and get back to whatever it is you're supposed to be doing.

With the success of Civ IV and other games coming out this year, maybe publishers will really start to notice that A) The PC game market isn't so dead after all and B) There's a pretty good market for turn based strategy.

Incidentally, the other PC game on the list is also a strategy game.

I love this game.I am a multi console and pc gamer. This game, right now, is my favorite on any system.I love the support this company gives.Others have alot to learn from Stardock.

It's not going to the Indies yet. EA games remember has the Sims which can kill any franchise right now. 58 million copies sold. Stardock you are going to have to hire alot more employees before EA games take you seriously.

Ahhhh... The sweet smell of success... And you guys should actually get paid for this one

Unfortunatly my sister supports the EA Imperialists with a passion by buying every game with The Sims title slapped on to front of it. I suppose soon she will need to be.... removed.

Thank you Brad!

As another 30 year old gamer whos fav game of all time is still Star Con 2, I am very tough to please... but Gal Civ 2 is a work of art. Thats right, its art. Your AI is a masterpiece... Thankyou from the bottom of my gaming heart.

Word of mouth isnt good enough for this game. I am buying a several MORE copies to GIVE to my friends as early, um, well..., REALLY early x-mas/b-day gifts. And just for you, I'll go buy em at retail when it shows up while I enjoy my DL'd copy right now.

THANK YOU!!!!

EA games doesn't suck. They are the industries leader in computer games (PUBLISHING). At least they release more patches than Activision.

Michigan programmers represent!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Depends. Some EA games suck, but that's the fault of developers, not the publisher. The publisher is just guilty of being huge

Strategy games are wonderful on PCs and terrible on consoles. Can you imagine trying to play GalCiv II with a joystick?

And SunofVich nailed it in his comment above: Most gaming companies these days push out decent games with so many bugs in them that they are unplayable so they can meet the holiday rush. You guys, on the other hand, have released one of the most polished games I've seen in years. Seriously, this is amazing.

(I just hope I can find recent video drivers for my laptop so I can play it more!)

Great to see it is so popular. Hope that continues as it would be great for you guys, and it could help reinvigorate PC gaming and TBS as well.

I'd like to point out that it is currently at the top of the most popular column at gamerankings.

Woha. That's amazing.  How do they decide the rankings?

Sweet news, and well deserved. I can't stop playing. I haven't been this absorbed in a game in a long time. Even Civ 4 (which is a great game) didn't generate the "one more turn" itch as strong as Gal Civ II has.

It's number 1 right now on the charts, just thought I'd let anyone know.

Heh, I was just on my way back to post that! Rock on!

Outstanding! Love the game, really happy to see the success of small developers.

On the issue of PC games dying, it's a shame many don't point out the fact that the PC has genres of games that console never will. Strategy titles most of all. Or that the PC decline has mirrored the drawback of shelf space for titles (and doesn't show a lack of consumers).

Or most importantly, that the PC is the *only* format with a guaranteed life. Think of the Dreamcast, Atari Jaguar, or the plethora of failed handhelds and other console systems. Console systems rely on their system selling and being maintained. This can stop if business goes bad - and software stops afterward.

On the other hand, regardless of power, I doubt we'll see PC's being removed from the home or work anytime in the near the future. OS squabbles aside, it's the only real guaranteed platform to never die.

But back on topic - Congrats guys! I hope GCII breaks new barriers.

EA sucks because it is not JUST a publisher, but a developer as well. They literally control the developers working for them, and they've not had a decent game since Tiberian Sun as far as I'm concerned.

So three cheers for Stardock and GalCiv2! Hip, hip, hurrah! Hip, hip, hurrah! Hip, hip, HURRAH!

Congratulations! No one seemed to notice that the only other pc game is also based in space. This is wierd. Congrats again.

I've been watching Gamespot for theirs.. I went and gave it a 10 as my own ranking. I'll be amazed if they don't give a good score too.

Well, now there are 3 reviews, a 90%, 95%, and a 93%, and the game's #1 in popularity on gamerankings.

Even more humorously Black is listed at the top when it's actually pretty average (at best)...GO GALCIV2! Yeah baby!

Heheheh. ^^ When people say "PC games are dead. Get over it." or "Console games are on their last legs!" I just sort of giggle. Neither of them are going anywhere for a very long time. ^_^ Good to see GalCiv2 whapping the "PC-games-are-dying" crowd in the face, though.
